Favor making kit

Abstract

A kit to assembling a gift favor for a party. The kit includes a base having an upwardly extending stem with a decorative figurine. The decorative figurine is designed to compliment a theme of the party. The kit also includes a cover piece for forming an outer shell around the base and upwardly extending stem. Finally, the kit includes a tag for identifying a guests name and a tie for securing the components of the kit together.

Description

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates in general to a favor kit, and more particularly, to a kit for making a party favor or gift.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] When one goes to a birthday party, a wedding shower, a baby shower, or other special occasion, the hostess generally provides the party guests with a thank you favor. Typical examples of favors are packaged candy, such as mints or chocolate, candles or healthcare products.

[0003] If the hostess wants to tie the theme of the party into the thank you favor, the hostess may choose to package the favor in decorative wrapping paper or a gift bag. Often the hostess attempts to make or assemble their own party favors. This requires a large amount of time to create the favor and purchase the materials to assemble it. Therefore, there exists a need for a favor making kit that is easy to assemble and is available in many variations for a variety of theme parties.

[0004] Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a favor making kit that is simple to assemble and is available in many variations to match the theme of various parties.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0005] The present invention is directed to a kit for assembling a gift favor for a party. The kit includes a base having an upwardly extending stem with a decorative figurine positioned on the top. The decorative figurine compliments the theme of the party. The kit also includes a cover piece for forming an outer shell around the base and upwardly extending stem. Finally, the kit includes a tag for identifying a guest's name and a tie for securing the components of the kit together.

[0006] The present invention is also directed to a method for assembling a party favor. The method includes the steps of placing a cover piece on a flat surface and positioning a base having a decorative figurine in the center of the cover piece. The gift favor, such as candy, nuts or potpourri, is placed around the base. Next, the cover piece is gathered around the gift favor and tied together with a ribbon.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0014] The favor kit of the present invention includes a number of components that are easily assembled to form a decorative favor that may be used as a thank you gift for the guest attending the birthday party, wedding shower, baby shower or other special occasion.

[0015] The favor kit includes a base member indicated in general at 10 in FIG. 1. The base member has a circular bottom portion 12 and a partially conical support 14 extending upwardly from the circular bottom portion 12. The bottom portion 12 may also be formed from various shapes, such as rectangular or elliptical, as long as the bottom portion is capable of resting on a flat surface. The support 14 has a first diameter D1, a second diameter D2 with side members 15 therebetween. The first diameter D1 is larger than the second diameter D2 such that the side member 15 tapers inwardly as it extends from the first diameter D1 to the second diameter D2. Alternatively, the support 14 may also be formed from various shapes, such as spherical or cubical. A cylindrical stem 16 extends upwardly from the center of the conical support 14. The stem 16 may have a variety of alternative cross-section shapes, such as rectangular or square.

[0016] The base member 10 also includes a decorative figurine 18, illustrated in phantom in FIG. 1, that is attached to the top portion 17 of the cylindrical stem 16. The decorative figurine 18 can vary depending on the theme of the party or special occasion. For example, if the party is a wedding shower, the decorative figurine may be a flower, a wedding cake, bells, a dove or a ice bucket with a bottle of champagne. If the party is a baby shower, the figurine may be a baby girl, a baby boy or a stuffed animal.

[0017] The base member 10 is preferably molded from a plastic material. In addition, the base member 10 is preferably molded as one piece. Alternatively, the base may be formed from molded multiple pieces. For example, the decorative figurine may be molded separately from the bottom portion, conical support and stem of the base member. The decorative figurine would then be secured to the stem of the base member.

[0018] As illustrated in FIG. 2, the favor kit also includes a circular cover piece 22 for forming the outer shell of the favor. The circular cover 22 is a piece of material that has an outer edge 24. Although the piece of material is circular, it may be formed from other shapes. The piece of material is at least partially transparent or translucent so that the contents of the gift are revealed. Also the material forming the cover piece may have little holes therein, such as those present in a piece of tulle. Alternatively, the cover may be formed form a decorative piece of cellophane wrap.

[0019] The edge 24 is preferably formed from a ribbon that it stitched to the piece of material forming the cover piece. The ribbon edge 24 provides a consistent finish for the circular cover and a decorative edge for the assembled favor. The ribbon edge 24 may be smooth or it may have glitter or beads attached thereto. Alternatively, the edge 24 may be formed from a pipe cleaner or any other material available in strands.

