Modular household fabric product with a cover mounted removably on a side surface of a bag

Abstract

A modular household fabric product includes a fabric bag, a sheet of fabric outer cover overlying an outer side surface of the bag, and a fastener device for connecting the outer cover removably to the bag. The fastener device includes a male member fastened to a peripheral portion of one of the bag and the outer cover, and a female member fastened to a peripheral portion of the other of the bag and the outer cover and connected removably to the male member. Preferably, the male member is a hook fastener, while the female member is a loop fastener.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] This invention relates to a household fabric product, and more particularly to a modular household fabric product, which includes a cover that is mounted removably on a side surface of a bag and which can be applied to bedspreads, flat sheets, quilt covers, pillowcases, sofas, sleeping bags, etc.

[0003] 2. Description of the Related Art

[0004] Referring to FIG. 1, a conventional bedding assembly is shown to include a dust ruffle 61, a fitted sheet 62, a comforter 63, a pillow 64, and a bedspread 65. The dust ruffle 61 is formed with a plurality of folds so as to conceal a bed base. Although the dust ruffle 61 is clamped between the bed base and the fitted sheet 62, it may be attached to three sides of the fitted sheet 62. The fitted sheet 62 covers a mattress, which can be replaced with a feather bed, so as to maintain the cleanliness of the same for prolonging the serve life thereof. To cover the mattress effectively, in case the fitted sheet 62 is formed from a single piece of cloth, a periphery of the fitted sheet 62 is clamped between the mattress and the bed base. Alternatively, the fitted sheet 62 may be provided with resilient bands that are disposed under the mattress so as to clamp the mattress between the fitted sheet 62 and the bands. Normally, the comforter 63 includes a bag, which is made of a fabric and which is filled with cotton, feathers, chemical fibers, or any other suitable temperature-keeping elements for protecting and warming purposes. In practice, two pieces of clothes may be sewn on two side surfaces of the bag so as to protect the filled elements, thereby forming a quilt. The quilt is normally enclosed with a quilt cover, and may be replaced with a blanket, which is typically formed from a single piece of fabric. Because it is usually difficult to wash the comforter 63, a fabric comforter cover is provided to enclose the same during use, thereby preventing pollution thereof. As such, it is only necessary to wash the comforter cover. Normally, a conventional comforter cover is rectangular, and has a side with a side opening, which can be closed by a fastener device, such as hook-and-loop fasteners or an assembly of buttons and retaining rings. In the case of blankets, a thin flat sheet 631 is usually used to isolate the user from the blanket for avoiding uncomfortable contact. Likewise, the pillow 64 is provided with a pillowcase. The bedspread 65 can cover all or some of the elements 61, 62, 63, 64 for dust-protection and tidiness purposes. Normally, the bedspread 65 includes a horizontal top portion that has a cotton layer sandwiched between two cloth layers, and a folded lower edge that is suspended from three sides of the top portion. Although the conventional assembly can provide a comfortable sleeping environment for the user, it has the following disadvantages:

[0005] 1. Difficulties during assembly:

[0006] First of all, the dust ruffle 61 is placed on the bed base. The mattress is enclosed with the fitted sheet 62, and is subsequently placed on the dust ruffle 61 so as to clamp the dust ruffle 61 between the fitted sheet 62 and the bed base. In case the fitted sheet 62 is formed from a single piece of cloth, it is flattened on the dust ruffle 61 in such a manner that three sides of the fitted sheet 62 extend outward from the dust ruffle 61. Then, the sides of the mattress are raised from the dust ruffle 61 in sequence with one hand so that three sides of the fitted sheet 62 are inserted between the mattress and the dust ruffle 61 by the other hand. The flat sheet 631 and the comforter 63 are put and flattened on the fitted sheet 62, after which the comforter 63 is folded outwardly by about 30 cm so as to enable exposure of a portion of the flat sheet 631. In case the comforter 63 includes a rectangular quilt and a rectangular comforter cover, the quilt is placed and positioned within the comforter cover by the steps of (1) opening the side opening in the comforter cover, (2) holding a first corner of the comforter cover, (3) inserting a first corner of the quilt into the comforter cover so that the first corners of the comforter cover and the quilt are held together, thereby registering the first corners of the quilt and the comforter cover, (4) registering the remaining corners of the comforter cover with those of the quilt in the manner, in which the first corners are registered, and (5) flattening the comforter cover and the quilt. The pillow 64 is compressed first to a compact unit, and is then put into the pillowcase, after which it is placed on the fitted sheet 62. Finally, the elements 61, 62, 63, 64 are covered by the bedspread 65. As such, it is time-consuming to mount the bedding assembly on the bed base.

