Abstract

A luggage security system for preventing luggage items from being stolen or lost during travel. The luggage security system includes an elongate member having a flexible structure, a first connector attached to a first end of the elongate member, a lock device for securing the first connector to a first loop member on a piece of luggage, a second connector attached to a second end of the elongate member, a handle member attached to the second connector, and a clasp attached to the second end of the elongate member for selectively securing to a second loop member on the luggage.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0004] The present invention relates generally to luggage and more specifically it relates to a luggage security system for preventing luggage items from being stolen or lost during travel.

[0005] 2. Description of the Prior Art

[0006] Luggage devices have been in use for years and are typically comprised of suitcases, purses, briefcases, computer cases, and various other storage devices commonly utilized while traveling. Conventional luggage may typically be “locked” to prevent an unauthorized third-party from opening the luggage. However, between destinations, individuals must typically transport their luggage from one location to another thereby exposing them to the risk of theft or loss.

[0007] Conventional luggage does not provide a system for securely preventing the theft or loss of the luggage during manual transportation thereof by the user. Conventional luggage is highly susceptible to theft while an individual is physically transporting the luggage.

[0008] While these devices may be suitable for the particular purpose to which they address, they are not as suitable for preventing luggage items from being stolen during travel. Conventional luggage does not provide a suitable security system for preventing the theft or loss of luggage during physical transportation thereof.

[0009] In these respects, the luggage security system according to the present invention substantially departs from the conventional concepts and designs of the prior art, and in so doing provides an apparatus primarily developed for the purpose of preventing luggage items from being stolen during travel.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0010] In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of luggage now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a new luggage security system construction wherein the same can be utilized for preventing luggage items from being stolen during travel.

[0011] The general purpose of the present invention, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a new luggage security system that has many of the advantages of the luggage devices mentioned heretofore and many novel features that result in a new luggage security system which is not anticipated, rendered obvious, suggested, or even implied by any of the prior art luggage systems, either alone or in any combination thereof.

[0012] To attain this, the present invention generally comprises a flexible structure, a first connector attached to a first end of the elongate member, a lock device for securing the first connector to a first loop member on a piece of luggage, a second connector attached to a second end of the elongate member, a handle member attached to the second connector, and a clasp attached to the second end of the elongate member for selectively securing to a second loop member on the luggage.

[0013] There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the invention in order that the detailed description thereof may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the invention that will be described hereinafter and that will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

[0021] Another object is to provide a luggage security system that secures various personal articles such as but not limited to luggage, briefcases, bags and the like.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0031] Turning now descriptively to the drawings, in which similar reference characters denote similar elements throughout the several views, FIGS. 1 through 6 illustrate a luggage security system 10, which comprises a flexible structure, a first connector 30 attached to a first end 22 of the elongate member 20, a lock device 70 for securing the first connector 30 to a first loop member 16 on a piece of luggage 12, a second connector 40 attached to a second end 24 of the elongate member 20, a handle member 50 attached to the second connector 40, and a clasp 60 attached to the second end 24 of the elongate member 20 for selectively securing to a second loop member 18 on the luggage 12.

[0032] As shown in FIGS. 1, 2, 4 and 5 of the drawings, the elongate member 20 has an elongate and flexible structure. The elongate member 20 preferably has a length sufficient for the user to conveniently perform activities while still securing the luggage 12. A desirable length of the elongate member 20 is preferably at least two feet long, however, greater or less length may be utilized to construct the elongate member 20.

[0033] The elongate member 20 is preferably comprised of a chain structure having a plurality of interconnected links. The links are preferably comprised of a secure material such as but not limited to metal. The elongate member 20 may be comprised of a non-chain structure such as but not limited to a strap structure.

[0034] The elongate member 20 has a first end 22 and a second end 24. A first connector 30 is attached to the first end 22 of the elongate member 20 as best shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 of the drawings. The first connector 30 has a ring structure and preferably has a larger width than the elongate member 20 as further shown in FIG. 3 of the drawings. As shown in FIG. 3 of the drawings, a lock device 70 is positioned so as to removably secure the first connector 30 to the first loop member 16 of the luggage 12. The lock device 70 may be comprised of any well-known detachable lock that allows for the attachment of objects to one another such as but not limited to a padlock.

