Abstract

A cosmetic case including a cosmetic material and a base including a first cavity having the cosmetic material therein. The cosmetic case further including a lid that is secured to the base. Both the base and lid having exposed surfaces that are covered in a cloth material. A first magnetic material secured to the base and a second magnetic material secured to the lid that urge the lid to a position covering the cosmetic material. A first magnetic material is secured to the base and a second magnetic material is secured to the lid, each of which urge the lid to a position covering the cosmetic material.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention is directed to a cosmetic case including a base having a cosmetic material therein and a lid. The base and the lid include exposed surfaces that are covered in an aesthetically pleasing cloth material.

[0002] The general concept of a cosmetic case having a base and a lid hingedly secured to the base is known in the art. The conventional cosmetic case is generally used to transport and store cosmetic materials, is compact in size and lightweight. Conventional cosmetic cases are generally constructed of an injection molded, rigid plastic base and lid that are mechanically hinged to each other in a clamshell type configuration. The aesthetic or ornamental appearance of the conventional cosmetic case is dominated by the exposed surface appearance of the rigid plastic lid and base, which may become scratched and gouged through normal use. In addition, the ornamental appearance is limited to the shades and textures that may be produced using the plastic injection molding process. The conventional cosmetic case generally employs a mechanical hook and latch arrangement to secure the lid adjacent the base and hold the case in a closed position. The mechanical hook and latch arrangement is oftentimes spring loaded to bias the hook to a grasping position. Through normal use, the hook and latch arrangements often fails because of failure of the spring or latch such that the case is not held in a closed position during storage, which may cause the contents of a user's purse to be exposed to cosmetic materials. In addition, the conventional latch may become inadvertently opened in a user's purse and generally does not return to a closed position unless the case is physically closed by a user.

[0003] The cosmetic case of the present invention is designed to overcome the limited ornamental appearance of conventional cosmetic cases by providing an aesthetically pleasing, flexible and functional case. Specifically, the cosmetic case of the present invention includes exposed surfaces that are wrapped in an aesthetically pleasing cloth material. As well as being aesthetically pleasing, the cloth material is inherently flexible in that any number of cloth materials having various textures and appearances may be used to cover exposed surfaces of the cosmetic case and produce a unique ornamental appearance.

[0004] In another aspect, the cosmetic case of the present invention includes magnetic materials secured to a base and a lid that urge the lid toward the base and a closed position to cover the cosmetic material. The attraction of the magnetic materials toward each other hold the lid adjacent to the base, thereby covering the cosmetic material in a storage or closed position such that the cosmetic material is not exposed. Use of the magnetic materials is inherently simple and reliable in that the magnetic materials do not include mechanical hooks or latches that may fail through repeated usage. In addition, the magnetic materials may be covered by the cloth material and continue to operate, thereby permitting a consistent surface appearance that is aesthetically pleasing and functional. Further, if the cosmetic case inadvertently becomes opened in a user's purse, the magnetic materials may urge the case to the closed position without attention from the user.

[0005] In yet another aspect, the present invention is directed to a cosmetic case that is double-sided. Both the first and second sides of the double-sided case contain a cosmetic material. The double-sided cosmetic case provides flexibility for a user, in that multiple cosmetic materials may be placed into a single cosmetic case and exposed from opposite sides of the case. The double-sided cosmetic case also employs two mirrors that may be used to observe the application of the cosmetic materials when either of the sides of the case is in an open position.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] Briefly stated, the present invention comprises a cosmetic case for transporting a cosmetic material. The cosmetic case includes the cosmetic material, a base and a lid. The base has exposed surfaces and includes a first cavity having the cosmetic material therein. The lid also has exposed surfaces and is secured to the base. The exposed surfaces of the base and lid are covered in a cloth material.

[0007] In a second aspect, the present invention is comprised of a cosmetic case including a cosmetic material, a base, a lid, a first magnetic material and a second magnetic material. The base includes a cavity having the cosmetic material therein. The lid is secured to the base and is pivotable between a first position covering the cosmetic material and a second position exposing the cosmetic material. The first magnetic material is secured to the base and the second magnetic material is secured to the lid. The first and second magnetic materials urge the lid toward the first position.

