Publication number: 20130329561Abstract: Methods and devices for determining an available load in a cell of a cellular radio system are provided where the determination of the available load is made in response to an estimated inter cell interference load. An estimated inter cell interference is determined. The inter cell interference change events are monitored by determining when a User Equipment changes serving cell or when the User Equipment adds or removes a cell to the active set of the User Equipment. The determined inter cell interference is adjusted by an estimated load caused by the User Equipment causing an inter cell interference change event, and the available load is determined in response to the adjusted inter cell interference. The method can continuously update inter cell interference. Moreover, the update can be made fast and thereby allow an improved estimation of the available cell load.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 25, 2011Publication date: December 12, 2013Applicant: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Zhang Zhang, Mats Blomgren

Patent number: 8391802Abstract: The invention relates to the control and adaptation of transmit parameters for wireless communication between a transmitter (TX) and at least one receiver (RX) to provide joint power and link adaptation. A basic idea of the invention is to collectively determine the transmit duration (T) and transmit power (P) of the transmitter based on minimization of a given objective function representative of total consumed energy, on both the transmitting side and the receiving side, with respect to transmit duration and/or transmit power. In effect, this means that link transmit parameters are determined based on the energy consumption on both the transmitting side and the receiving side. In addition, both transmit power and transmit duration are varied, while minimizing overall consumed energy.Type: GrantFiled: February 8, 2006Date of Patent: March 5, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Peter Larsson, Zhang Zhang

Patent number: 8385969Abstract: In a cellular radio system Transmission Power Control (TPC) power offset is set so that it is adjusted for each transmitting radio base station based on available relevant measurements that reflect the quality of the downlink channel carrying the uplink TPC command whereby an improved performance is obtained. The TPC power offset can for example be based on an estimated uplink Dedicated Physical Control CHannel (DPCCH) SINR, the number of TPC “up” and the number of TPC “down” sent by a radio base station and aggregated UE receiver power or UE transmit power over a number N slots. Also a mobile station used in a cellular radio system supporting soft handover may be adapted to apply TPC discarding thresholds based on the number and the quality of simultaneously received TPC commands.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2008Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Zhang Zhang, Ke Wang Helmersson, Rong Hu, Muhammad Kazmi, Bengt Lindoff

Patent number: 8295173Abstract: By introducing a novel parameter common to all links along the entire multihop route it is possible to more flexibly allocate, for each of a number of the links, a set of three interdependent link transmit parameters representative of link transmit energy, link transmit time or link transmit bandwidth or link code word consumption, and link transmit power. Basically, the common parameter is determined based on a given end-to-end (ETE) transmit parameter constraint for the entire multihop route. The idea is then to assign or allocate, for each considered link, the three interdependent link transmit parameters based on the common parameter and local link characteristics. In this way, all three link transmit parameters may (and generally will) be different between at least two links on the route when the links have different link characteristics, assuming that each link transmit parameter is also dependent on the local link characteristics.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 2005Date of Patent: October 23, 2012Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Peter Larsson, Zhang Zhang

Patent number: 8159954Abstract: The inventors have envisioned a multihop network scenario in which nodes are equipped with advanced multi-antenna arrangements, and recognized the advantage of exploring the presence of such advanced antenna arrangements in multihop network nodes for the specific purpose of determining link cost for routing in the network. Link cost is determined for a wireless link between a pair of nodes in the network based on multi-channel characteristics between the nodes, where at least one of the nodes is configured for operation with multiple antennas to provide for multiple channels. These multi-channel characteristics may for example be determined based on explicit channel matrix estimation and/or the number of transmit and receive antennas or other information on the antenna capabilities of the involved nodes. The determined link cost information may subsequently be used together with additional routing cost information for route determination, and packet forwarding.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2005Date of Patent: April 17, 2012Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Peter Larsson, Niklas Johansson, Rong Hu, Zhang Zhang
