Firearm accessory modification

Abstract

A firearm accessory modification to a removable or fixed scope mount of a firearm or a removable or fixed top cover of a firearm. The modification consists of strategically located and drilled holes through a removable or fixed scope mount or drilling holes through a mounting block attached to a removable or fixed top cover. Purpose of said drilled holes is to allow the use of conventional push-pin style brass-catchers, push-pin style flashlights, and/or lasers.

[0001] This application claims the benefit of Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 60/173,262, filed Dec. 28, 1999.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The present invention relates to a firearm accessory modification to a removable or fixed scope mount of a firearm or a removable or fixed top cover of a firearm. Particularly a firearm accessory modification comprising of strategically located and drilled holes through a conventional removable or fixed scope mount of a firearm or drilling holes through a mounting block attached to a conventional removable or fixed top cover of a firearm. The purpose of said drilled holes is to allow the use of conventional push-pin style brass-catchers, push-pin style flashlights, and/or lasers on a firearm with a removable or fixed scope mount or a removable or fixed top cover.

[0003] Conventional push-pin style brass-catchers and push-pin style flashlights are available for AR-15 and M-16 type rifles, but not for firearms with a removable or fixed scope mount or top cover. Many rifles can utilize either a removable or fixed scope mount or a removable or fixed top cover interchangeably. This invention allows the use of conventional push-pin style brass-catchers, push-pin style flashlights, and/or lasers to be rigidly mounted to a firearm with a removable or fixed scope mount or top cover.

[0004] Firearms eject empty cartridge cases during firing that are often lost or damaged as they land on the ground. Picking up scattered, dirty cases is a difficult task. Since cartridge cases comprise the majority of the cost of ammunition and can be used for reloading numerous times, it is desirable to collect all empty cartridge cases by using a conventional push-pin style brass-catcher affixed to the firearm. Occasionally, these firearms are used in low light conditions necessitating the use of a flashlight and/or laser. Having the ability to use a conventional push-pin style flashlight or laser attached to a firearm allows the operator the flexibility of using two hands to safely handle the firearm

OBJECTS AND ADVANTAGES OF THE INVENTION

[0005] Accordingly, several objects and advantages of my invention are:

[0006] (a) To provide a means of securing a conventional push-pin style brass-catcher, flashlight, or laser to a firearm with a conventional removable or fixed scope mount;

[0007] (b) To provide a means of securing a conventional push-pin style brass-catcher, flashlight, or laser to a firearm with a conventional removable or fixed top cover;

[0008] (c) To allow easy attachment and detachment of said conventional brass-catchers, flashlights, and/or lasers;

[0009] (d) To provide mounting holes to allow conventional push-pin style brass-catchers to lock securely in place to prevent falling off under the recoil of a firearm;

[0010] (e) To provide mounting holes to allow conventional push-pin style flashlights to lock securely in place to a firearm to allow a shooter to use both hands to hold and maneuver the firearm safely;

[0011] Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a consideration of the drawings and ensuing description.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0024] Accordingly, the object of the present invention is to provide a modification to a conventional removable or fixed scope mount or top cover to allow the use of conventional push-pin style brass-catchers, flashlights, and/or lasers.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0025] The first embodiment, shown in FIG. 1 and 2, strategically located mounting holes 24 are drilled through a conventional removable or fixed scope mount 16. A conventional push-pin style brass-catcher 12, conventional push-pin style flashlight 20, and/or laser is inserted through the mounting holes 24.

[0026] In its second embodiment, shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, strategically located mounting holes 24 are drilled through a metal mounting block 10 that is welded, brazed, or otherwise permanently attached to a conventional removable or fixed top cover 14. A conventional push-pin style brass-catcher 12, conventional push-pin style flashlight 20, and/or laser is inserted through mounting holes 24 of mounting block 10 on a conventional removable or fixed top cover 14 that is attached to a conventional firearm receiver 18.

[0027] In FIGS. 1 and 2, push-pins 22 of a conventional push-pin style brass-catcher 12, conventional push-pin style flashlight 20, and/or laser are inserted through mounting holes 24 located on the conventional removable or fixed scope mount 16. Said conventional push-pin style brass-catcher 12 or conventional push-pin style flashlight 20 can be easily detached by pulling push-pins 22 out of mounting holes 24.

[0028] In FIGS. 3 and 4, push-pins 22 of a conventional push-pin style brass-catcher 12, conventional push-pin style flashlight 20, and/or laser are inserted through mounting holes 24 of mounting block 10 on a conventional removable or fixed top cover 14 that is attached to a conventional firearm receiver 18. Said conventional push-pin style brass-catcher 12 or conventional push-pin style flashlight 20 can easily be detached by pulling push-pins 22 out of mounting holes 24.

Conclusion, Ramifications, and Scope

[0029] Accordingly, the reader will see that the present invention contains many novel features. The modification of a conventional removable or fixed scope mount or conventional removable or fixed top cover will allow the use of conventional push-pin style brass-catchers, flashlights, and/or lasers to be temporarily or permanently attached to a firearm Furthermore, the conventional removable or fixed scope mount or conventional removable or fixed top cover has the additional advantages in that;

[0030] A conventional push-pin style brass-catcher can be adapted to a conventional fixed or removable scope mount by the addition of drilled mounting holes;

[0031] A conventional push-pin style brass-catcher can be adapted to a conventional fixed or removable top cover by the addition of a mounting block with drilled mounting holes;

[0032] It provides a rigid mounting system that allows a conventional push-pin style brass-catcher, flashlight, and/or laser to be locked through the mounting holes in a conventional removable or fixed scope mount or top cover.

[0033] Although the description above contains many specificities, these should not be construed as limiting the scope of the invention but merely providing illustrations of some of the presently preferred embodiments of this invention. For example, there can be more or less holes drilled into mounting block attached on a removable or fixed top cover or more or less holes drilled into conventional removable or fixed scope mount for attachment of additional items such as lasers, optics, night vision or other firearm attachments. Thus the scope of the invention should be determined by the appended claims and their legal equivalents, rather than by the examples given.

Claims

1. A firearm accessory modification comprising:

strategically located and drilled holes through a conventional removable or fixed scope mount;

strategically located and drilled holes through a mounting block attached to a conventional removable or fixed top cover.

2. The firearm accessory modification of claim 1, wherein said strategically located and drilled holes intended for the purpose of allowing the use or attachment of conventional push-pin style brass-catchers, push-pin style flashlights, and/or lasers.