[0008] In a third aspect, the present invention is comprised of a cosmetic case and includes a first cosmetic material, a second cosmetic material, a base, a first lid and a second lid. The base includes first and second voids having the first and second cosmetic materials therein. The first lid is secured to the base and is pivotable between a first position covering the first cosmetic material and a second position exposing the first cosmetic material. The second lid is secured to the base and is pivotable between a closed position covering the second cosmetic material and an open position exposing the second cosmetic material.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0017] Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like numerals indicate like elements throughout, there is shown in FIGS. 1 through 3 a first preferred embodiment of a cosmetic case, generally designated 10, for transporting a cosmetic material 12 in accordance with the present invention.

[0018] Referring to FIGS. 1-3, in the first preferred embodiment, the cosmetic case 10 includes the cosmetic material 12, a base 14 and a lid 16. The base 14 includes a first cavity 14a having the cosmetic material 12 therein. The lid 16 is secured to the base 14 and both the lid 16 and base 14 have exposed surfaces 18 (see FIG. 3) that are covered by a cloth material 20. In the preferred embodiment, the base 14 and lid 16 have generally picture frame-shapes. To cover the base 14 and lid 16 with the cloth material 20, a predetermined amount of cloth material 20 is arranged and is wrapped around the exposed surfaces 18 of the base 14 and lid 16. That is, the cloth material 20 is positioned on the base 14 and lid 16 to cover surfaces that will be exposed when the cosmetic case 10 is fully assembled. The cloth material 20 is folded or cut such that it covers the exposed surfaces 18 and is secured to the base 14 and lid 16, generally through adhesive bonding. The cloth material 20 is not limited to being adhesively bonded to the exposed surfaces 18 and may be mechanically fastened, tacked, clamped or otherwise secured to the exposed surfaces 18 such that the cloth material 20 adheres to the exposed surfaces 18. It is preferred that the cloth material 20 be selected from the group consisting of faux-leather, suede, leather denim, polyester and cotton. However, the cloth material 20 may be comprised of any material that is aesthetically pleasing and may be secured to exposed surfaces 18 of the lid 16 and base 14.

[0019] It is also preferred that a mirror 22 is secured to the lid 16 such that a reflective face of the mirror 22 is exposed when the lid 16 is in a second or open position (see FIG. 1). Preferably, the mirror 22 is adhesively secured to the to the lid 16, however, the mirror 22 may be clamped, mechanically fastened or otherwise permanently (or removably) secured to the lid such that the mirror 22 is attached to the lid 16 during normal use. The mirror 22 is preferred for the convenience of viewing application of the cosmetic material 12 by a user. Those having ordinary skill in the art will realize from this disclosure that the mirror 22 is a preferred option. For example, the mirror 22 may be eliminated and the cloth material 20 may be secured over the surface of the lid 16 that is covered by the mirror 22 as shown in FIG. 1. Alternatively, a second cosmetic material or a cosmetic application tool (not shown) may be secured to the lid 16 in place of the mirror 22.

[0020] It is also preferred that the cosmetic case 10 of the present invention include a first hinge 24 that secures the lid 16 to the base 14. The first hinge 24 also includes exposed surfaces 18 that are covered in the cloth material 20 in the fully assembled condition. In the preferred embodiment, the first hinge 24 has a generally flat rectangular shape with a pair of fold lines 24d, 24e defining three distinct areas of the first hinge 24 including a hinge lid section 24a, a hinge middle section 24b and a hinge base section 24c. The fold lines 24d, 24e define sections of the hinge 24 that operate as living hinges and permit pivotal movement of the base 14 and lid 16 about the fold lines 24d, 24e relative to each other. Preferably, the hinge lid section 24a is secured to the lid 16 and the hinge base section 24c is secured to the base 14, generally by adhesively bonding the hinge lid section 24a and hinge base section 24c to the lid 16 and base 14. The bonding of the above-listed sections are not limited to adhesive bonding and may be secured to each other by mechanical fastening, clamping or any securing method that holds the above-listed components in position relative to each other. Preferably, the base 14 and lid 16 are secured to the first hinge 24 at surfaces that are not covered by or are only partially covered by the cloth material 20 such that the base 14, lid 16, hinge lid section 24a and hinge base section 24c are secured in facing engagement to each other. The plan view peripheral shapes of the lid hinge section 24a, lid 16, base hinge section 24c and base 14 preferably have the same shape such that, when assembled, the lid hinge section 24a and base hinge section 24c close one end of the picture frame shape of the base 14 and lid 16. In addition, the above-described shapes result in a generally consistent, smooth surface appearance of the fully assembled cosmetic case 10.

