Abstract

A fishing chair including a folding chair portion comprising a seat portion and a seat back portion foldably coupled together. The seat portion has front and rear inverted U-shaped legs foldably coupled thereto. The rear leg has a central aperture therethrough. A fishing rod support is secured to the folding chair. An umbrella support is secured to the folding chair. An anchor stake is dimensioned for extending through the central aperture in the rear leg of the folding chair portion.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to a fishing chair and more particularly pertains to allowing a fisherman to sit comfortably while fishing from a beach area.

[0002] The use of combination chair devices is known in the prior art. More specifically, combination chair devices heretofore devised and utilized for the purpose of allowing a person to sit in comfort are known to consist basically of familiar, expected and obvious structural configurations, notwithstanding the myriad of designs encompassed by the crowded prior art which have been developed for the fulfillment of countless objectives and requirements.

[0003] By way of example, U.S. Pat. No. 4,722,567 to Hashihara discloses a fishing chair with means to hold a fishing rod, with a rotating seat assembly. U.S. Pat. No. 4,428,617 to Lawson discloses a boat mounted fishing seat with means to hold a rod and fishing tackle. U.S. Pat. No. 5,096,259 to Clark discloses a sun shade attachment for a folding chair.

[0004] While these devices fulfill their respective, particular objective and requirements, the aforementioned patents do not describe a fishing chair for allowing a fisherman to sit comfortably while fishing from a beach area.

[0005] In this respect, the fishing chair according to the present invention substantially departs from the conventional concepts and designs of the prior art, and in doing so provides an apparatus primarily developed for the purpose of allowing a fisherman to sit comfortably while fishing from a beach area.

[0006] Therefore, it can be appreciated that there exists a continuing need for a new and improved fishing chair which can be used for allowing a fisherman to sit comfortably while fishing from a beach area. In this regard, the present invention substantially fulfills this need.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] In the view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of combination chair devices now present in the prior art, the present invention provides an improved fishing chair. As such, the general purpose of the present invention, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a new and improved fishing chair which has all the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.

[0008] To attain this, the present invention essentially comprises a folding chair portion comprising a seat portion and a seat back portion foldably coupled together. The seat portion has front and rear inverted U-shaped legs foldably coupled thereto. The rear leg has a central aperture therethrough. The seat back portion has a pair of arm rests extending forwardly therefrom. A fishing rod support is secured to the folding chair. The fishing rod consists of a cylindrical tube secured to the front leg of the folding chair portion in an angular orientation. The cylindrical tube has an open upper end for receiving a fishing rod therein. An umbrella support is secured to the folding chair. The umbrella support consists of an upper cylindrical collar and a lower cylindrical collar. The upper and lower cylindrical collars each have open upper and lower ends. The upper cylindrical collar is secured to the seat back portion. The lower cylindrical collar is secured to the rear leg. An anchor stake is dimensioned for extending through the central aperture in the rear leg of the folding chair portion.

[0009] There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the invention in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are, of course, additional features of the invention that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

[0012] It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fishing chair which has all the advantages of the prior art combination chair devices and none of the disadvantages.

[0014] It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fishing chair which is of durable and reliable construction.

[0015] An even further object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved fishing chair which is susceptible of a low cost of manufacture with regard to both materials and labor, and which accordingly is then susceptible of low prices of sale to the consuming public, thereby making such a fishing chair economically available to the buying public.

[0016] Even still another object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved fishing chair for allowing a fisherman to sit comfortably while fishing from a beach area.

[0017] Lastly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved fishing chair including a folding chair portion comprising a seat portion and a seat back portion foldably coupled together. The seat portion has front and rear inverted U-shaped legs foldably coupled thereto. The rear leg has a central aperture therethrough. A fishing rod support is secured to the folding chair. An umbrella support is secured to the folding chair. An anchor stake is dimensioned for extending through the central aperture in the rear leg of the folding chair portion.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0023] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular, to FIGS. 1 and two thereof, the preferred embodiment of the new and improved fishing chair embodying the principles and concepts of the present invention and generally designated by the reference number 10 will be described.

[0024] Specifically, it will be noted in the various Figures that the device relates to a fishing chair for allowing a fisherman to sit comfortably while fishing from a beach area. In its broadest context, the device consists of a folding chair portion, a fishing rod support, an umbrella support, and an anchor stake. Such components are individually configured and correlated with respect to each other so as to attain the desired objective.

