Dart board net

Abstract

The dart board net invention comprises an attachable netting type material extending horizontally and perpendicular to the front surface of the dart board, affixed to and circumscribing the bottom half portion of the dart board exterior surface to catch any dart that might not stick or adhere to the dart board surface when thrown.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The invention relates generally to the game of darts and the various equipment involved. In particular, the invention involves a dart catching net to prevent darts that do not stick to the dart board when thrown from falling to the floor.

[0004] Of the over 100 patents relating to the game of darts, the following pattents pertain to controlling errantly thrown darts. They are: U.S. Pat. No. 5,496,039 and U.S. Pat No. 5,735,527.

[0005] U.S. Pat. No. 5,496,039 relates to a dart game apparatus adapted for play in combination with darts is provided for. The apparatus comprises a backstop. The backstop includes a vertical surface to intercept errant darts. The dart board also includes a rotatable target assembly. the target assembly has a hub rotatably mounted to the backstop forward of the vertical surface, one or more arms radiating outward from the hub, and a dart board mounted on each of the arms. The dart boards include a plurality of targets adapted to capture darts striking the target segments.

[0006] U.S. Pat. No. 5,735,527 shows a dart board that includes a front and lower portion having one or more included apertures for stably receiving and supporting darts. The included apertures are defined by a cone shaped wall member. The cone shaped wall member includes a free end portion of reduced diameter and having one or more slits for forming a number of resilient blades so as to stably retain the dart in place. A drawer is slidably engaged in the dart board for receiving elements.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] The invention relates to a device to capture darts that do not stick or adhere to the face of the dart board when thrown to prevent them from falling to the floor and make them readily available to be retrieved by the thrower in the standing position.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0012] FIG. 1 illustrates a front view of a dart board (1) mounted and ready for play. The uprights, (2) on either side of the dart board extend beyond the top of the dart board to contain errantly thrown darts within the net. The uprights, (2) consist of rigid flat nylon straps sewn or affixed to the vertical sides of the net. The front horizontal portion of the net is stretched apart by the slotted bar, (3) attached to the perpendicular horizontal straps (4) that stretch the net forward from the board forming the horizontal portion of the net The sides of the net stretch forward and angled downward form the top of the uprights, (2) to the forward end of the perpendicular straps, (4). The dart net is affixed to the sides and bottom perimeter of the dart board by velcro straps, (5) and (6). The perpendicular horizontal straps, (4) are separated under the bottom perimeter of the dart board in FIG. 4 by the Velcro straps, (6). The forward separation of these straps, (4) is shown in FIG. 3 by the slotted horizontal strap (3).

Claims

1. The dart board net is an apparatus to capture darts that do not stick to the dart board surface when thrown to prevent them from falling to the floor.

2. The dart board net of claim 1 will capture darts that do not stick to the dart board to be retrieved by the thrower in the standing position.