[0021] In the preferred embodiment, the base 14, lid 16 and first hinge 24 are constructed of a lightweight, easily formable, generally rigid material such as solid cardboard (as opposed to corrugated cardboard). The cardboard is preferred because of its low cost, lightweight and ease of manufacture. One skilled in the art will realize that cardboard is particularly suited for such an application because of its resilience, lightweight and ability to accept the cloth material 20 on its exposed surfaces 18 through adhesively bonding, mechanically fastening or alternately securing the cloth material 20 to the cardboard construction. The cardboard is also particularly suited for use as the living hinge along the fold lines 24d, 24e of the first hinge 24. The resilience and elasticity of the cardboard permits inclusion of the fold lines 24d, 24e and pivotal movement of the base 14 and lid 16 relative to each other about the fold lines 24d, 24e. Further, the first hinge 24 is aided in it's pivotal movement by the cloth material 20, which is also suited to living hinge constructions and provides support to the fold lines 24d, 24e. The base 14, lid 16 and first hinge 24 are not limited to cardboard material constructions and may be comprised of other cellulose based material or polymeric or metallic material, preferably sheet material, or any material that is resilient, generally lightweight and able to accept a cloth material 20 upon its exposed surfaces.

[0022] In the first preferred embodiment, the lid 16 is pivotable between the first or closed position (see FIG. 2) covering the cosmetic material 12 and the second or open position (see FIG. 1) exposing the cosmetic material 12. As was discussed above, the first hinge 24, which is generally comprised of the cardboard material, secures the lid 16 to the base 14 while permitting the lid 16 to pivot between the first or closed position and second or open position. The first hinge 24 is not limited to cardboard constructions and may be comprised of a butterfly hinge or a pintle hinge that may be covered by the cloth material 20. One having ordinary skill in the art will realize that the first hinge 24 may be constructed of any hinge-type construction that permits pivoting between the first position and the second position for a number of cycles during normal use.

[0023] In another aspect, the cosmetic case 10 includes a first magnetic material 26 secured to the base 14 and a second magnetic material 28 secured to the lid 16. The first and second magnetic materials 26, 28 urge the lid 16 toward the base 14 and first or closed position. It is preferred that the first and second magnetic materials 26 and 28 be comprised of permanent magnets. However, one having ordinary skill in the art will realize that either of the first or second magnetic materials 26, 28 may be comprised of a magnet while the other of the first or second magnetic materials 26, 28 is comprised of an electrically conductive material that is attracted to the magnetic material. The key being that the first and second magnetic materials 26, 28 are attracted to each other, thereby urging the lid 16 toward the first or closed position to cover the cosmetic material 12 when the cosmetic material 12 is not in use. The first and second magnetic materials 26, 28 not only urge the lid 16 toward the first position but aid in holding the lid 16 in the first or closed position during storage. Accordingly, the first and second magnetic materials 26, 28 aid in holding the cosmetic case 10 in the first or closed position to avoid inadvertent exposure of the cosmetic material 12 and mirror 22. For example, when storing the cosmetic case 10 in a purse it is desirable that the cosmetic case 10 and lid 16 remain in the first or closed position. Inadvertent opening of the lid 16 to the second or open position, while stored in a user's purse, exposes other items within the purse to the cosmetic material 12 and possible displacement of the cosmetic material 12 from the first cavity 14a of the base 14.

