  • Patent number: 7708520
Abstract: A gas turbine engine is provided with turbine sealing structures including knife edge seals which extend at an angle relative to an axial center line of the engine. Each knife edge seal is associated with a concave pocket defined between a radially inner surface and a spaced radially outer surface. The concave pockets and their associated knife edge seals create a pair of vortices which prevent leakage into radially inner portions of the turbine section.

  • Patent number: 7454630
Abstract: An invention is provided for limiting power during an unconfigured state of a USB device. The invention includes a first voltage regulator, which supplies a first voltage, in electrical communication with internal device logic of a USB device. A second voltage regulator is also included that supplies a second voltage that is higher than the first voltage. In addition, a current limiting resistor is included. The current limiting resistor is coupled to an output of the second voltage regulator and is further in electrical communication with the internal device logic of the USB device. The current limiting resistor is configured to allow a maximum current of 100 mA from being provided to the internal device logic of a USB device from the second voltage regulator.

  • Publication number: 20080205513
Abstract: The invention relates to video image compression technologies, and discloses a method and system for upsampling a spatial scalable coded video image so that during upsampling computation complexity may be reduced while coding performance is substantially unchanged. In the invention, the principle that human eyes are far less sensitive to a chrominance components than to a luminance components is utilized, and a simpler filter is adopted for the chrominance components than that for the luminance components during upsampling in I_BLINTRA_Base inter-layer prediction or residual samples image inter-layer prediction, thereby reducing effectively calculation complexity while coding performance is substantially unchanged.

  • Publication number: 20070073679
Abstract: An exemplary method for generating a BOM file is disclosed. The method includes the steps of: extracting data on components of a circuit design diagram of a motherboard, and storing the data in an spreadsheet as a non-standardized original BOM file; determining whether the data meet requirements corresponding to designing standards of the motherboard by checking the data of the non-standardized original BOM file; classifying the data into lists according to predefined manufacturing procedures; and automatically generating a standardized BOM file according to the corresponding lists. A related system is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7116864
Abstract: We introduce a new all-optical mechanism that can compress the bandwidth of light pulses to absolute zero, and bring them to a complete stop. The mechanism can be realized in a system consisting of a waveguide side-coupled to tunable resonators, which generates a photonic band structure that represents a classical analogue of the Electromagnetically Induced Transparency. The same system can also achieve a time-reversal operation. We demonstrate the operation of such a system by finite-difference time-domain simulations of an implementation in photonic crystals.

  • Publication number: 20060124348
Abstract: A printed circuit board for preventing electrostatic discharge damage includes several electronic components thereon. The printed circuit board defines several through holes therein, and includes a signal layer and a ground layer. The signal layer includes a central area and an edge area. The edge area encircles the central area and is separate from the central area. The electronic components are installed on the central area. An insulated area is formed between the central area and the edge area. In a typical application of the printed circuit board, screws are inserted into the through holes and engaged with a panel of a computer enclosure, thereby mounting the printed circuit board to the panel. Thus the edge area is absolutely grounded via the through holes. The electronic components are relatively grounded by connection to the ground layer.

  • Patent number: 7041591
Abstract: A method for fabricating a semiconductor package substrate having a plated metal layer on a conductive pad is proposed. First of all, a first resist layer is formed on a semiconductor package substrate having a plurality of traces and conductive pads on a surface thereof. The first resist layer is provided with at least an opening, such that the opening is able to contact the adjacent trace. Subsequently, a conductive film is formed in the opening, such that the conductive film can electrically connect the adjacent trace and conductive pad. After removing the first resist layer, a second resist layer having a plurality of openings is formed on the surface of the substrate to expose the conductive pad. Afterwards, an electroplating process is performed on the substrate, so that a metal layer is formed on an exposed surface of the conductive pad. The second resist layer and the conductive film are then removed from the substrate.

  • Publication number: 20030197936
Abstract: We describe a novel approach for tunable polarization mode dispersion (PMD) compensation using multi-layered thin-film dielectric reflectors. This design can compensate for both the first-order PMD and the second-order PMD in ultrahigh speed optical fiber communication systems. Built-in cavity layers constitute optical resonators localizing electromagnetic energy at a specific frequency in the cavity region and therefore generating dispersive reflection. The two principal states of polarization in this system, TE and TM modes, demonstrate different dispersion responses for oblique incidences, which can be readily tuned to offset the PMD accumulated in fiber links. Various schemes of dispersion generation could be designed using single-cavity cascading or with coupled multiple-cavity resonator structures.
