Abstract: A phase shifter includes a first dielectric layer, a switch mounted to the first dielectric layer, a conductive layer mounted to the first dielectric layer, a second dielectric layer mounted to the conductive layer, a conducting pattern layer mounted to the second dielectric layer, and a plurality of vias. The switch is switchable between a first conducting position and a second conducting position. Each via is connected between a first or a second throw arm of the switch and a conductor of the conducting pattern layer. When an electromagnetic wave incident on the phase shifter is reflected, an electric polarization of the reflected electromagnetic wave is rotated by ±90 degrees compared to an electric polarization of the incident electromagnetic wave based on a conducting position of the switch. The phase shifter can be used as one-bit spatial phase shifter to provide either 0° or 180° phase shift over wide bandwidths.

Abstract: A hand-carry gravity-driven water filter with high throughput and water disinfection performance is formed. Membranes used for this water filter can be fabricated using electrospun method and non-solvent induced phase inversion method. A novel composite membrane structure (interwoven composite structure) was designed for further enhances water permeability and mechanical strength. The composite membrane can be composed of nanofibers with different diameter from the same polymer or different polymers. Membrane porosity and surface pore size can be controlled. Silver nanoparticles can be in-situ loaded on the surface of the membranes. The developed filter is effective for removal of a wide range of contaminants (e.g., pathogens, suspended solids and heavy metals). The purification process can be carried out under the drive of gravity (with an option for mechanically-enhanced filtration) without electricity.

The interface circuitry receives a request from a client device. The request requests the apparatus to perform a task of information processing and includes a timeout duration. The time duration indicates a maximum duration during which the apparatus is to send a result associated with performing the task to the client device. The processing circuitry determines an expiration time based on a present system time of the apparatus and the timeout duration. The expiration time indicates a final time for the apparatus to send the result associated with performing the task to the client device. The processing circuitry also performs the task of information processing requested by the client device based on the expiration time.

Abstract: The disclosed embodiments include methods, apparatuses, systems, and UAVs configured to an interactive and automatic initialization of the tracking systems. The disclosed embodiments observe an object of interest in a surrounding of the movable object and detect a feature of the object of interest, which acts as a trigger for automatically initializing the tracking system. As a result, the disclosed embodiments may provide efficiency and reliability to initializing a robotic system.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to systems, methods, and computer storage media for geographically organizing the storage of data and hosted services in a distributed computing environment. An allocation constraint is utilized to identify and select a geo-region in which an affinity group that is comprised of a hosted service and/or data is to be physically stored. Additionally, a geo-domain within the geo-region is identified for hosting the hosted service and/or data of the affinity group. A stamp, such as a storage stamp or a computation stamp, is identified on the geo-domain for storing the hosted service and/or the data. The hosted service is stored in an identified computation stamp and the data is stored in an identified storage stamp. In an additional exemplary embodiment, the identification of a geo-domain involves analyzing resource information related to potential geo-domains within a geo-region.