[0007] 2. Difficulties during use:

[0008] Because the blanket 63 is relatively thick and heavy, while the flat sheet 631 is relatively thin and light, they easily separate. As a result, the flat sheet 631 cannot protect the blanket 63 from pollution. In case of the quilt and the comforter cover, the quilt easily moves within the comforter cover during use in view of the condition that no positioning means is provided therebetween. Accordingly, it is necessary to spread out and flatten the quilt within the comforter cover after use in order to avoid uneven distribution of the quilt.

[0009] 3. Difficulties during washing:

[0010] When it is desired to wash the dust ruffle 61, it is necessary to remove the mattress from the bed base, thereby enabling removal of the dust ruffle 61, which is an energy-consuming task. Furthermore, when the comforter cover and the pillowcase are washed within a washing machine, dirt attached within the comforter cover and the pillowcase are difficult to remove. Also, because the volume of the dust ruffle 61 is relatively large, it is inconvenient to wash the same.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0011] An object of this invention is to provide a modular household fabric product with a cover that is mounted easily and removably on a side surface of a bag and that can be easily removed from the same for washing purposes.

[0012] According to this invention, a modular household fabric product includes a fabric bag, a sheet of fabric outer cover overlying an outer side surface of the large bag, and a first fastener device for connecting the outer cover removably to the bag. The first fastener device includes a male member fastened to a peripheral portion of one of the bag and the outer cover, and a female member fastened to a peripheral portion of the other of the large bag and the outer cover and connected removably to the male member. Preferably, the male member is a hook fastener, while the female member is a loop fastener.

[0013] If necessary, an inner cover can be mounted removably on an inner side surface of the bag by a second fastener device, which can also include hook-and-loop fasteners.

[0014] In this way, the outer cover can be mounted removably on a top surface of a mattress by the first fastener device so as to substitute for a conventional fitted sheet. In addition, the inner cover can be mounted removably on and suspended from the mattress by the second fastener device so as to substitute for a dust ruffle.

[0015] Similarly, the inner and outer covers can be mounted removably on two opposite side surfaces of a bag of a pillow or a quilt so as to substitute for a pillowcase or comforter cover.

[0016] As such, a bedding assembly consisting of the above fabric elements can be easily mounted on a bed base. Furthermore, the inner and outer covers are positioned on the pillow or the quilt by the first and second fastener devices, thereby preventing relative movement during use. Another advantage of this invention resides in that the inner and outer covers, which need to be washed frequently, can be easily removed.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0036] Before the present invention is described in greater detail with reference to the preferred embodiments, it should be noted that similar elements and structures are designated by like reference numbers throughout the entire disclosure.

[0037] Referring to FIG. 2, a first preferred embodiment of a modular household fabric product according to this invention is shown to include a fabric large bag 1, a sheet of fabric outer cover 2, and a sheet of fabric inner cover 3, which are rectangular. The large bag 1 has an opening (not shown), an outer side surface 101 and an inner side surface 102, which are opposite to each other. The inner and outer covers 3, 2 overly respectively the inner and outer side surfaces 102, 101.

