  • Patent number: 9004490
Abstract: According to one aspect of the present invention, a projectile target is disclosed comprising a target having a substantially sealed chamber having a front face and a rear face with an enclosing side wall disposed intermediate. The front and rear faces are formed by membranes configured to allow a projectile to pass therethrough and then substantially seal to maintain the substantially sealed chamber. Pressure wave sensors are disposed within the chamber and are configured to detect pressure waves created by the projectile. A target controller receives signals from the pressure sensors indicative of the pressure sensed by the sensors and determines an impact point of the projectile on the front face of the target.

  • Patent number: 8899591
Abstract: A shooting target having two overlaid target sheets. The front sheet provides a user with a photorealistic image of a desired target object (e.g., game animal or human assailant). Behind the front sheet is another sheet having the same image thereon, but with portions of that target which represent vital organs superimposed over the appropriate portions of the target's body. Having the rear sheet that provides the user with the marksmanship feedback behind the visible target sheet provides a more realistic shooting experience by eliminating the “aim-points” of traditional targets. Further, the dual layer target produces a “souvenir” sheet that readily shows which vital organ was struck.

Abstract: An archery target including a rigid frame including a target side, a sheet secured to the frame on a target side to create an interior compartment bounded by the sheet and the frame, a compressed density material in the compartment and a backing. The sheet can be a filtration screen constructed from synthetic polymers, optionally polyamide fibers, and can have a weight of 13 to 16 ounces per square yard, and can include parallel warp yarns formed from three pairs monofilament polyamide fibers, the three pairs of fibers twisted together to form a cable yarn, as well as parallel fill yarn formed from a single monofilament polyamide fiber. A related method includes: providing a rigid frame; securing a sheet to the frame to create an interior compartment; compressing a density material; and securing a backing to the frame.

Abstract: A web or grid for a game board for use in playing a combination of darts and a card game with sets of darts, has a plurality of elongate members disposed parallel to each of two mutually perpendicular axes, to define a plurality of rectangular openings. The web or grid, when provided over a main surface of a body of the game board divides the main surface into a plurality of target areas. A game board for the combination game has a body which defines a substantially flat playing surface into or against which a dart is receivable, and a web or grid which divides the playing surface into target areas in each of which is provided a representation of a respective playing card.

Abstract: A composite archery target 10 includes a first member 12 fabricated from a tear resistant material, a second member 14 fabricated from a healing material, the second member 14 is disposed about the first member 12, and a glue 16 for securing the second member 14 to the first member 12; such that a composite archery target 10 is fabricated that prevents an arrow from traveling through the target 10, that minimizes damage to the target 10 when the arrow is removed from the target 10, and that allows an archer to withdraw an arrow from the target 10 with a relatively small extraction force. A third member 52 may be included when preselected arrows require a modified composite archery target 50 with added resistance to the penetrating capability of the preselected arrows.

Abstract: A target includes a face member, a side wall, and an image. The face member includes a first edge that at least partially surrounds the face member. The side wall is connected to the face member at the first edge. The side wall increases the strength and stability of the target. The image is located on a surface of the face member. A method of making the target includes obtaining a sheet of material; heating the sheet of material; using a mold to define a face member, side wall member, and flange member from the heated sheet of material; cooling the sheet of material after defining the face member, side wall member, and flange member; removing an excess portion of the flange member; and printing an image on the sheet of material.

Abstract: An archery target includes a cylindrical body having a substantially circular top surface, a substantially circular base surface, and an intermediate section extending between the top surface and base surface. The target can be made by winding at least one layer of a flexible material, such as polyurethane foam, to form the cylindrical body. The target can be positioned such that the top surface faces upward and the base surface faces downward, and the user shoots arrows at the intermediate section. After a substantial number of arrows have been shot into the particular area of the intermediate section facing the user, the target can be rotated to expose a previously unused and unblemished area of the intermediate section of the target for further target practice. The target can be part of a kit that includes instructions for using the target accordingly.

  • Patent number: 7469904
Abstract: The present invention relates to a front cover of target frames of dartboards with a tidy appearance and a long service life, which comprises a cylindrical housing frame provided with a flange at the bottom edge used for connection. A metal gauze or spider is integrated with the cylindrical housing frame at the circumference. The toroidal and radial bars of the metal gauze are all provided with inverted V-shaped grooves, which are in the back of the metal gauze and filled with an injection molding filler to form a flat back surface. The present invention adopts the stamped triangular metal gauze, the cylindrical housing frame made of ABS materials, an assembly nail and the flange, and produces the front cover of targets through injection molding. The present invention not only produces a tidy appearance especially applicable to metal darts, but also increases fun of the game.

Abstract: An archery target is manufactured by stacking a plurality of layers of foam with the bottom surface of an upper layer engaging the top surface of a lower layer in face-to-face engagement to form a stack having a top surface, a bottom surface and a plurality of side surfaces. The foam layers are compressed and the layers of foam are secured to each other by applying heat to the side surfaces such that a plurality of target faces of at least partially melted foam are formed. The layers of foam are further integrated to one another by applying a heated rod through the entire stack to form at least one hole extending through the layers. The archery target is capable of being used in a stand-alone arrangement having at least four target faces and could be used as an insert for a three-dimensionally shaped target shell.
