Description

Note: This application claims priority of provisional application No. 60/701,347 filed on Jul. 21, 2005.

The present invention is directed generally toward devices useful in the ongoing training of children, and in a particular, non-limiting embodiment, to a multi-purpose swinging highchair useful for entertaining, feeding and bathroom training children of various ages.

As seen in the embodiment of FIG. 1, the invention comprises a swinging highchair, which in some embodiments can be locked into place to control swinging by means of a locking member such as a pin and/or tension knob. In other embodiments, the chair is equipped with a variable-position feeding tray, though a single-position feeding tray is also contemplated. For the child's comfort, the device may also be equipped with a footrest, though a footrest is not essential to practicing the advantages of the invention.

In a further embodiment, the chair is fitted with a combination toilet and urinal, which, in a presently preferred embodiment, slides into place beneath the swing seat, so that a child can void through a hole cut in the seat. According to the invention, the hole in the seat may also be covered with a fitted plug or another appropriate insert, so that the child will not be uncomfortable in the seat while being fed or entertained. According to the further embodiment depicted in FIG. 2, however, the seat can also be removed and simply replaced with a combination toilet and urinal during bathroom training.

The addition of other equipment used in conjunction with known child swings will also be useful when practicing the present invention; for example, wheels disposed on the bottoms of the swing's legs, a device for generating music or other entertainment for the child, etc., are all contemplated as natural extensions of the invention as shown and described herein.

The foregoing description is intended primarily for illustrative purposes, and is not intended to include all possible aspects of the present invention. Moreover, while the invention has been shown and described with respect to two exemplary embodiments, those of ordinary skill in the pertinent arts will appreciate that the foregoing description, and various other modifications, omissions and additions, so long as in the general form and detail, may be made without departing from either the spirit or scope thereof.