[0038] The outer cover 2 is mounted removably on the outer side surface 101 by means of a first fastener device 41, which includes an annular male member 411 and an annular female member 412 that are interconnected removably. The male member 411 is constructed as a hook fastener, and is fastened to a peripheral portion of the outer side surface 101 of the large bag 1. The female member 412 is constructed as a loop fastener, and is fastened to a peripheral portion of the outer cover 2.

[0039] The inner cover 3 is mounted removably on the inner side surface 102 by means of a second fastener device 42, which includes an annular male member 421 and an annular female member 422 that are interconnected removably. The male member 421 is constructed as a hook fastener, and is fastened to a peripheral portion of the inner cover 3. The female member 422 is constructed as a loop fastener, and is fastened to a peripheral portion of the inner side surface 102 of the large bag 1.

[0040] Referring to FIG. 3, a modified large bag 1 has an inner wall 10, an outerwall 10′, and an annular decorative sheet 13. Each of the inner and outer walls 10, 10′ consists of a central sheet 100 with an outwardly folded outer peripheral portion 100′, and an annular surrounding sheet 12, 11 with an inner periphery that is sewn on the folded outer peripheral portion 100′ of the central sheet 100. The outer peripheries of the surrounding sheets 11, 12 are sewn together. The male member 411 of the first fastener device 41 is fastened to the surrounding sheet 11 of the outer wall 10′, while the female member 412 of the first fastener device 41 is fastened to the outer cover 2. The male member 421 of the second fastener device 42 is fastened to the inner cover 3, while the female member 422 of the second fastener device 42 is fastened to the surrounding sheet 12 of the inner wall 10. The decorative sheet 13 is sewn on the outer peripheries of the surrounding sheets 12, 11 of the inner and outer walls 10, 10′, and has two non-sewn side edges 131 that cover the outer peripheries of the inner and outer covers 3, 2.

[0041] Referring to FIG. 4, when the inner and outer covers 3, 2 are removed forcibly from the inner and outer walls 10, 10′ of the large bag 1, the surrounding sheets 11, 12 can be inserted into a space between the central sheets 100, thereby permitting detachable interconnection between the male member 411 of the first fastener device 41 and the female member 422 of the second fastener device 42. Accordingly, the surrounding sheets 12, 11 of the inner and outer walls 10, 10′ are confined between the central sheets 100 of the inner and outer walls 10, 10′, thereby preventing exposure of the male member 411 and the female member 422, which will affect adversely the appearance of the large bag 1 when the inner and outer covers 3, 2 (see FIG. 3) are removed from the large bag 1.

[0042] Referring to FIG. 4A, one of the central sheets 100 has an inner surface, which is preferably formed with a sheet of lace member 13′ and a first hook-and-loop fastener unit 413. The lace member 13′ covers the first hook-and-loop fastener unit 413, and has a side that is sewn on the central sheet 100.

[0043] Referring to FIG. 4B, when the lace member 13′ is raised up, a fabric decorative cover 13″ can be attached to the inner surface of the central sheet 100 by engaging the first hook-and-loop fastener unit 413 with a second hook-and-loop fastener unit 131, which is fastened to the decorative cover 13″. One of the first and second hook-and-loop fastener units 413, 131 is constructed as a hook fastener, while the other is constructed as a loop fastener.

[0044] FIG. 5 shows another preferred embodiment of this invention, which is similar to the embodiment shown in FIG. 2 in construction except for a modification of the inner cover 3 and addition of a third fastener device 43. In this embodiment, the inner cover 3 is disposed around a side of the large bag 1, and includes an extended side portion 31, which extends over the outer side surface 101 of the large bag 1. The third fastener device 43 includes a male member 431 that is fastened to the side portion 31 of the inner cover 3, and a female member 432 that is fastened to the outer cover 2 and that is connected removably to the male member 431. The male member 431 is constructed as a plurality of buttons, while the female member 432 is constructed as a plurality of retaining rings. When the large bag 1 serves as a portion of a quilt and when the inner and outer covers 3, 2 serve as a covering unit of the quilt, the side portion 31 of the inner cover 3 is disposed near the neck of the user during use. As such, the body of the user, including the neck and the hands, contacts only the inner cover 3. Because the outer cover 2 seldom contacts the body of the user, it does not need to be washed often.