[0024] Those of ordinary skill in the art will understand from this disclosure that the cosmetic case 10 is not limited to the first and second magnetic materials 26 and 28 to retain the lid 16 in the first position. For example, a conventional clasp or latch may be used to secure the lid 16 in the first or closed position relative to the base 14. However, the first and second magnetic materials 26 and 28 have the advantage of urging the lid 16 toward the base 14 even when the lid 16 is not in facing engagement with the base 14 because of the magnetic attraction between the first and second magnetic materials 26, 28. Further, the first and second magnetic materials 26, 28 are generally more reliable than mechanical latches that are well known in the art. Specifically, the first and second magnetic materials 26, 28 will generally not fail due to fatigue or overloading.

[0025] In the preferred embodiment, the first and second magnetic materials 26, 28 are positioned between the exposed surfaces 18 and the cloth material 20. Therefore, in the assembled condition, the cloth material 20 not only covers the exposed surfaces 18 but also covers the first and second magnetic materials 26, 28. Covering of the first and second magnetic materials 26, 28 provides an aesthetically pleasing and continuous surface appearance to the fully assembled cosmetic case 10. In addition, the first and second magnetic materials 26, 28 continue to be attracted to each other through the cloth material 20. Accordingly, the first and second magnetic materials 26, 28 continue to urge the lid 16 toward the first or closed position. The first and second magnetic materials 26, 28 are not limited to positioning between the exposed surfaces 18 and cloth material 20 and may be secured to the base 14 and lid 16 on external surfaces of the cloth material 20.

[0026] The cosmetic case 10 is assembled by cutting the shape of the base 14, lid 16 and first hinge 24 from cardboard sheets having a predetermined thickness or from an alternate appropriate material. As discussed above, the base 14 and lid 16 have a generally picture frame shape with the base 14, generally being thicker than the lid 16 and the first hinge 24 has a generally flat, thin, rectangular shape that is sized to be secured to the base 14 and lid 16. The first hinge 24 is bent along the fold lines 24d, 24e to accommodate the pivotal movement of the first hinge 24 and securing of the base 12 and lid 16 to the hinge lid section 24a and hinge base section 24c. The exposed surfaces 18 of the base 14, lid 16 and first hinge 24, are identified. For instance, the surface of the lid 16 secured to the hinge lid section 24a is not an exposed surface 18 because it is covered by the hinge lid section 24a in the fully assembled condition and the surface of the hinge lid section 24a secured to the mirror 22 in the fully assembled condition is not an exposed surface 18 because it is covered by the mirror 22. The cloth material 20 is introduced onto the exposed surfaces 18 such that the cloth material 20 covers each of the exposed surfaces 18 and adheres to the general shape of the exposed surfaces 18. The cloth material 20 is secured to the exposed surfaces 18 preferably by adhesively bonding. The base 14, lid 16 and first hinge 24, with their exposed surfaces 18 covered in the cloth material 20, are then secured relative to each other, generally in the arrangement shown in FIG. 1 and preferably by adhesively bonding the base 14, lid 16 and first hinge 24 at non-exposed surfaces. The cosmetic material 12 is inserted into the first cavity 14a of the base 14 and the mirror 22 is secured to the lid 16 to complete the assembly.

[0027] Preferably, the cosmetic material 12 is held in a cosmetic pan 12a that provides support for the cosmetic material 12 and has a shape that is complimentary to the first cavity 14a. The cosmetic material 12 and pan 12a are generally force fit into the first cavity 14a and may be adhesively bonded to the base 14 and/or the hinge base section 24c to secure the cosmetic material 12 and pan 12a to the base 14. In addition, the mirror 22 is preferably secured to the lid 16 by placing the mirror 22 into the picture frame shape of the lid 16 and adhesively bonding the mirror 22 to the lid 16 and/or the hinge lid section 24a. The cosmetic material 12 and mirror 22 are not limited to adhesive bonding to secure the cosmetic material 12 and mirror 22 to the base 14 and lid 16 and may be mechanically fastened, clamped or otherwise secured using methods that are well known in the art.