[0025] The folding chair portion 12 consists of a seat portion 14 and a seat back portion 16 foldably coupled together. The arrangement of the folding chair portion 12 is similar to standard beach chairs that reside low with respect to the ground. The seat portion 14 has front and rear inverted U-shaped legs 18,20 foldably coupled thereto. The rear leg 20 has a central aperture 22 therethrough. The seat back portion 16 has a pair of arm rests 24 extending forwardly therefrom.

[0026] The fishing rod support 26 is secured to the folding chair 12. The fishing rod support 26 consists of a cylindrical tube 28 secured to the front leg 18 of the folding chair portion 12 in an angular orientation. The cylindrical tube 28 has an open upper end 30 for receiving a fishing rod 32 therein. Note FIG. 1. The angular orientation of the cylindrical tube 28 allows the fishing rod 32 to be held at an angle, which is desired when fishing.

[0027] The umbrella support is secured to the folding chair portion 12. The umbrella support consists of an upper cylindrical collar 34 and a lower cylindrical collar 36. The upper and lower cylindrical collars 34,36 each have open upper and lower ends. The upper cylindrical collar 34 is secured to the seat back portion 16. The lower cylindrical collar 36 is secured to the rear leg 20. In use, a person would position an umbrella shaft 38 through the upper and lower cylindrical collars 34,36 so that the umbrella 40 could be positioned over the person when sitting. Additionally, the pointed lower end of the umbrella shaft 38 can extend through the open lower end of the lower cylindrical collar 36 to be inserted into the sand to help anchor the device 10.

[0028] The anchor stake 42 is dimensioned for extending through the central aperture 22 in the rear leg 20 of the folding chair portion 12. The anchor stake 42 will also extend into the sand to further anchor the device 10. Additionally, the anchor stake is provided with an enlarged upper end to allow the anchor stake 42 to be easily driven into the sand using a hammer or the like.

[0029] As to the manner of usage and operation of the present invention, the same should be apparent from the above description. Accordingly, no further discussion relating to the manner of usage and operation will be provided.

[0030] With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and the manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.

Further, since numerous modification and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modification and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.

Claims

1. A fishing chair for allowing a fisherman to sit comfortably while fishing from a beach area comprising, in combination:

a folding chair portion consisting of a seat portion and a seat back portion foldably coupled together, the seat portion having front and rear inverted U-shaped legs foldably coupled thereto, the rear leg having a central aperture therethrough, the seat back portion having a pair of arm rests extending forwardly therefrom;

a fishing rod support secured to the folding chair, the fishing rod support consisting of a cylindrical tube secured to the front leg of the folding chair portion in an angular orientation, the cylindrical tube having an open upper end for receiving a fishing rod therein;

an umbrella support secured to the folding chair, the umbrella support consisting of an upper cylindrical collar and a lower cylindrical collar, the upper and lower cylindrical collars each having open upper and lower ends, the upper cylindrical collar secured to the seat back portion, the lower cylindrical collar secured to the rear leg; and

an anchor stake dimensioned for extending through the central aperture in the rear leg of the folding chair portion.

2. A fishing chair for allowing a fisherman to sit comfortably while fishing from a beach area comprising, in combination:

a folding chair portion consisting of a seat portion and a seat back portion foldably coupled together, the seat portion having front and rear inverted U-shaped legs foldably coupled thereto, the rear leg having a central aperture therethrough;

a fishing rod support secured to the folding chair;

an umbrella support secured to the folding chair; and

an anchor stake dimensioned for extending through the central aperture in the rear leg of the folding chair portion.

3. The fishing chair as set forth in claim two, wherein the seat back portion has a pair of arm rests extending forwardly therefrom.

4. The fishing chair as set forth in claim two, wherein the fishing rod support consists of a cylindrical tube secured to the front leg of the folding chair portion in an angular orientation, the cylindrical tube having an open upper end for receiving a fishing rod therein.

The fishing chair as set forth in claim two, wherein the umbrella support consists of an upper cylindrical collar and a lower cylindrical collar, the upper and lower cylindrical collars each having open upper and lower ends, the upper cylindrical collar secured to the seat back portion, the lower cylindrical collar secured to the rear leg.
