Publication number: 20120200616Abstract: Crosstalk between right-eye images and left-eye images is suppressed, and high-quality 3D images are displayed. For this purpose, a driving method of a plasma display apparatus is provided. The plasma display apparatus has a plasma display panel and a driver circuit for driving the panel. In this driving method, right-eye images and left-eye images are alternately displayed on the panel by alternately repeating right-eye fields, each of which has a plurality of subfields and displays a right-eye image signal, and left-eye fields, each of which has a plurality of subfields and displays a left-eye image signal. Each subfield has an address period for performing an address operation and a sustain period for performing a sustain operation. In a discharge cell where gradation of a predetermined threshold or higher is displayed, the address operation is prohibited in the subfield disposed last in the field.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2010Publication date: August 9, 2012Inventors: Takahiko Origuchi, Yuya Shiozaki, Shigeo Kigo, Hidehiko Shoji, Mitsuhiro Ishizuka

Publication number: 20120200564Abstract: A high-quality stereoscopic image is displayed by suppressing crosstalk between an image for the right eye and an image for the left eye and stabilizing an address discharge. For this purpose, in the method for driving the plasma display apparatus, an image for the right eye and an image for the left eye are alternately displayed on the plasma display panel by alternately repeating a field for the right eye and a field for the left eye. In each of the field for the right eye and the field for the left eye, the subfield having the smallest luminance weight is placed first, the subfield having the largest luminance weight is placed next, and the other subfields are placed thereafter so as to have luminance weights sequentially decreasing.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2010Publication date: August 9, 2012Inventors: Takahiko Origuchi, Yuya Shiozaki, Shigeo Kigo, Hidehiko Shoji, Mitsuhiro Ishizuka

Publication number: 20090231237Abstract: A method for driving a plasma display panel (PDP) that can increase dark contrast without causing erroneous discharges is provided. A unit display period is divided into a plurality of subfields. A reset process and a sustain process are performed in one of the subfields. In the reset process, a reset pulse is applied to row electrodes of the PDP to initialize each discharge cell to an emission mode (or non-emission mode). In the sustain process, a sustain discharge is repeatedly generated a number of times, corresponding to the number of times a sustain pulse is to be applied, in those discharge cells that are in the emission mode. In this case, a peak potential of the reset pulse is changed based on the number of those discharge cells that are maintained in the non-emission mode during the unit display period and the number of times the sustain pulse is to be applied in the sustain process in this subfield.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2008Publication date: September 17, 2009Applicant: PIONEER CORPORATIONInventors: Yuya SHIOZAKI, Hitoshi Fujimura, Kazuo Yahagi, Tsutomu Tokunaga

Publication number: 20090219226Abstract: It is an object to provide a driving method of a plasma display panel, whereby a dark contrast can be improved while suppressing an erroneous discharge. In a resetting step in a first unit display period, while a first reset pulse having a predetermined peak electric potential is applied to one of first row electrodes of row electrode pairs formed in the PDP, a second reset pulse having a peak electric potential smaller than that of the first reset pulse is applied to the other of the first row electrodes. In the resetting step in a second unit display period subsequent to the first unit display period, a second reset pulse is applied to each of the one and the other of the first row electrodes.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2008Publication date: September 3, 2009Applicant: PIONEER CORPORATIONInventors: Kazuo Yahagi, Mitsuhiro Ishizuka, Yuya Shiozaki, Shunsuke Itakura, Kazuhiro Kanai, Hajime Homma, Yoshichika Sato, Hikaru Takahashi

Publication number: 20080278415Abstract: A method for driving a plasma display panel which is capable of improving contrast is provided. A plasma display apparatus which is capable of improving dark contrast and suppressing a degradation in image quality immediately after power-on is also provided. In the PDP, the peak potentials of drive pulses to be applied in order to drive display cells which have a phosphor layer containing a phosphor material and a secondary electron emitting material, are set as follows. The peak potential of a reset pulse, to be applied to each of the row electrodes in the first subfield within each unit display period, is set to be lower than the peak potential of a sustain pulse, to be applied to each of the row electrodes in every subfield to produce sustain discharge only in display cells that are in the lighting mode.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 9, 2008Publication date: November 13, 2008Applicant: Pioneer CorporationInventors: Shunsuke ITAKURA, Tsutomu Tokunaga, Tatsuya Sugimoto, Yoshichika Sato, Yuya Shiozaki

Patent number: 7176856Abstract: The present invention is a display device and display panel drive method that allow a more rapid select operation to be stably implemented by increasing the discharge probability of selective discharge. The display device comprises an address part that sequentially applies a positive scan pulse to a first row electrode of each of the display panel row electrode pairs in the address cycle while sequentially applying a pixel data pulse corresponding to the pixel data at the same timing as the scan pulse to each of the display panel column electrodes one display line at a time so that the column electrode side constitutes a cathode, such that an address discharge is selectively produced in the second discharge cell; and a sustain part that applies a sustain pulse to each of the row electrodes constituting the row electrode pairs in the sustain cycle, and the sustain part applies the ultimate sustain pulse of the sustain pulses applied in the address cycle to the first row electrode with a negative polarity.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 2003Date of Patent: February 13, 2007Assignee: Pioneer CorporationInventors: Kazuo Yahagi, Tsutomu Tokunaga, Yuya Shiozaki, Shigeru Iwaoka