[0045] FIG. 6 shows a modified upper cover 2, which includes an annular side sheet 20 and a replaceable patterned sheet 21. The patterned sheet 21 has an outer periphery that abuts against an inner periphery of the side sheet 20 and that is attached to the side sheet 20 by means of a fourth fastener device 44. The fourth fastener device 44 has a male member 441 that is fastened to the patterned sheet 21, and a female member 442 that is fastened to the side sheet 20 and that is connected removably to the male member 441. The male member 441 is constructed as a hook fastener, while the female member 442 is constructed as a loop fastener.

[0046] Note that when the large bag 1 is relatively thin, the corners thereof easily deform. Referring to FIG. 7, a modified fabric product is provided to solve this problem, and has four corner units, each of which includes a triangular small bag 14 and a fifth fastener device 45. In this embodiment, the large bag 1 has four notches, which are formed respectively at four corners thereof. Each of the small bags 14 can be disposed at an extended position, where the small bags 14 extend into the notches, respectively, and thereby constitute four corners of the large bag 1. The fifth fastener device 45 includes a male member 451 that is fastened to the small bag 14, and two female members 452 that are fastened respectively to the inner and outer covers 3, 2 and that are connected removably to the male member 451, thereby preventing deformation of the corners of the large bag 1. The male member 451 is constructed as a plurality of buttons, while the female members 452 are constructed as retaining rings. When the large bag 1 is applied to a mattress, which is relatively thick, because the corners of the large bag 1 cannot deform, the small bag 14 can be moved to a retracted position, in which it is inserted into and is concealed within the large bag 1, as shown in FIG. 8.

[0047] FIGS. 9 and 10 illustrate an application of this invention to an assembly of a mattress and a dust ruffle 5. The large bag 1 serves as a portion of the mattress, and is adapted to accommodate a mattress body 103 therein. The dust ruffle 5 is disposed around the large bag 1, and extends downwardly from an outer periphery of the large bag 1. The outer cover 2 is attached removably to the outer side surface 101 of the large bag 1 by the first fastener device 41 so as to substitute for a fitted sheet. The dust ruffle 5 is attached removably to the inner side surface 102 of the large bag 1 by the second fastener device 42. As such, the outer cover 2 and the dust ruffle 5 can be easily removed from the mattress for washing purposes.

[0048] FIG. 11 illustrates another application of this invention. In this embodiment, two opposite sides of the outer cover 2 are provided respectively with a pair of zipper halves 7 so that the fabric product of this invention can form a sleeping bag by folding the upper cover 2 and by interconnecting the zipper halves 7. The large bag 1 and the inner cover 3 are disposed within the sleeping bag, which is formed from the outer cover 2. The large bag 1 is filled with a warming material 104 (see FIG. 13), such as chemical fiber, feather, and down.

[0049] Referring to FIG. 12, the outer cover 2 includes a rectangular storage bag 8, which is fastened thereto and which is provided with an auxiliary zipper unit 81. When the sleeping bag is not in use, the outer cover 2 can be folded and inserted into the storage bag 8, after which an opening 82 of the storage bag 8 is in turn closed by means of the zipper unit 81.

[0050] Referring to FIG. 14, the fabric product of this invention can also be applied to a sofa unit, in which the outer cover 2 is attached removably to the outer side surface 101 of the large bag 1 that is filled with a cushioning material, such as sponge, feather, and down, to constitute a back cushion. The inner side surface 102 of the large bag 1 is attached removably to a back 9 of the sofa unit by the second fastener device 42.