[0028] In operation, a user may store the cosmetic case 10 in the first or closed position, shown in FIG. 2, such that the cosmetic material 12 and mirror 22 are not exposed to external manipulation. That is, in the first or closed position, the mirror 22 and cosmetic material 12 are generally protected from exposure to external objects or manipulation. To use the cosmetic material 12, the lid 16 is pivoted about the hinge 24 at the fold lines 24d, 24e to the second or open position, which also exposes the mirror 22. The cosmetic material 12 may then be accessed for application using a finger or a cosmetic application tool. Application of the cosmetic material 12 may be viewed in the reflective face of the mirror 22. At the conclusion of the application, the lid 16 is returned to the second position such that the mirror 22 and cosmetic material 12 are again protected from external access for storage purposes. The cosmetic case 10 is urged toward and held in the second or closed position by the magnetic materials 26, 28.

[0029] Referring to FIGS. 4-6, in a second preferred embodiment, a cosmetic case 10′ includes a first cosmetic material 30 and a second cosmetic material 32. It is preferred that the first and second cosmetic materials 30 and 32 are selected from a group consisting of powder, foundation, blush, concealer, eye shadow, lipstick and lip gloss. However, the first and second cosmetic materials 30 and 32 may be comprised of any cosmetic material that can be adapted for use with the cosmetic case 10′ of the present invention.

[0030] The cosmetic case 10′ of the second preferred embodiment also includes a generally picture frame shaped base 34 having a generally cubic-shaped first void 36 and a generally cubic-shaped second void 38 (see FIG. 6). The first and second voids 36, 38 receive the first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32 therein. In a preferred embodiment, the first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32 are superposed with respect to each other within the first and second voids 36, 38. However, the first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32 are not limited to being superposed with respect to each other. For example, a stiffening member (not shown) of the base 34 may extend between the first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32 in an assembled condition and/or the first and second voids 36, 38 may be of a different size or shape than the other of the first and second voids 36, 38 necessitating a different sized first or second cosmetic material 30, 32. For example, the first void 36 may have a thin cylindrical shape while the second void 38 has a generally thick cubic shape where the first void 36 accepts a generally thin, cylindrically-shaped first cosmetic material 30 and the second void 38 accepts a generally thick, cubic-shaped second cosmetic material 32. In addition, the first void 36 may accept a plurality of cosmetic materials (not shown) that, as a whole fit, side-by-side into the first void 36 while the second void 38 accepts the second cosmetic material 32 and vice versa. The shape and size of the first and second voids 36, 38 and first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32 are designed to be flexible to adapt to the preferences of a user.

[0031] The cosmetic case 10′ of the second preferred embodiment further includes a first generally picture frame-shaped lid 40 secured to the base 34 that is pivotable between a first or closed position covering the first cosmetic material 30 (see FIG. 5) and a second or open position exposing the first cosmetic material 30 (see FIG. 4). The cosmetic case 10′ also includes a second generally picture frame-shaped lid 42 secured to the base 34 that is pivotable between a closed position (see FIG. 5) covering the second cosmetic material 32 and an open position (see FIG. 4) exposing the second cosmetic material 32. The first and second lids 40, 42 of the second preferred embodiment are secured to the base 34 generally by adhesive bonding and are pivotable with respect to the base 34 in much the same manner as the lid 16 and base 14 of the first preferred embodiment.

