Hanging ornament kit

A hanging ornament kit including a flexible planar base having an outer surface that carries a decorative indicia and an inner surface that carries a releasable adhesive. A flexible loop made of a decorative string or ribbon is attached to the base and extends out from the outer decorative surface. A removable protective cover overlies the adhesive and is removed immediately before the adhesive surface is brought into contact with an ornament, such as a small children's toy, to secure the ornament to the base. The flexible loop may then be placed over a branch of a tree to hang the ornament during the holiday season. When the holiday season is over, the base may be peeled from the toy and the toy returned to the child's toy box.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0004] 1. Field of the Invention

[0005] The present invention relates to the field of ornamental articles, and more particularly to a hanging ornament kit.

[0006] 2. Description of Related Art

[0007] As can be seen by reference to the following U.S. Pat. Nos. 4,173,667; 4,309,464; 5,226,993 and 6,053,322, the prior art is replete with myriad and diverse ornamental articles.

[0008] While all of the aforementioned prior art constructions are more than adequate for the basic purpose and function for which they have been specifically designed, they are uniformly deficient with respect to their failure to provide a simple, efficient, and practical hanging ornament kit.

[0009] As a consequence of the foregoing situation, there has existed a longstanding need for a new and improved hanging ornament kit and the provision of such a construction is a stated objective of the present invention.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0010] Briefly stated, the present invention provides a hanging ornament kit including a flexible planar base having an outer surface that carries a decorative indicia and an inner surface that carries a releasable adhesive.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWINGS

[0011] These and other attributes of the invention will become more clear upon a thorough study of the following description of the best mode for carrying out the invention, particularly when reviewed in conjunction with the drawings, wherein:

[0012] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the hanging ornament kit of the present invention showing an ornament attached;

[0013] FIG. 2 is a perspective view illustrating the protective cover being peeled away from the adhesive on the inner surface of the flexible planar base;

[0014] FIG. 3 is a partial perspective view similar to FIG. 2, but showing a flexible base in the shape of a star instead of a fanciful snowflake, and showing a ribbon loop instead of a string loop; and

[0015] FIG. 4 is a perspective view showing an alternate embodiment of the invention where the flexible loop is formed by a flexible connector that extends between a pair of planar bases attached to a ceiling or a wall and streamers are draped over and extend down from the loop.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0016] As can be seen by reference to the drawings, and in particularly to FIG. 1, the hanging ornament kit that forms the basis of the present invention is designated generally by the reference number 10. The hanging ornament kit 10 includes a flexible planar base 20 that may be made of paper, cloth or any other suitable flexible material. The base 20 has an outer surface 30 with a shape and other decorative indicia that may simulate a fanciful snowflake (FIGS. 1, 2 and 4), a star (FIG. 3), or other holiday symbols. The inner surface 40 of the base 20 carries a releasable adhesive 45 and a removable protective non-stick cover 50. A flexible loop 60 is attached to the base 20 and extends out from the outer decorative surface 30. The loop 60 may be formed of gold string, ribbon or other decorative material The protective cover 50 is removed immediately before the adhesive 45 is brought into contact with a selected ornament 70. It is to be understood that the ornament 70 could be any various small decorative items such as a small toy, paper ornaments made by children at school, pine cones, and many others. Once the ornament 70 is attached to the base 20, the loop 60 may be positioned over a branch of a tree to hang the ornament 70. After the holiday season, the base 20 may be peeled away from the ornament 70, such as a child's toy, which may then be used by the child to play with.

[0017] An alternate embodiment of the invention is illustrated in FIG. 4 that shows a kit 110 including a pair of bases 20 that may be releasably attached to an object such as a ceiling or a wall in spaced relationship. A flexible connector 160 that is attached to and interconnects the bases 20 sags down to form a loop upon which decorative material 170, such as streamers or garland, may be draped.

[0018] Although only an exemplary embodiment of the invention has been described in detail above, those skilled in the art will readily appreciate that many modifications are possible without materially departing from the novel teachings and advantages of this invention. Accordingly, all such modifications are intended to be included within the scope of this invention as defined in the following claims.
