Abstract

An undergarment for use in medical treatment environments as well as in the home by surgical patients and the elderly, consisting of a T-shirt that is cut down the middle of the chest area and is fastened back together by means of VELCRO-type strips. All other aspects of a conventional T-shirt remain the same. The garment will be useful to people who have received surgeries in the chest area, patients who are taking Dialysis, patients who require home care or doctors office care but do not want to completely disrobe for examination of the chest area.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0004] The invention relates to undergarments having specialized and necessary uses in the hospital, nursing homes, and other medical treatment settings. It is also useful to patients who have limited movement of their arms and are unable to raise their arms to put them into the arm holes of a conventional undershirt, but would like to wear an undershirt for warmth and other medical reasons.

[0005] Presently in hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities where medical and surgical treatments are practiced, patients are dressed in various types of normal undergarments and also loose-fitting gowns, robes, or long pajama-top type clothing.

[0006] The undergarments must be completely removed for many of the medical procedures which leaves the patient completely exposed in the chest area. Therefore, embarrassment and concern with body exposure and possible body exposure is a common feeling both on the part of the patient and those who are strangers to hospital environments and in contact with patients, for example, visitors.

[0007] This invention completely takes into regard all of the above problems and solves them. Although other inventions have been patented like U.S. Pat. Nos. 1,489,046 and 6,154,883, it is me belief that this invention, the E Z TEE, is a much more usable invention because of the ease in putting on and taking off and it should be at an affordable price to make it available to all patients and elderly persons who would require its use.

[0008] This undergarment allows the patient or elderly person to open the garment at the front, thus allowing nurses and other medical personnel the access to the chest area without having the patient completely undress. It also allows a patient or elderly person that has limited movement of his arms to be able to wear an undershirt when they have been used to wearing them all their life as well as the patient who would like to wear a little more in the hospital for added warmth and protection but is unable-to put on a normal undershirt.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0009] This invention relates to undergarments that can be used in medical treatment environments as well as at home by the patient. It enables a physician or other medical specialist access to the chest area of a patient without having the patient disrobe from the waist up.

[0010] An important aspect of the undergarment is that the front opens up to expose the chest area. This invention is flexible due to its method of construction and to the use of VELCRO-type material at its front seam, which permits selection of a firmly fastened seam, a partially detached seam, a partially opened seam, or opening or a fully detached and separated seam.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0014] One of the wonderful things about this invention is shown in FIG. 1. In FIG. 1, the E Z TEE is shown as it would normally be worn. The undergarment will be made of “cloth”, which means any flexible material, and is preferably of woven cloth but may be made of any other material suitable for underclothing. The undergarment is made so that it will be washable, allowing the patient to continue to wear it over and over again. In FIGS. 1 and 2, VELCRO-type strips are utilized to close the center seam.

[0015] In the E Z TEE, the front of the undergarment, down the center, is fastened together using VELCRO-type strips. All other aspects of a normal undershirt are the same. The shirt consists of two arm openings through which the wearers arms extend and a neck opening for the wearers neck. There are seams joining the sleeves to the body of the shirt and a ribbed neckline around the neck area.

[0016] The assembled garment may be worn by a patient in a hospital, nursing home, or other medical treatment setting, as well as at home.

[0017] Those skilled in the art of assembling undershirts would be able to modify the undergarment according to my specifications.

1. An undergarment for hospital, nursing, and home use consisting of an undergarment with the same looks as a conventional T-shirt except that the front divides down the middle using seam binding and VELCRO-type closure.