[0032] The cosmetic case 10′ also includes a first generally thin, rectangular hinge 44 securing the first lid 40 to the base 34 and a second generally thin, rectangular hinge 46 securing the second lid 42 to the base 34. The first and second hinges 44, 46 operate in a similar manner to the first hinge 24. Specifically, the first hinge 44 is divided into three sections by fold lines 44d, 44e including a first lid hinge section 44a, a first middle hinge section 44b and a first base hinge section 44c. In addition, the second hinge 46 is divided into three sections by fold lines 46d, 46e including a second lid hinge section 46a, a second middle hinge section 44b and a second base hinge section 46c. The fold lines 44d, 44e, 46d, 46e act as living hinges and permit pivotal movement of the first and second hinges 44, 46. The base hinge sections 44c, 46c are secured to opposing sides of the base 34 and include generally thin cubic holes 59, 61 that accommodate access to the first and second voids 36, 38 in a fully assembled condition. In addition, the lid hinge sections 44a, 46a are secured to the first and second lids 40, 42 respectively. The first and second hinges 44, 46 are preferably secured to the base 34 and first and second lids 40, 42 by adhesive bonding but may be secured using any of the above-described securing methods. The first and second hinges 44, 46 are also preferably comprised of the cardboard material, which provides a generally lightweight hinge that is resilient, has a relatively low cost and is adaptable for use as a living hinge. The first and second hinges 44, 46 are not limited to the cardboard material similar to the first hinge 24 and may be comprised of a butterfly hinge and/or a pintle hinge. The key is that the first and second hinges 44, 46 are resilient for normal use of the cosmetic case 10′ and permit pivoting of the first and second lids 40, 42 with respect to the base 34 from the first and closed positions to the second and open positions.

[0033] Similar to the cosmetic case 10 of the first preferred embodiment, the cosmetic case 10′ of the second preferred embodiment includes exposed surfaces 48 that are covered in a cloth material 50. Specifically, each of the base 34, first lid 40, second lid 42, first hinge 44, and second hinge 46 have exposed surfaces 48 that are covered in the cloth material 50 in a fully assembled condition. For example, inner sides of the base 34 that are covered by the cosmetic materials 30, 32 in an assembled conditions are not exposed surfaces, while opposing outer sides of the base 34 are exposed surfaces 48 that are covered by the cloth material 50 in the assembled condition. Accordingly, in the fully assembled condition each of the surfaces that may be visually observed by a user is covered in the cloth material 50. Similar to the cosmetic case 10 of the first preferred embodiment, the cloth material 50 of the cosmetic case 10′ of the second preferred embodiment provides an aesthetically pleasing, flexible and durable surface appearance that is flexible to a user's taste.

[0034] The cosmetic case 10′ further includes a first magnetic material 52 secured to the base 34, a second magnetic material 54 secured to the first lid 40, a third magnetic material 56 secured to the base 34 and a fourth magnetic material 58 secured to the second lid 42. The first and second magnetic materials 52, 54 urge the first lid 40 toward the first position covering the first cosmetic material 30 while the third and fourth magnetic materials 56, 58 urge the second lid 42 toward the closed position covering the second cosmetic material 32. In a storage or closed position, shown in FIG. 5, the first, second, third and fourth magnetic materials 52, 54, 56, 58 urge toward and hold the first and second lids 40, 42 adjacent to the base 34 in the storage position. In the storage position the first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32 are not exposed and the cosmetic materials 30, 32 are not accessible by a user.

[0035] It is also preferred that the cosmetic case 10′ of the second preferred embodiment include a first mirror 60 secured to the first lid 40 and a second mirror 62 secured to the second lid 42. The first and second mirrors 60, 62 include reflective faces that are exposed when the first lid 40 is in the second position and the second lid 42 is in the open position as shown in FIG. 4. The mirrors 60, 62 are used for viewing the application of one of the cosmetic materials 30, 32 and are secured to the first and second lids 40, 42 and/or the lid hinge sections 44a, 46a generally by adhesive bonding or alternately through a securing method that is able to secure the mirrors 60, 62 to the cosmetic case 10′ during normal use. As with the above-discussed cosmetic case 10, the first and second mirrors 60, 62 are option and either or both may be replaced by an additional cosmetic material or a cosmetic application tool or a cloth covering without affecting the function of the cosmetic case 10′.