[0020] The favor kit also includes a tie 26, as illustrated in FIG. 3, and a gift tag 28, as illustrated in FIG. 4. The tie 26 preferably matches or compliments the outer edge 24 of circular cover 22. Thus, the tie is typically formed from the same ribbon material as the outer edge 24. The gift tag 28 is illustrated as a rectangular tag having a opening 30 therethrough. The opening is for receiving the tie which will secure the tag to the favor. The gift tag 28 may have a decoration thereon to compliment the theme of the party. The tag 28 may also be formed from various shapes but preferably with an area large enough to place the name of a party guest.

[0021] FIGS. 5 and 6 illustrate favors that have been assembled from the favor kit of the present invention. FIG. 5 illustrates a typical favor having a flower as the decorative figurine which would be appropriate as a wedding shower favor. FIG. 6 illustrates a typical favor having baby girl as the decorative figurine which would be appropriate as a baby shower favor.

[0022] The favors are easily assembled from the components of the flavor kit. To assemble a favor, the user places the circular cover 22 on a flat surface. Next, the user places the base member 10 in the center of the circular cover. The gift items may now be added. Typically, candy pieces, such as mints or chocolate, nuts or potpourri are gift items that may be added to the circular cover. The gift items are arranged on the cover piece around the bottom portion, the conical support and possibly the stem of the base member.

[0023] After the items of the gift are arranged, the user gathers the circular cover around the gift item and the base member. The gathered cover is then tied via the ribbon tie 26. Next, the ribbon tie 26 may be inserted in the opening 30 of the gift tag 28. The ribbon tie 26 is then knotted to secure the gift tag 28 to the favor.

[0024] The ends of the ribbon are preferably tied into a bow. Finally, the layers of the gathered edges of the circular cover are carefully arranged such that the edges are spread apart to create the decorative favor illustrated in FIGS. 5 and 6.

[0025] While the preferred embodiments of the invention have been shown and described, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of which is defined by the appended claims.

Claims

1. A kit for assembling a gift favor for a party, the kit comprising the following components:

a base member having an upwardly extending stem with a decorative figurine, wherein the decorative figurine is adapted to compliment a theme of the party;

a cover piece for forming an outer shell around the base and the upwardly extending stem; and

a tie for securing the components of the kit together.

2. The kit of claim 1, further comprising a tag for identifying a guest's name.

3. The kit of claim 1, wherein the base has a circular bottom portion and a support section extending from the circular bottom portion.

4. The kit of claim 3, wherein the stem extends upwards from the support section.

5. The kit of claim 3, wherein the support section has a first diameter and a second diameter and tapered sides that extend from the first diameter to the second diameter, the first diameter being large than the second diameter.

6. The kit of claim 1, wherein the decorative figurine is selected from the group consisting of a cake, a bell, a dove, a flower, a champagne bottle, a baby and an animal.

7. The kit of claim 1, wherein the cover piece is a fabric material.

8. The kit of claim 1, wherein the cover piece is cellophane.

9. The kit of claim 1, wherein the cover piece has an outer edge, the outer edge is selected from the group consisting of ribbon, glitter, beads and pipe cleaner.

10. The kit of claim 1, wherein the cover piece of material is circular, the circular cover is adapted to be gathered and arranged in a decorative fashion.

11. The kit of claim 1, wherein the cover piece is rectangular.

12. The kit of claim 1, wherein the gift favor comprises candy, nuts, potpourri or a combination thereof.

13. The kit of claim 1, wherein the cover piece is at least partially translucent or transparent.

14. A method for assembling a party favor, the method comprising the steps of:

placing a cover piece on a flat surface;

positioning a base have a decorative figurine in the center of the cover piece;

placing gift items around the base;

gathering an outer edge of the cover piece up around the gifts items; and

tying the gathered cover piece together with a ribbon.

15. The method of claim 14, further comprising the step of:

threading a tag on the ribbon for identifying a party guest.

16. The method of claim 14, further comprising the step of

pulling the outer edge of the cover piece above a gathering point and

spreading the layers of the cover piece to provide a decorative party favor.
