Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to exercising machines and more particularly, to such an exercising machine, which uses position-control devices for enabling the user to quickly adjust the position of crank arms subject to different operation needs.

2. Description of the Related Art

FIG. 6 shows a conventional exercising machine 90. According to this design, the exercising machine 90 comprises a traction mechanism 92. The traction mechanism 92 comprises two arms 94 and two control plates 96. The arms 94 each have a positioning member 942. The control plates 96 are respectively coupled to one end of each of the arms 94, each having a plurality of equiangularly spaced through holes 962. By means of selectively inserting the positioning members 942 into the locating holes 962 of the control plates 96, the arms 94 are set at a predetermined angle for biasing by the user. Therefore, by means of the traction mechanism 92, the user can adjust the exercising machine to provide different biasing angles for exercising the muscles of different parts of the body.

However, when adjusting the biasing angle of the two arms 94, the user must leave the exercising machine 90, and then remove the two positioning members 942 from the control plates 96, and then insert the positioning members 942 into the selected locating holes 962. After adjustment, the user can then return to the exercising machine 90 and operate the exercising machine 90 again. When wishing to exercise the muscles of a different party of the body, the user must leave the exercising machine 90 and then adjust the arms 94 to the desired angle. The adjustment of this traction mechanism 92 is complicated and inconvenient.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

It is the main object of the present invention to provide an exercising machine, which uses position-control device means for enabling the user to quickly adjust the position of crank arm means subject to different operation needs.

To achieve this object of the present invention, the exercising machine comprises a base frame, damper means, and at least one position-control device. The base frame includes at least one positioning plate with a plurality of locating holes and at least one crank arm pivoted to the at least one positioning plate. The damper means is mounted in the base frame and coupled to the at least one crank arm for imparting a damping resistance to the at least one crank arm during operation of the at least one crank arm by the user. The at least one position-control device includes a lever pivoted to the at least one crank arm, a positioning member movably mounted on the at least one crank arm and engageable into one locating hole of the at least one positioning plate to secure the crank arm to the positioning plate at a desired angle, and a traction member connected between the lever and the positioning member for pulling by the lever to disengage the positioning member from the locating hole of the positioning plate.

In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the position-control device further comprises a spring member sleeved onto the positioning member for forcing the positioning member into engagement with one locating hole of the positioning plate.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

As shown in FIGS. 1-3, an exercising machine 10 in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises a base frame 20, two dampers 30, two position-control devices 40, and two spring members 50.

The base frame 20 comprises a seat 22 for allowing the user to sit on, and two semicircular positioning plates 24 bilaterally connected to the bottom side of the seat 22. Each semicircular positioning plate 24 has a plurality of equiangularly spaced locating holes 242. The base frame 20 further comprises two crank arms 26 respectively pivoted to the semicircular positioning plates 24. Therefore, the user can bias the crank arms 26 relative to the semicircular positioning plates 24.

The two dampers 30 are respectively provided at two opposite lateral sides of the base frame 20. The crank arms 26 are respectively coupled to the dampers 30. When biasing the crank arms 26, the dampers 30 impart a damping resistance to the crank arms 26 respectively.

The position-control devices 40 are respectively mounted on the crank arms 26 of the base frame 20 each comprising a lever 42, two locating plates 44, a traction member 46, and a positioning member 48. The lever 42 is pivotally mounted on the associating crank arm 26 for operation by the user. The two locating plates 44 are welded to one end of the associating crank arm 26, and spaced from each other at a distance. The traction member 46 according to this embodiment is a steel cable having one end, namely, the front end connected to one end of the lever 42 and the other end, namely, the rear end inserted through the two locating plates 44 and connected to the positioning member 48. According to this embodiment, the positioning member 48 is a pin engaged into one locating hole 242 of the associating semicircular positioning plate 24 to hold the associating crank arm 26 at a predetermined angle for biasing by the user. By means of operating the lever 42 to move the traction member 46, the positioning member 48 is engaged into one locating hole 242 of the associating semicircular positioning plate 24 or disengaged from the corresponding locating hole 242.

The spring members 50 are coil springs respectively sleeved onto the positioning members 48 of the position-control devices 40, each having one end stopped at a part of the associating positioning member 48 and the other end stopped against one locating plate 44 of the associating position-control device 40. The spring members 50 impart an outward pressure to the associating positioning members 48, forcing the associating positioning members 48 into engagement with the associating semicircular positioning plates 24.

Referring to FIG. 4, before using the exercising machine 10 to exercise the muscles of a different part of the body, the user must adjust the crank arms 26 to the proper angle. At this time, hold the levers 26 with the two hands and then press the levers 26 to pull the associating traction members 46 and to further disengage the associating positioning members 48 from the corresponding locating holes 242 of the associating semicircular positioning plate 24, and then bias the crank arms 26 to the desired angle as shown in FIG. 5, and then release the levers 42 for enabling the spring members 50 to force the positioning members 48 into the newly selected locating holes 242 respectively, thereby holding the crank arms 26 at the desired angle for operation to exercise the muscles of the body.

Therefore, the exercising machine 10 of the present invention allows the user to quickly adjust the crank arms 26 to the desired position when the user is sitting on the seat 22 of the exercising machine 10, i.e., the user can adjust the angular position of the crank arms 26 without leaving the exercising machine 10.
