Description

[0001] The present invention relates to desks in general, computer desks in particular and to combinations of such a desk and a seat.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] A computer desk is generally composed of a fixed desktop surface for receiving a display monitor, and a fixed or gliding shelf for receiving a computer keyboard.

[0003] Computer desks for the home are more compact in size and are generally placed in the living room, the office or the bedroom.

[0004] The home computer desk is a dedicated piece of furniture made specifically to host a computer system. In small rooms such as college dormitories, bedrooms, motor homes or hotel rooms, providing sufficient seating for everyone is sometimes very difficult.

[0005] Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a means by which a computer desk can be converted to a bench and vice versa without having to add another peace of furniture.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] In accordance with the invention, there is provided a computer desk, which comprises an upper shelf for receiving a computer screen, a rotating desktop shelf for additional workspace or for receiving a keyboard, and means for moving the desktop shelf from its upward position to the floor level, exposing in the process a seating area.

[0007] The invention will be more fully understood and further aims, features, details and advantages thereof will become more apparent from the following explanatory description, which refers to the accompanying diagrammatic figures, diagrammatic figures, provided solely by way of example, which illustrate certain embodiments of the invention.

BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0008] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a computer desk with an inner bench in the folded position.

[0009] FIG.2 is a cross-section view of a computer desk with the bench in the folded position.

[0010] FIG.3 is a perspective view of the bench in the unfolded position

[0011] FIG.4 is a cross-section view of the bench in the unfolded position.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0012] Referring to FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, a computer monitor 20 or other devices, are placed on fixed shelf 1, while shelf 2 is used as a desktop. Shelf 1 is supported by lateral panels 3 and 4, while keyboard shelf 2 is supported by side members 5a and 5b and seat 11. Shelves 1 and 2 can be fixed or gliding.

[0013] FIG. 3 and FIG. 4 show the same desk as in FIG. 1, whereby desktop shelf 2 has been rotated along horizontal axis 12 and pivot point 13, from its upward horizontal position to the floor level in one 90 degree angle swing. Desktop shelf 2 has now become a vertical baseboard for a bench made up of seat 11 and backrest 10.

[0014] Pivot point 13 can include a locking and unlocking mechanism that holds desktop shelf 2 in the up position. The lowering of desktop shelf 2 can also be controlled by mechanical or hydraulic shock absorbing means such as a spring.

[0015] Protrusion 14 is a spacer that allows the person to raise baseboard 2 to the desktop level.
