POUCH PURSE

Abstract

A purse and belt holder for holding essential items and for attaching the purse to a belt of person wearing the belt that comprises in combination the purse made of a flexible bag, a crocheted top portion and a gatetop portion that includes a closure cap. When in use, the bag then hangs hands free, off a waist of the person wearing the belt.

This application claims the benefit of U.S. provisional patent application 60/798,374 filed May 5, 2006.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to a pouch purse that can be easily attached to a belt to keep minimal essential possessions on a person for safe keeping while allowing hands free mobility.

BACKGROUND

The idea of the pouch purse came about because the inventor herein found it cumbersome to carry a purse with a strap when riding a motorcycle. In addition, when dancing, there is always a concern when a purse is left behind on a table or a seat. The inventor herein, for example, enjoys swing dancing and motorcycle riding and found that there were times when you didn't want to carry a regular sized purse but needed to carry some essentials on your person such as keys, your license, money, lipstick or a cell phone. As noted above, it is sometimes difficult and bothersome to dance or ride a motorcycle with a regular purse that hangs over your shoulder with a strap.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The invention is a combination purse and means for attaching the purse to a belt. More particularly, the purse portion is a flexible bag sized to hold essential items such as a driver's license, lipstick, money, cell phone, etc., that has a crocheted top portion at its opening and a collapsible gatekeeper (or gatetop) portion attached to the crocheted portion. The gatetop portion further includes a hinged cap portion that engages the top of the gatetop portion when it is in a collapsed state to prevent the contents of the flexible bag from falling out.

The flexible bag is preferably made from a leather material, especially a soft leather material such as lamb skin. More particularly, the material should be thin and durable as well as light in weight. Of course, any flexible material could be used such as fabric material, vinyl material, etc., all of various colors of preference or combination of colors. Similarly, the gatetop portion can be made from a variety of materials from metal to plastics, and of course, colors can be any reference as well. The inventor herein, for example, has a preference for a black flexible bag and a silver gatetop portion.

The gatetop portion can be clasped to the crocheted section of the purse.

The invention can be made in various sizes depending on how much contents are desired to be placed within the bag.

The pouch purse is attached to a belt with a pouch purse holder that attaches to the belt itself. The attachment to the belt can be made in a number of well known methods, including hook and loop fastener methods; however, the preference is by having two slotted holes on the holder back portion through which the belt can slide though one slot and into the other to allow the holder to slide along the belt.

The holder can have another front strap that engages to the back portion and has sufficient length between the engagement points to allow for the securement of the gatetop portion between the back portion and the front strap. The holder is preferably made from leather or similar material. In the preferred example, the front strap can be attached to the back portion at one point permanently and at the second point with a releasable method such as a snap connection. Another preference is to have the front strap secured at both points with a snap connection. In this embodiment, the front strap is strapped around the gatetop and snapped onto the bag holder back portion to attach the bag to the belt. The bag then hangs, hands free, off the waist of the person wearing the belt.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Referring now to the drawings, FIGS. 1-5 disclose one embodiment of the present invention, which is a combination purse pouch and belt holder for the purse pouch and is depicted generally as 10.

The purse portion 12 is a flexible bag 12a sized to hold essential items such as a driver's license, lipstick, money, cell phone, etc., that has a crocheted top portion 12b at its opening and a collapsible gatekeeper (or gatetop) portion 12c attached to the crocheted portion 12b. The gatetop portion 12c further includes a hinged cap portion 12e that engages the top of the gatetop portion 12c when it is in a collapsed state to prevent the contents of the flexible bag 12a from falling out. As depicted in FIG. 3, decorative charms 12d of any desired theme may be further attached to the gatetop portion 12c. The decorative charms 12d are further suitable for use to pull open the gatetop frame portion 12c of the pouch purse after the hinged cap portion 12e is disengaged or opened. The gatetop portion 12c is typically clasped using small hooks (not shown) to the crocheted section 12b of the purse 12, although it may also be sewn.

Latching means 12f for securing the cap portion 12e to the gatetop portion 12c when the cap portion 12e is in a closed position may be incorporated. Contemplated are clasps similar to those used with jewelry such as bracelets.

The pouch purse 12 is attached to a belt 16 with a pouch purse holder 14 that attaches to the belt 16 itself. The attachment to the belt 16 can be made in a number of well known methods, including hook and loop fastener methods; however, the preference is by having two slotted holes 14c on the holder back portion 14a through which the belt 16 can slide though one slot 14c and into the other slot 14c to allow the holder 14 to slide along the belt 16.

The holder 14 has another front strap 14b that engages to the back portion 14a and has sufficient length between the engagement points 14dto allow for the securement of the collapsed gatetop portion 12c between the back portion 14a and the front strap 14b. In the preferred example, the front strap 14b can be attached to the back portion 14a at one engagement point 14d permanently and at the second engagement point 14d with a releasable method such as a snap connection. Another preference is to have the front strap 14b secured at both points 14d with a snap connection. In this embodiment, the front strap 14b is strapped around the gatetop 12c and snapped onto the bag holder back portion 14a to attach the bag 12a to the belt 16. The bag 12a then hangs hands free, off the waist of the person wearing the belt.

It should be understood that the preceding is merely a detailed description of one or more embodiments of this invention and that numerous changes to the disclosed embodiments can be made in accordance with the disclosure herein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. The preceding description, therefore, is not meant to limit the scope of the invention. Rather, the scope of the invention is to be determined only by the appended claims and their equivalents.

Claims

1. An apparatus for holding essential items and for attaching said apparatus to a belt of person wearing said belt, the apparatus comprising in combination:

a purse;

means for attaching said purse to a belt;

said purse comprising a flexible bag having a crocheted top portion at its opening and a collapsible gatetop portion attached to said crocheted portion, the gatetop portion further including a hinged cap portion that engages a top of the gatetop portion when it is in a collapsed state to prevent contents of the flexible bag from falling out,

wherein said means for attaching the purse to the belt comprises a pouch purse holder having a back portion that engages the belt and a front strap portion having a sufficient length between two engagement points of the front strap to the back portion to allow for a securement of the gatetop portion between the back portion and the front strap, and

wherein when the purse and pouch purse holder are attached to the belt, the bag then hangs hands free, off a waist of the person wearing the belt.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the flexible bag is made from a leather material.

3. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the pouch purse holder is made from a leather material.

4. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the front strap is secured at the two engagement points with a snap connection.

5. The apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising one or more decorative charms attached to the gatetop portion.

6. The apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising latching means for securing said cap portion to said gatetop portion when said cap portion is in a closed position.
