  • Publication number: 20140175975
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for controlling the cold spot in a high-intensity discharge lamp. In an embodiment, an elongated arc tube has an inner wall defining a discharge chamber that includes a metal halide dose. A first leg extends from the arc tube in a first direction and a second leg extends from the arc tube in a second direction that is opposite the first direction. The first electrode is disposed within the first leg such that no voids exist between the first electrode and an entire inner portion of the first leg. Likewise, a second electrode disposed within the second leg has no voids between it and an entire inner portion of the second leg. The arc tube also has a first annular bucket structure within the discharge chamber formed by a nub surrounding the first tip and an interior wall portion, and a second annular bucket structure within the discharge chamber formed by a nub surrounding the second tip and a second interior wall portion.

  • Patent number: 8553663
Abstract: A method is provided of enabling access for a terminal (12-1) to a remote network (60) via a mobile network (40). A first connectivity service function (30) is provided as part of the mobile network (40). A second connectivity service function (20) is provided as part of the remote network (60). A third connectivity service function (10) is provided associated with the terminal (12-1). The first connectivity service function (30) is adapted to cooperate in establishing a first layer 2 tunnel (25) between itself (30) and the second connectivity service function (20). The first connectivity service function (30) is also adapted to cooperate in establishing a second layer 2 tunnel (15) between itself (30) and the third connectivity service function (10). The terminal (12-1) thereby has layer 2 access into the remote network (60) through the first and second tunnels (25, 15) using the first, second and third connectivity service functions (30, 20, 10).

  • Patent number: 8358070
Abstract: A lamp includes a discharge vessel. Tungsten electrodes extend into the discharge vessel. An ionizable fill is sealed within the vessel. The fill includes a buffer gas and a halide component that includes a rare earth halide. A source of oxygen which includes a lanthanide oxide is present in the discharge vessel. The source of oxygen provides oxygen for a regenerative cycle which reduces blackening of the lamp walls by tungsten from the electrodes.

  • Publication number: 20120224477
Abstract: A method and system for reducing congestion and latency in a communication system by creating a pruned forwarding set for scalable tunneling applications. The communication system provides a communication link between a mobile communication device and a network, such as the Internet. The method entails using information included within a data packet to determine a corresponding tunnel peer address, which is then resolved onto a set of paths. Each path includes respective adjacency information. A determination of whether to prune each respective path is made by using the respective adjacency information. The pruned set of paths is used to identify available paths for the communication link. By pruning in this manner, the line card being used as the home slot for a given session may also be used as the egress slot, thereby reducing congestion and latency in the communication system.

  • Publication number: 20110173344
Abstract: A system, method and node of masquerading remote hosts at the remote end of the bottleneck link without breaking layer 2 transparency using a cache mechanism. A local edge node stores specified objects of the remote host. Upon request of an initiator host, the edge node sends the stored object to the initiator host without requiring the transfer of the object from the remote host. The present invention also provides for the election of a Local Master Browser (LMB). The method consists of electing one LMB for spreading information for each LAN segment, instead of having one such global node for the entire LAN. The present invention elects one local LMB for each LAN segment, rather than using one global LMB node.

  • Patent number: 6768433
Abstract: A method and system for decoding a biphase-mark input stream is disclosed. Aspects of the present invention include receiving an external biphase-mark input stream by a receiver module; recovering timing information from the input stream; decoding the input stream to generate decoded data and storing the decoded data in a data buffer; reading, by an audio out module, the decoded data from the data buffer at a rate determined by a programmable clock; using the timing information from the receiver module to calculate a sampling frequency of the input stream; and adjusting a frequency of the programmable clock to substantially match the sampling frequency so that the audio out module reads the decoded from the buffer at substantially the same rate that the receiver module inputs the decoded data into the data buffer.

  • Patent number: 6498429
Abstract: A mercury-free high pressure sodium vapor lamp is dosed with sodium, xenon and zinc as an elemental metal additive. The addition of the metal additive prevents an undesirable low-voltage operating mode of the sodium-xenon discharge associated with a mercury-free HPS lamp, which otherwise occurs when sodium is no longer available to participate in the arc discharge.

  • Patent number: 5767617
Abstract: An electrodeless fluorescent lamp comprises a discharge vessel (10) having a re-entrant portion (11) for housing a solenoid (12) for initiating a discharge in the vessel by means of an RF electromagnetic field. A primary amalgam (18) for releasing mercury vapor is placed at the tip of an exhaust tube (17) where the primary amalgam can be maintained at a suitable temperature for controlling the mercury vapor pressure. The primary amalgam does not provide rapid run-up of light output. To provide rapid run-up of light output a pied of indium (20,30) is placed on the re-entrant at a position where it is rapidly heated by the discharge. The indium may be coated with the layers of a coating including phosphor.
