CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application claims the priority benefits of U.S. provisional applications, both titled “GOLF CLUB HEAD”, filed on Dec. 09, 2005, Ser. No. 60/749,194respectively. All disclosures of these applications are incorporated herein by reference.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention generally relates to a golf club head. More particularly, the present invention relates to a golf club head with an adjustable center of gravity.

2. Description of Related Art

Nowadays golf has already become one of the most popular sports and the number of participants in the golf has risen rapidly. According to different terrains and uses, golf clubs are categorized into different types such as wood club, iron club, and putter. But no matter what type the golf club is, advances relating to structural design such as configuration and material of the golf club head are always desired in order to provide superior performance and suitability for a wide range of playing abilities and styles.

Specifically, as using a golf club to strike a golf ball, the flight distance and direction of the golf ball relates to the structural features, such as the center of gravity of the golf club head. For example, in the case that the center of gravity is positioned behind the point of engagement on the contact surface, the golf ball follows a generally straight route. In other cases, if the center of gravity deviates from the point of engagement, the golf ball may follow a curve route.

In response to the above, various designs for calibrating the structural features of golf club head, such as disposing weight block on the golf club head or changing the intrinsic composition of the main body of the golf club head, have been brought out. However, even though various types of golf club head can be achieved by the aforementioned designs, the structural features of a made-up golf club head are fixed due to a predetermined design rule yet, and the utilization of the golf club head is limited.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Accordingly, the purpose of the present invention is to provide a golf club head having a center of gravity which can be adjusted in real time to meet different playing requirements.

Based on the aforementioned and other purposes, the present invention proposes a golf club head comprising a main body and an adjustable weight mechanism disposed in the main body. The adjustable weight mechanism comprises a tube, a weight component movably disposed in the tube, and a driving component connected between the tube and the weight component for adjusting the position of the weight component along the tube.

According to an embodiment of the present invention, the driving component may comprise two air bags respectively disposed at two opposite sides of the weight component in the tube and both the air bags are opened to outside of the main body. Furthermore, the tube may have two air vents, and each air vent is connected between one of the air bags and the outside of the main body respectively.

Based on the above, an adjustable weight mechanism is integrated in a golf club head, and the center of gravity of the golf club head can be adjusted by changing the position of a weight component of the adjustable weight mechanism. In a word, the golf club head with the real time adjustable center of gravity is capable of meeting different playing requirements.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The accompanying drawings are included to provide a further understanding of the invention, and are incorporated in and constitute a part of this specification. The drawings illustrate embodiments of the invention and, together with the description, serve to explain the principles of the invention.

FIG. 1 is a top view of a golf club head according to an embodiment of the present invention.

FIG. 2 is a schematic view shows an adjustable weight mechanism according to an embodiment of the present invention.

FIGS. 3 and 4 respectively illustrate other golf club heads of the present invention.

DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS

Reference will now be made in detail to the present preferred embodiments of the invention, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Wherever possible, the same reference numbers are used in the drawings and the description to refer to the same or like parts.

FIG. 1 is a top view of a golf club head according to an embodiment of the present invention. Referring to FIG. 1, the golf club head 100 comprises a main body 110 and an adjustable weight mechanism 120 disposed therein. The adjustable weight mechanism 120 comprises a tube 122, a weight component 124 and a driving component 126, wherein the weight component 124 is movably disposed in the tube 122 and the driving component 126 is connected between the tube 122 and the weight component 124.

The position of the center of gravity of the golf club head 100 is determined by the relative position of the main body 110 and the weight component 124. Upon the adjustable weight mechanism 120, the position of the weight component 124 can be adjusted along the tube 122 by using the driving component 126. In this embodiment, the tube 122 is set along the direction from the heel 112 to the toe 114 of the main body 110. In other words, the weight component 124 can be driven horizontally, and the center of gravity of the golf club head 100 can be adjusted by changing the horizontal position of the weight component 124 of the adjustable weight mechanism 120. In order to drive the weight component 124, the driving component 126 can be embodied as the following illustration.

FIG. 2 is a schematic view shows an adjustable weight mechanism according to an embodiment of the present invention. Referring to FIG. 2, the adjustable weight mechanism 220 comprises a tube 222 and a weight component 224 disposed in the tube 222. In addition, two air bags 226a and 226b are respectively disposed at two opposite sides of the weight component 224 in the tube 222 for being as the driving component 126 in FIG. 1. Each end of the tube 222 has an air vent 228, and the air bags 226a and 226b are opened to the outside of the main body 110 via the air vents 228 respectively.

The position of the weight component 224 is determined by the air pressure in the air bags 226a and 226b, and thus the position of the weight component 224 can be controlled by blowing air into the air bags 226a and 226b from the outside of the main body 110.

It should be noted that according to the spirit of the present invention the driving component is not limited to the aforementioned air bags, any device well known to the one who skilled in the art shall be adopted to achieve the same effect. Furthermore, there provides no limited to the position and direction of the tube in the present invention. Specifically, the tube can be set along any direction in the main body of the golf club head according to the practical necessary. The following paragraph further illustrates other golf club heads of the present invention.

As shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, golf club heads 300 and 400 respectively having adjustable weight mechanisms 320 and 420 in different arrangements are proposed. The golf club head 300 of FIG. 3 has the adjustable weight mechanisms 320 whose tube 322 is arranged along the direction from the crown 312 to the sole 314 of the main body 310 of the golf club head 300. Therefore, the weight component 324 can be driven vertically by the driving component 326 in the tube 322. Additionally, the adjustable weight mechanisms 420 of the golf club head 400 in FIG. 4 has a tube 422 arranged along the direction from the back 412 to the striking surface 414 of the main body 410 of the golf club head 400. Therefore, the weight component 424 can be driven horizontally by the driving component 426 in the tube 422.

In summary, the present invention combines the golf club head with an adjustable weight mechanism to achieve a real time adjustment of the center of gravity of the golf club head. Therefore, the users can adjust the center of gravity of the golf club head in any time according to any using demands. The golf club head with the adjustable weight mechanism gives more convenience and flexibility in using and shall be more competitive in the market.

It will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications and variations can be made to the structure of the present invention without departing from the scope or spirit of the invention. In view of the foregoing, it is intended that the present invention cover modifications and variations of this invention provided they fall within the scope of the following claims and their equivalents.
