Device and method for attaching hair

Abstract

A hair weave attachment device has a plurality of pin-like protrusions extending from a flexible band. The flexible band provides a method for attaching the hair weave attachment device to a commercial hair weave. The pin-like protrusions provide a method for attaching the hair weave attachment device, having the hair weave attached thereto, to a wearer. The resulting hair weave can be easily attached and removed from the wearer. This provides a quick and easy method for changing hair styles without requiring any messy glue removers or the cutting of threads, which are required to remove hair weaves attached in the conventional manner.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to a device and method for attaching hair to a person's head. More specifically, the present invention relates to a device and method for attaching a hair weave to a person's hair without requiring glue or sewing the weave into the person's hair.

[0002] Beauty salons will stylize a customer's hair, adding hair extensions for thickening, lengthening, coloring, or texturing their hair. However, the tedious operation takes many hours for sewing in the extensions with thread and glue. Furthermore, should one desire a style change or removal of the hair weave, chemicals must be added to the hair to remove the existing hair weave, and an additional, different weave is then added in its place. Optionally, if the initial weave was sewn into place, cutting the threads of the sewing could result in damage to the individual's natural hair.

[0003] U.S. Pat. No. 5,868,145 discloses a hair extension and thickening process in which a weft of natural or synthetic supplemental hair is suspended upon a mounting surface. A small bundle of supplemental hair is segregated from the weft. A liquid latex is applied thereto, and the latex is twisted into it so that the supplemental hair is thoroughly coated, intertwined and bonded together at the junction so formed. Cyanoacrylate adhesive is applied to further bond the bundle of supplemental hair. The supplemental bundles are then permanently separated from the weft and may later be bonded to a person's natural hair through the use of a hot melt acrylic adhesive. To remove the supplemental bundle of hair, however, acetone or a suitable chemical solvent is necessary.

[0004] U.S. Pat. No. 6,135,122 discloses a self adhesive hair weft extension and method for securing the same. The hair weft is formed by interweaving hair with fibers to form a weave end. A bonding composition is applied to one side of the weave end to form a strip of adhesive. A release strip covers the strip of contact adhesive to this side of the weave end. The release strip, once removed, allows the hair weft to be attached to a section of natural hair on the head of an individual. The use of polyvinyl cholride at the bonding agent is disclosed. As with U.S. Pat. No. 5,868,145, the removal of such a hair weft would require the use of acetone or some other suitable chemical solvent.

[0005] U.S. Pat. No. 5,813,418 discloses a hair clip device that attaches to a persons head without requiring sewing or gluing. The hair clip includes a comb element and a cover element. The comb element attaches to the user's existing hair, and the cover element “Ziplocs” (™) with a locking guard element to hold the added hair into place. This hair clip device is first placed on the users head, and then the additional hair is added to the clip portion. This device, while not requiring gluing the additional hair to the person's natural hair, is not a simple device and results in higher manufacturing costs. Moreover, in one embodiment of the invention, a special key is used to remove the locking guard or the snaps of the hair clip device and the attached hair extensions.

OBJECTS AND SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] It is an object of the present invention to provide a hair attachment device which overcomes the foregoing problems.

[0007] It is another object of the present invention, to provide a simple, inexpensive hair attachment device which allows attachment of a hair weave to an individual's head without requiring the tedious use of glue or sewing.

[0008] Briefly stated, the present invention provides a hair weave attachment device having a plurality of pin-like protrusions extending from a flexible band. The flexible band provides a method for attaching the hair weave attachment device to a commercial hair weave. The pin-like protrusions provide a method for attaching the hair weave attachment device, having the hair weave attached thereto, to a wearer. The resulting hair weave can be easily attached and removed from the wearer. This provides a quick and easy method for changing hair styles without requiring any messy glue removers or the cutting of threads, which are required to remove hair weaves attached in the conventional manner.

[0009] According to an embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a hair weave attachment device for attaching a hair weave comprising a flexible band, a plurality of protrusions extending in substantially the same direction from the flexible band, the flexible band providing an attachment location for attaching the hair weave to the hair weave attachment device, and the plurality of protrusions providing means for attaching the hair weave, having the hair weave attachment device attached thereto, to a wearer.

[0010] According to another embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a method of attaching a hair weave to a wearer comprising providing a hair weave attachment device having a flexible band and a plurality of protrusions extending in substantially the same direction from the flexible band, attaching the hair weave to the flexible band of the hair weave attachment device, and attaching the hair weave, having the hair weave attachment device attached thereto, to a wearer, by placing the plurality of protrusions into hair of the wearer.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0016] Referring to FIG. 1, a flexible band 1 has a top strip 3 and a plurality of pin like protrusions 5 projecting from top strip 3 in substantially the same direction. A hair weave band 7 is attached, preferably be sewing, onto top strip 3.

[0017] Top strip 3 may be made of any flexible material, and is preferably a fabric band. Pin like protrusions 5 are also formed of any convenient flexible material and are either integral with top strip 3 or attached to top strip 3 by any convenient method.

[0018] The use of the hair weave attachment device according to the present invention is now described. An individual desiring to attach a hair weave for styling their hair chooses the hair color, length, texture, and the like. This hair is either pre-attached to flexible band 1, or may be attached to flexible band 1 in the salon, without requiring the customer's presence.

[0019] Referring to FIGS. 2 and 3, once the desired hair product is formed attached to the flexible band, the resulting hair weave is easily attached to the individual's head. Preferably, the individual simply braids their natural hair, either from side to side, or from front to back. Pin like protrusions 5 slide into these braids and secure the hair weave into place. Pin like protrusions 5 are provided in the configuration such that, when the hair weave is worn, the additional hair, in addition to the individual's natural hair, covers top strip 3 and pin like protrusions 5.

[0020] The pin like protrusions of the flexible band of the present invention attaches easily and securely to the individual's head, providing additional hair that may be cut and styled. The resulting hair weave may be removed from the individual's head quickly and simply without damaging their hair by cutting threads or dissolving glue. This allows the wearer to quickly and easily change hair styles, while saving time and costs, and avoiding possible hair damage that is likely with the conventional hair weave attachment methods.

Claims

1. A hair weave attachment device for attaching a hair weave comprising:

a flexible band;

a plurality of protrusions extending in substantially the same direction from said flexible band;

said flexible band providing an attachment location for attaching said hair weave to said hair weave attachment device; and

said plurality of protrusions providing means for attaching said hair weave, having said hair weave attachment device attached thereto, to a wearer.

2. The hair weave attachment device according to claim 1, wherein said flexible band is a fabric band.

3. The hair weave attachment device according to claim 2, wherein said plurality of protrusions are sewn into said fabric band to form said hair weave attachment device.

4. The hair weave attachment device according to claim 1, wherein said plurality of protrusions are a plurality of elastically deformable pins.

5. The hair weave attachment device according to claim 1, wherein said flexible band and said plurality of protrusions are formed integrally of a flexible material.

6. A method of attaching a hair weave to a wearer comprising:

providing a hair weave attachment device having a flexible band and a plurality of protrusions extending in substantially the same direction from said flexible band;

attaching said hair weave to said flexible band of said hair weave attachment device; and

attaching said hair weave, having said hair weave attachment device attached thereto, to a wearer, by placing said plurality of protrusions into hair of said wearer.

7. The method of attaching a hair weave according to claim 6, wherein said hair weave is attached to said flexible band by sewing said flexible band onto a weave band of said hair weave.
