    Abstract: The present patent application improves DARP by allowing multiple users on one time slot (MUROS). It comprises means and instructions for sharing signals on a single channel, comprising setting up a new connection, allocating a new time slot if there is an unused time slot on a channel frequency, selecting an used time slot for the new connection to share with an existing connection if there is not an unused time slot on the channel frequency, and selecting a different training sequence code for the new connection if the used time slot on the channel frequency has been selected for the new connection to share with an existing connection.

    Abstract: The present patent application comprises a transmitting method and apparatus 240. A signal source 241 provides an input signal to a low-pass filter 242 which filters the input signal to produce a filtered signal. The filter 242 is selectively operable in a first mode in which the input signal is filtered within a narrower bandwidth; and in a second mode in which the input signal is filtered within a broader bandwidth. The filtered signal is output to a modulator 243 which modulates the filtered signal to produce a modulated signal. The modulated signal is output to a transmitter 244 which transmits the modulated signal.

    Abstract: A smooth transition is effected between adjacent digital information bursts transmitted in different modulation formats by selecting a first sequence for a first digital symbol burst to be transmitted, which first sequence comprises a set of end symbols with a first particular symbol pattern. A second sequence for a second digital symbol burst is also selected for transmission after the first digital symbol burst, which second sequence comprises a set of start symbols with a second particular symbol pattern. The first digital symbol burst is modulated in a first modulation format and the second digital symbol burst is modulated in a second modulation format different than the first modulation format. Thereafter, the modulated first and second digital symbol bursts are transmitted.
