Herculean abode tower system (HATS)

This invention relates to a method of connecting precast components to each other. More precisely it is a coupling system for joining structural concrete components for use in the construction industry. This invention is a coupling of and for precast concrete components, the precast concrete members rely on being cast with a precisely formed monolithic “maile or femaile” (inverse coupling) shape that slips together easily with the mating component. When these components are joined they create an interlocking assembly (connection zone). In the connection zone, concrete grout is placed before the components are joined, as they are connected gravity and the components weight seat the coupling in compression. When the grout cures a permanent structural, monolithic coupling is formed.

Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] This invention relates to a method or process for connecting precast concrete components. This invention in particular is concerned with the method of connecting precast concrete components for the building and construction industry.

[0003] 2. Prior Art-Precast Concrete

[0004] The use of precast concrete components has gained great importance in the building and construction industry. Some of the reasons are: improved quality control; better concrete finishes; more orderly construction sites; lower cost of construction and shorter timelines onsite.

[0005] The most critical element of the precast concrete system is the joint between the components. The joint must contend with the weight of the structure itself plus the live load and a variety of external forces. Systems that use mechanical means to connect components have a variety of vulnerabilities like corrosion and horizontal forces. The conventional cast-in-place structure does not have the particular problems of precast systems because the columns, slabs, and beams are cast on site and these joints are monolithic therefore structural problems rarely occur.

[0006] The use of precast components to build multistory structures has been limited by the difficulty in creating a joint system that is practical and economical. The objective of this invention is to produce a method for connecting and joining precast concrete elements that overcomes some of the existing limitations.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] This invention is a coupling of and for precast concrete components, components designed to couple together a variety of monolithic components made for each other. The components that have the femaile receptors are matched to fit the components with the companion maile member. The components slip together easily and quickly. The maile and femaile component create an interlocking assembly when the maile is placed in the monolithic recess formed in the femaile component. The components weight and gravity will seat them in the connection zone, just prior to connecting the components a measured quantity of grout is placed in the zone, when the material cures a permanent coupling is created.

[0008] The variety of components that can use this system crosses every industry and region also the coupling can be adjusted to scale. The coupling is a part of the components and is made of products that already are produced and used globally. This system has some inherent qualities. It is easily assembled for a faster construction times therefore lower costs. It uses fewer different kinds parts and components thus provides a more simple construction process and that always leads to a definite safety factor. The particular precast components using this invention in the coming example are the column (maile), beam (femaile) and footing (femaile); the order sequence of assembly is for a one-bay, four-column, multi-story section for a building:

[0009] The first precast concrete column is positioned vertically over a footing receptor that has been set in place and properly cured. Prior to insertion, concrete grout is poured or injected into the footing receptor, spacers are attached to the columns for equal spacing in the receptor for an evenly distributed grout joint and then the column is lowered, seated and braced. The next column is set in a receptor as the scenario of the first column, in a location designed for the beam to be placed on both of the columns. After grout is placed between both joints, the beam is lowered and seated. Replication of the previous steps will produce the same results for the next beam and two columns. Once the beams are seated and parallel, the installing of the precast flooring components can commence. When these floor panels are locked in place (7a # 8) the process is repeated for the next story of the building. The columns are placed in the receptors on top of the beam and so on . . .

[0010] The result is a practical and economical method of assembly of the components and a reliable construction method and process in terms of its strength, durability and safety. The following drawings are to illustrate the above description.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0018] FIG. 1A shows in perspective the precast concrete components and the way they marry. The design of the coupling mandates that the precast components be designed to fit exactly with an allowed tolerance for concrete grout. The monolithic recesses in the beam 2 are recessed as to ensure the capture of the columns that are set opposite so as to transfer the load from upper column 1 to lower column 1 in a compact zone 4 of structural transfer. The monolithic shape of the femaile components takes the responsibility of providing a channel to secure the other and giving gravity and grout 5 the responsibility to keep this coupling 4 in compression and permanent. Synergetic, is a term for working together and that is what takes place with this coupling system. The maile component holds the femaile component horizontal and in turn the horizontal component keeps the vertical in place, not moving, flexing or rotating. In short this synergetic concept as it relates to this method or process make it a very efficient system.

[0019] FIG. 2A in this side view perspective of the details, the individual components are seen connected together in tandem. The columns 1 supporting the beam 2 and the union 4 keeping the column in place, all the components synergetic. The structural integrity in this figure consists of the beams and footing monolithic recess that secures the column from any flex, rotation or disconnect and therefore it is able to support the beam and so on . . . The simplicity of this synergetic system results in little waste of resources and energy.

[0020] FIG. 3A the left figure of the column and beam shows a perspective of looking from the top down, the components fit in a tight zone or grouping 4, the columns 1 are connected into the beam 2 and the beam 2 sits on or holds the columns 1 in zone 4 and all load is concentrated in this location and is transferred through the connection zone. The right figure includes a footing 3. Columns are locked in the footings recess and that supports the beam. The recess in component 2 and 3 hold component 1 it is not able to flex or rotate. These three components are synergetic and with gravity, the weight of the components, compression is created. Concrete grout is used to secure and bond them as a synergetic permanent coupling.

[0021] FIG. 4A gives a perspective from a three-dimensional view of the columns 1 permanently recessed in the beams 2, held by gravity and grout 5, not able to rotate or flex in this connection 4. The beam holds the lower and upper column in check therefore the beam is supported by the column. A synergetic structural coupling system in true form.

[0022] FIG. 5A this perspective shows the upper and lower columns 1, beams 2 and footings 3 in a multistory application. The elevation shows the monolithic recesses 4 above and below the beams securing the columns. The columns will support the beams therefore the planks have horizontal support. All loads are transferred to the coupling and contained in the tight zone through to the footing as in FIG. 3A.

[0023] FIG. 6A this is a perspective of a top view of a one-bay section, each column section works like FIG. 3A. The coupling 4 shows the beams 2 and columns 1 integrated to each other permanently in compression and transfers load and tension downward through this tightly contained connection zone to the footing. The footing likewise synergetic with the columns to support the beams and so on . . .

[0024] FIG. 7A shows the perspective of an end view elevation of the system components and their relation on a larger scale. The columns 1 are stacked vertically and stationary while supporting and transferring the load through the beams 2 and the permanent connection 4. The columns are embedded permanently into the beam and that load is transferred to and through the same connection of the footing that supports the vertical columns upward. This synergetic capability in the foregoing describes only some embodiments of the present invention, obvious to those skilled in the art of building & construction. The system of the present invention is particularly well adapted for use with concrete columns and beams. However, the building system may be employed with other types of construction components systems.