[0051] Referring to FIG. 15, the fabric product of this invention can also be applied to a seat cushion 9′ of a sofa unit, and includes a large bag 1, an outer cover 2 and an inner cover 3. The large bag 1 is filled with a cushioning material, and is put on a seat portion 91 of the sofa unit. The outer cover 2 is disposed over the large bag 1. The inner cover 3 is disposed under the large bag 1. The outer and inner covers 2, 3 have outer peripheries that abut against each other so as to conceal the large bag 1 completely.

[0052] Referring to FIG. 16, the fabric product of this invention can also be applied to a headboard cushion 9″ of a bed, and includes a large bag 1 and an outer cover 2. The large bag 1 is shaped as a vertical plate that abuts against and that is disposed in front of a headboard 66. The outer cover 1 is disposed in front of the large bag 1.

[0053] With this invention thus explained, it is apparent that numerous modifications and variations can be made without departing the scope and spirit of this invention. It is therefore intended that this invention be limited only as indicated by the appended claims.

Claims

1. A modular household fabric product comprising:

a fabric large bag having an outer side surface and an inner side surface, which are opposite to each other;

a sheet of fabric outer cover overlying said outer side surface of said large bag; and

a first fastener device including

a male member fastened to a peripheral portion of one of said large bag and said outer cover, and

a female member fastened to a peripheral portion of the other of said large bag and said outer cover and connected removably to said male member of said first fastener device.

2. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:

an inner cover overlying said inner side surface of said large bag; and

a second fastener device including

a male member fastened to a peripheral portion of one of said large bag and said inner cover, and

a female member fastened to a peripheral portion of the other of said large bag and said inner cover and connected removably to said male member of said second fastener device.

The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 2, wherein said large bag includes an inner wall and an outer wall, each of which has a central sheet with an outwardly folded outer peripheral portion, and an annular surrounding sheet with an inner periphery sewn on said folded outer peripheral portion of said central sheet, said outer peripheries of said surrounding sheets of said inner and outer walls being sewn together, said male member of said first fastener device being fastened to said surrounding sheet of said outer wall, said female member of said first fastener device being fastened to said outer cover, said male member of said second fastener device being fastened to said inner cover, said female member of said second fastener device being fastened to said surrounding sheet of said inner wall, said inner and outer covers being capable of being removed forcibly from said inner and outer walls of said large bag so that said surrounding sheets can be inserted into a space between said central sheets, thereby permitting detachable interconnection between said male member of said first fastener device and said female member of said second fastener device, whereby, said surrounding sheets of said inner and outer walls can be confined between said central sheets of said inner and outer walls.

The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 3, wherein one of said central sheets is formed with a sheet of lace member and a first hook-and-loop fastener unit, said first hook-and-loop fastener unit being fastened to said one of said central sheets, said lace member covering said first hook-and-loop fastener unit and having a side that is sewn on said one of said central sheets, said large bag further including a fabric decorative cover with a second hook-and-loop fastener unit that engages said first hook-and-loop fastener unit so as to attach said decorative cover to said one of said central sheets, one of said first and second hook-and-loop fastener units being constructed as a hook fastener, the other one of said first and second hook-and-loop fastener units being constructed as a loop fastener.

The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 3, further comprising an annular decorative sheet, which is sewn on said outer peripheries of said surrounding sheets of said inner and outer walls and which has two non-sewn side edges that cover outer peripheries of said inner and outer covers.

6. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 2, wherein said male members of said first and second fastener devices are constructed as hook fasteners, while said female members of said first and second fastener devices are constructed as loop fasteners.

The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 2, wherein said inner cover is disposed around a side of said large bag, and includes a side portion, which extends over said outer side surface of said large bag, said fabric product further including a third fastener device, which has a male member that is fastened to one of said outer cover and said side portion of said inner cover, and a female member that is fastened to the other of said outer cover and said side portion of said inner cover and that is connected removably to said female member of said third fastener device.

8. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 7, wherein said male member of said third fastener device is constructed as a plurality of buttons, while said female member of said third fastener device is constructed as a plurality of retaining rings.

The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 1, wherein said outer cover includes an annular side sheet, and a patterned sheet which has an outer periphery that abuts against an inner periphery of said side sheet of said outer cover, said fabric product further including a fourth fastener device, which has a male member that is fastened to one of said inner periphery of said side sheet and said outer periphery of said patterned sheet, and a female member that is fastened to the other of said inner periphery of said side sheet and said outer periphery of said patterned sheet and that is connected removably to said male member of said fourth fastener device.

10. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 9, wherein said male member of said fourth fastener device is constructed as a hook fastener, while said female member of said fourth fastener device is constructed as a loop fastener.

11. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:

an inner cover overlying said inner side surface of said large bag; and

a second fastener device including

a male member fastened to a peripheral portion of one of said large bag and said inner cover, and

a female member fastened to a peripheral portion of the other of said large bag and said inner cover and connected removably to said male member of said second fastener device;

wherein each of said large bag and said inner and outer covers is rectangular, and includes four triangular small bags, each of which is movable between an extended position, where said small bags constitute four corners of said large bag, and a retracted position, where said small bags are concealed within said large bag, said fabric product further including four fifth fastener devices, each of which includes a male member that is fastened to a respective one of said small bags, and two female members that are fastened respectively to said inner and outer covers and that are connected removably to said male member of a respective one of said fifth fastener devices when the respective one of said small bags is disposed at the extended position.

12. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 11, wherein said male members of said fifth fastener devices are constructed as buttons, while said female members of said fifth fastener devices are constructed as retaining rings.

The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 1, wherein said large bag is adapted to accommodate a mattress body therein, said fabric product further including a dust ruffle, which is disposed around said large bag and which extends downwardly from an outer periphery of said large bag, and a second fastener device, which includes a male member that is fastened to one of said dust ruffle and said inner side surface of said large bag, and a female member that is fastened to the other of said dust ruffle and said inner side surface of said large bag.

14. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:

an inner cover overlying said inner side surface of said large bag; and

a second fastener device including

a male member fastened to a peripheral portion of one of said large bag and said inner cover, and

a female member fastened to a peripheral portion of the other of said large bag and said inner cover and connected removably to said male member of said second fastener device;

wherein said outer cover has two opposite sides, which are provided respectively with a pair of zipper halves which are interconnected by folding said outer cover so that said outer cover is formed as a sleeping bag, within which said large bag and said inner cover are disposed.

The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 14, wherein said outer cover is provided with a storage bag, which is fastened thereto and which includes an opening, and an auxiliary zipper unit for closing said opening, said storage bag being sized so that said outer cover can be folded and stored therein when said sleeping bag is not in use.

16. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 1, wherein said large bag is filled with a cushioning material and is adapted to be attached removably to a back of a sofa unit, thereby acting as a back cushion.

17. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 16, wherein said cushioning material is chemical fiber.

18. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 16, wherein said cushioning material is feather.

19. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 16, wherein said cushioning material is down.

20. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:

an inner cover overlying said inner side surface of said large bag; and

a second fastener device including

a male member fastened to a peripheral portion of one of said large bag and said inner cover, and

a female member fastened to a peripheral portion of the other of said large bag and said inner cover and connected removably to said male member of said second fastener device;

wherein said large bag is filled with a cushioning material, and is adapted to be put on a seat portion of a sofa unit, said outer cover being disposed over said large bag, said inner cover being disposed under said large bag, whereby, said product serves as a seat cushion of the sofa unit.

21. The modular household fabric product as claimed in claim 1, wherein said large bag is shaped as a vertical plate that is adapted to abut against and that is adapted to be disposed in front of a headboard of a bed, said outer cover being disposed in front of said large bag, whereby, said product serves as a headboard cushion of the bed.
