    Abstract: A system for identifying redundant road lane detections in map data and subsequently updating the map data to remove the redundant road lane detections is provided. The system may be configured to determine, based on sensor data, a plurality of road lane detections associated with a road link represented by the map data. The system is further configured to determine a cluster for the road link based on a clustering criterion. The system is further configured to establish a plurality of road lane detection groups based on connectivity of the road lane detections in the cluster. The plurality of road lane detection groups is evaluated to identify one or more redundant road lane detections based on one or more of a parallel-detection criterion or a heading difference criterion. The identified redundant road lane detections are used to update the map data by a computer-implemented update process.

The system may determine, from vehicle sensor data, the plurality of linear feature detections associated with a link segment, where each of the plurality of linear feature detections is associated with a respective heading indicative of an orientation. The system further may determine, using map data, a map-based driving direction associated with the link segment. Furthermore, the system may compute a heading difference set associated with the plurality of linear feature detections based on the map-based driving direction, where a given heading difference of the set respectively comprises an angular difference between the map-based driving direction and a respective heading of one of the plurality of linear feature detections. Furthermore, the system may filter the plurality of linear feature detections based on the heading difference set, and one or more of a comparison criterion or a clustering criterion.

    Abstract: System and methods for separating the computation of map feature derivation from the traditional computing pipeline. One or more mapping variables for a sensitive location on a roadway are calculated ahead of time using mapping data derived from previously identified map feature data. When a real time request for processing near the sensitive location is received, the mapping system calculates one or more classification variables for the sensitive location using sensor data included in the request and the previously calculated mapping variables. The classification variables are input into a model configured to output a classification for one or more location features at the sensitive location. The classification is then provided in response to the request.

    Abstract: An approach is provided for aggregating an incident route based on high-resolution sampling. The approach involves receiving location data points representing a path traveled. The approach also involves generating an initial link set comprising a first predetermined number of traveled link options based on an initial location data point. The approach further involves determining a second predetermined number of probable matching road links of the geographic database for a next location data point. The approach further involves computing probabilities for respective pairs of the traveled link options and the probable matching road links. Each probability indicates a pair of a likelihood that a traveled route option and a probable matching road link are connected. The approach further involves aggregating the respective pairs to reduce a number of the respective pairs into the first or another predetermined number of traveled link options of a new link set based on the probabilities.