[0036] It is preferred that the first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32 be provided in cosmetic pans 30a, 32a. The cosmetic pans 30a, 32a aid in containing the first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32 in a predetermined shape for insertion into the first and second voids 36, 38 and during use. The cosmetic pans 30a, 32a are generally well known in the art. In the preferred embodiment the cosmetic pans 30a, 32a are superposed with respect to each other in an assembled condition, as shown in FIG. 6. The cosmetic pans 30a, 32a, therefore, prevent intermingling of the first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32. The cosmetic pans 30a, 32a also provide support and stability to the first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32 to prevent cracking or breakup. However, the first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32 are not limited to configurations where they are disposed in the cosmetic pans 30a, 32a. For example, the first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32 may be inserted directly into the first and second voids 36, 38 where the first and second cosmetic materials 30, 32 are in facing engagement with each other.

[0037] It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that changes can be made to the embodiments described above without departing from the broad inventive concept thereof. For instance, the cosmetic materials 12, 30, 32 may take on generally any shape that the cosmetic materials 12, 30, 32 may be molded into and inserted into one of the first cavity 14a, first void 36 or second void 38. In addition, the cloth materials 20, 50 are not limited to the above-listed materials but may be comprised of any material that is aesthetically pleasing and may be secured to the exposed surfaces 18, 48. It is understood, therefore, that this invention is not limited to the particular embodiments disclosed, but is intended to cover modifications within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.

Claims

1. A cosmetic case comprising:

a cosmetic material;

a base including a first cavity having the cosmetic material therein, said base having exposed surfaces; and

a lid having exposed surfaces and being secured to the base, the exposed surfaces of the base and lid being covered in a cloth material.

2. The cosmetic case of claim 1 further comprising:

a first hinge securing the lid to the base, the first hinge having exposed surfaces covered in the cloth material, the lid being pivotable between a first position covering the cosmetic material and a second position exposing the cosmetic material.

3. The cosmetic case of claim 2 wherein the base, lid and first hinge are constructed of a cardboard material.

4. The cosmetic case of claim 2 wherein a material of the base, lid and first hinge is selected from the group consisting of cardboard, polymeric sheet and metallic sheet.

5. The cosmetic case of claim 2 wherein a mirror is secured to the lid such that a reflective face of the mirror is exposed when the lid is in the second position.

6. The cosmetic case of claim 1 wherein the cloth material is selected from the group consisting of faux-leather, suede, leather, denim, polyester and cotton.

7. A cosmetic case comprising:

a cosmetic material;

a base including a cavity having the cosmetic material therein;

a lid secured to the base, the lid being pivotable between a first position covering the cosmetic material and a second position exposing the cosmetic material;

a first magnetic material secured to the base; and

a second magnetic material secured to the lid wherein the first and second magnetic materials urge the lid toward the first position.

8. The cosmetic case of claim 7 wherein the first and second magnetic materials are comprised of magnets.

9. The cosmetic case of claim 7 wherein the base and lid have exposed surfaces, the exposed surfaces and magnetic materials being covered by a cloth material.

10. A cosmetic case comprising:

a first and second cosmetic materials;

a base including first and second voids having the first and second cosmetic materials respectively therein;

a first lid secured to the base and being pivotable between a first position covering the first cosmetic material and a second position exposing the first cosmetic material; and

a second lid secured to the base and being pivotable between a closed position covering the second cosmetic material and an open position exposing the second cosmetic material.

11. The cosmetic case of claim 10 further comprising:

a first hinge securing the first lid to the base and

a second hinge securing the second lid to the base.

12. The cosmetic case of claim 11 wherein the base, first lid, second lid, first hinge and second hinge have exposed surfaces, the exposed surfaces being covered in a cloth material.

13. The cosmetic case of claim 10 wherein the first cosmetic material and the second cosmetic material are superposed with respect to each other.

14. The cosmetic case of claim 13 wherein the first and second cosmetic materials are selected from the group consisting of powder, foundation, blush, concealer, eyeshadow, lipstick and lip loss.

15. The cosmetic case of claim 13 further comprising:

a first magnetic material secured to the base;

a second magnetic material secured to the first lid wherein the first and second magnetic materials urge the first lid toward first position;

a third magnetic material secured to the base; and

a fourth magnetic material secured to the second lid wherein the second and third magnetic materials urge the second lid toward the closed position.