[0035] A second connector 40 is attached to the second end 24 of the elongate member 20 as best shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 of the drawings. The second connector 40 has a ring structure similar to the first connector 30 and preferably has a larger width than the elongate member 20 as further shown in FIG. 2 of the drawings.

[0036] As further shown in FIG. 2 of the drawings, a handle member 50 is attached to the second connector 40. The handle member 50 is a looped structure and is preferably comprised of a resilient and flexible material such as but not limited to leather, plastic or fabric. The handle member 50 preferably has a center opening sufficient in size to allow for the easy insertion and removal of the hand through thereof and to comfortably be retained upon the wrist 11 of the user as shown in FIG. 1 of the drawings. The handle member 50 has a base portion containing an aperture 52 extending completely through thereof for receiving the second connector 40 as shown in FIG. 2 of the drawings. The aperture 52 preferably is sufficient in size to allow for the rotation of the second connector 40 within the handle member 50.

[0037] As further shown in FIG. 2 of the drawings, a clasp 60 is attached to the second connector 40 adjacent to the handle member 50. The clasp 60 may be comprised of any releasable fastener device. The clasp 60 allows for the attachment of the second end 24 of the elongate member 20 to the second loop member 18 on the luggage 12 when the individual desires not to have the handle member 50 about their wrist 11. The user then is able to transport the luggage 12 by grasping both the strap 14 on the luggage 12 and the elongate member 20 as shown in FIG. 5.

[0038] As to a further discussion of the manner of usage and operation of the present invention, the same should be apparent from the above description. Accordingly, no further discussion relating to the manner of usage and operation will be provided.

Claims

1. A luggage security system removably attachable to an article of luggage, comprising:

an elongate member having a first end and a second end, wherein said elongate member is comprised of a flexible structure;

a lock device for selectively securing said first end of said elongate member to a first loop member on said luggage;

a handle member attached to said second end of said elongate member; and

a clasp attached to said second end of said elongate member for selectively securing said second end of said elongate member to a second loop member.

2. The luggage security system of claim 1, wherein said handle member has a looped structure.

3. The luggage security system of claim 2, wherein said handle member has a center opening sufficient in size to receive and remove a hand from said center opening.

4. The luggage security system of claim 2, wherein said handle member is comprised of a resilient and flexible material.

5. The luggage security system of claim 1, wherein said elongate member is comprised of a chain structure.

6. The luggage security system of claim 1, wherein said elongate member is at least two feet in length.

7. The luggage security system of claim 6, wherein said elongate member is comprised of a chain structure.

8. The luggage security system of claim 1, wherein said elongate member has a length sufficient to be secured to said first loop member and said second loop member.

9. The luggage security system of claim 1, wherein said handle member has an aperture within for receiving said second end of said elongate member.

10. The luggage security system of claim 9, wherein said aperture is sufficient in size for allowing movement of said second end within said handle member.

11. A luggage security system removably attachable to an article of luggage, comprising:

an elongate member having a first end and a second end, wherein said elongate member is comprised of a flexible structure;

a first connector attached to said first end of said elongate structure, wherein said first connector has a ring structure;

a lock device for selectively securing said first connector to a first loop member on said luggage;

a second connector attached to said second end of said elongate member, wherein said second connector has a ring structure;

a handle member attached to said connector; and

a clasp attached to said second connector for selectively securing said second end of said elongate member to a second loop member.

12. The luggage security system of claim 11, wherein said handle member has a looped structure.

13. The luggage security system of claim 12, wherein said handle member has a center opening sufficient in size to receive and remove a hand from said center opening.

14. The luggage security system of claim 12, wherein said handle member is comprised of a resilient and flexible material.

15. The luggage security system of claim 11, wherein said elongate member is comprised of a chain structure.

16. The luggage security system of claim 11, wherein said elongate member is at least two feet in length.

17. The luggage security system of claim 16, wherein said elongate member is comprised of a chain structure.

18. The luggage security system of claim 11, wherein said elongate member has a length sufficient to be secured to said first loop member and said second loop member.

19. The luggage security system of claim 11, wherein said handle member has an aperture within for receiving said second connector.

20. The luggage security system of claim 19, wherein said aperture is sufficient in size for allowing movement of said second connector within said handle member.
