Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention pertains to a cover for a baseball cap. A baseball cap with camouflage design is probably one of the most popular head coverings used by hunters. Camouflage clothing is normally used during bow and arrow season for hunting deer, for hunting water fowl and wild turkey and the like. However, during most other hunting seasons, the hunter is required to wear blaze orange clothing for safety purposes.

During wild turkey season, in some states, the hunter may wear all camouflage clothing when positioned for hunting, but must wear blaze orange, at least on the head, when transitioning from one place to another.

In this latter situation, hunters would prefer to have a simple way of converting their baseball cap from camouflage to blaze orange without having to change hats. It is a principal object of the present invention to accommodate this desire.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention pertains to a cover for a conventional baseball cap which has a dome-shaped crown with a visor protruding from the front peripheral edge of the crown. The cover is comprised of a fabric dome-shaped cover dimensioned for overlying the crown of the baseball cap. The cover has a peripheral skirt extending from each side edge of the cover for folding upwardly into the crown of the cap and around the internal peripheral headband in the crown, as found in all conventional baseball caps, for securing the cover to the cap.

In addition, the cover may be provided with a split in the rear portion thereof for permitting the cover to adjust in size to the crown. The cap crown is conventionally adjustable by a band adjustment spanning an open segment at the rear portion of the cap crown. In addition, a rear split skirt depending from this split rear portion of the cover may be provided for folding upwardly into the crown and securing means are provided, such as VELCRO or similar type hook and loop fasteners, for securing the folded split skirt to itself through the rear open segment of the cap crown.

The cover is preferably blaze orange in color so that the conventional camouflage type baseball cap may be easily and quickly converted to display blaze orange as required by the hunting laws. The cover may be easily folded and retained in ones pocket and does not require that the hunter carry two separate hats.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

Other objects and advantages appear hereinafter in the following description and claims. The accompanying drawings show, for the purpose of exemplification, without limiting the scope of the invention or the appended claims, certain practical embodiments of the present invention wherein:

FIG. 1 is a side view of a conventional baseball cap;

FIG. 2 is a rear view of the baseball cap shown in FIG. 1;

FIG. 3 is a side view of the baseball cap shown in FIG. 1 with the cover of the present invention applied;

FIG. 4 is a view in side elevation of the cover shown in FIG. 3 before application to the baseball cap;

FIG. 5 is a rearview of the cover shown in FIG. 4;

FIG. 6 is a bottom view of the baseball cap shown in FIG. 1 illustrating the cover of the present invention being initially applied to the cap; and

FIG. 7 is a bottom view of the combination cover and baseball cap shown in FIG. 3 with the cover being fully applied.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

Referring to the drawings, the cover 10 of the present invention is provided for covering a conventional baseball cap 11 (see FIGS. 1 and 2) having a dome-shaped crown 12 with a visor 13 protruding from the front peripheral edge 14 of crown 12. The cover 12 is illustrated before application to the cap 11 in FIGS. 4 and 5. The cover 10 is comprised of a fabric-dome-shaped configuration which is dimensioned for overlying the crown 12 of the baseball cap 11. The cover 10 is provided with peripheral skirts 15 extending or depending from each side of cover 10 for folding upwardly into the crown 12 of cap 11 and around the internal peripheral headband 16 as is illustrated further in FIGS. 6 and 7, for securing the cover 10 to the cap 11. The rear portion 17 of cover 10 is provided with a split 18 to permit the cover 10 to adjust in size to the cap crown 12. Cap crown 12 is adjustable by a conventional band adjustment in the form of an adjustable band 19 spanning open segment 20 at the rear portion 21 of crown 12. This adjustable band 19 is shown as being adjustable with separable strap segments 22 and 23. Strap segment 23 is provided with a single snap clearance opening at 24 which will receive therethrough in snap engagement one of the protruding snap prongs 25 on strap segment 22.

However, other conventional strap adjustments may be used, such as a buckle adjustment or an elastic band.

A rear split skirt 26 depends from the split rear portion 18 of the cover 10 for folding upwardly into the crown 12 as sequentially illustrated in FIGS. 6 and 7 for securing the folded split skirt 26 to itself through the rear open segment 20 of crown 12 by means of the conventional hook and loop fasteners 27.

The conventional baseball cap 11 might typically be provided with a camouflage pattern and the cover 10 would normally be provided as blaze orange in color.
