Warning Apparatus
A warning apparatus is provided, whose main body includes a monolithically formed transparent tempered material with a thickness. The top of the main body includes at least two injections units. The injection units are upward bumps. The injection units are less than 10 mm in height. The curvature on the surface of injection unit bumps changes at different height of the bumps. The bottom of the main body includes at least two reflection units. The reflection units are downward bumps. The bottom of the main body also includes a reflective layer attached to the outer surface of the reflection units so that the light entering the main body can be reflected by the reflective layer to provide warning. The durable, low-height injection unit bumps will minimize the impact on the driving safety when the tires run over, while providing effective visual warning.
The present invention generally relates to a warning apparatus for traffic roads, and more specifically to a road warning apparatus that has lower surface bump, higher reflective effect, and durable structure.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONThe marks on the road surface are for providing the drivers with the visible direction so as to keep proper space between vehicles. The ideal situation is that the marks on the road surface must be able to provide suitable visibility under any circumstances, rain or shine, day or night.
To solve the intrinsic problem of thermal-plastic marks, the conventional technique is to add a reflective warning apparatus at one or both ends of the road marks. The reflective warning apparatus is usually 19-25 mm in height, and made of glass, aluminum alloy, or plastics. Because, in general, the normal rain will accumulate about 1 mm to cover the road, this type of reflective waning apparatus can still provide the warning reflection, especially in the freeway system. Most traffic rules in the world enforce the regulation that the reflective warning apparatus should be less than 19 mm in height for highways, and less than 25 mm for local roads, which imposes the constrain in the use of reflective warning apparatus. In addition, the reflective warning apparatus forms a bump on the road surface that may cause discomfort, or even hazard, when the tires run over the reflective warning apparatus, which causes the tire skid or shift. Another concern is that the reflective warning apparatus may be easily damaged by the snowplow in the snowy area when the roads are covered in snow. On the other hand, it is difficult to keep the height of the reflective warning apparatus less than 3 mm, as the protective shell for such apparatus, usually made of aluminum alloy or plastics, must be thicker than 3 mm to provide sufficient protection to the apparatus as well as weather the weight of vehicles.
Because there exists safety concerns about the road marks, other types of structures have been proposed for improvement. For example, during the marking of the road marks, as shown in
The present invention has been made to overcome the above-mentioned drawback of conventional reflective warning apparatus. The primary object of the present invention is to provide a warning apparatus that is low-height and durable. The warning apparatus of the present invention is monolithically made of a tempered transparent material, such as glass. The warning apparatus has a thickness with the injection unit and the reflection unit at the top and the bottom so as to reflect horizontal lights effectively. The warning apparatus, after installation, is only less 5 mm over the road surface, and will not be immersed by the rain to lose the reflection for warning. As the bump after the installation is low, the warning apparatus will not affect the driving safety and remains to provide effective warning for drivers.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a warning apparatus that can be widely used in a plurality of occasions. In addition to reflect horizontal light, the warning apparatus of the present invention can also be slightly altered to reflect vertical light; hence, the warning apparatus can also be used on a vertical wall, such as the wall at a T-intersection, to provide warning for the drivers. The present invention can also be altered to reflect the light from above, such as installed on the flat platform of the elevator.
To achieve the above objects, the present invention provides a warning apparatus, whose main body includes a monolithically formed transparent tempered material with a thickness. The top of the main body includes at least two injections units. The injection units are upward bumps. The injection units are less than 10 mm in height. The curvature on the surface of injection unit bumps changes at different height of the bumps. The bottom of the main body includes at least reflection units. The reflection units are downward bumps. The bottom of the main body also includes a reflective layer attached to the outer surface of the reflection units so that the light entering the main body can be reflected by the reflective layer to provide warning.
The foregoing and other objects, features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood from a careful reading of a detailed description provided herein below with appropriate reference to the accompanying drawings.
The present invention can be understood in more detail by reading the subsequent detailed description in conjunction with the examples and references made to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
To ensure that the warning apparatus of the present invention will not interfere the traffic and the visibility in rain when installed on the road, injection units 2 are limited to be less than 10 mm in height, preferably less than 5 mm, so that the normal rain will not immerse injection units 2 entirely. For the snowy area, injection units 2 can be designed to be less than 2 mm in height to prevent interfering snowplow operation. Hence, when the warning apparatus is installed on the road, the potential interference caused by small-sized, low-height injection units 2 to the vehicles can be minimized, while maintaining the reflective warning effects. As the warning apparatus of the present invention is monolithically formed, injection units 2 will not break off easily, and thus is more durable for extended period of use.
In the present embodiment, main body 1 is made of tempered glass material. To achieve good light penetration, the glass material has a low iron ingredient. That is, the Fe2O3 is less than 0.05%. The refractive index of the glass is between Nd 1.4-1.9. Because the refractive index will affect the refraction and the reflection angles, the curvatures of curve injection surface 21 of injection units 2 and curve reflection surface 31 of reflection units 3 also depend on the refractive index. In the present embodiment, curve injection surface 21 and curve reflection surface 31 do not have the same curvatures, and each includes at least two curvatures, which changes at different height on the surfaces. For good reflectivity, each injection unit 2 has a corresponding reflection unit 3 in this embodiment. The diameter and the size of reflection unit 3 are both larger than those of injection unit 2. The shapes of injections units 2 and reflection units 3 are also dependent on the reflection effects.
In this embodiment, main body is made of transparent tempered glass material. Reflective layer 4 at the bottom of main body 1 is made of metal, such as aluminum or aluminum alloy, and the reflected light is white. To reflect a specific color of light, there are two approaches that the present invention can use. The first is to use the specific color of glass as main body 1. For example, a yellow glass used as main body can form yellow reflective light. The second approach is to use the original clear glass as main body and a thin film of specific color at the bottom of main body 1 before reflective layer 4 is formed. Therefore, when the light passes the color thin film, the reflective light shows the color of the thin film. For example, if the thin film is yellow, the reflective light will be yellow.
To protect injection units 2 of main body 1 from dust or mud accumulation and affecting the light penetration, this embodiment includes a dust preventive thin film on the top surface of main body 1. The dust preventive thin film is a thin film made of one of nano-scaled TiO, ZnO, Al2O3, SiO2, glass powder, Au, Ag, Cu, Sn, and so on. The thin film can be formed by spray or thermal spray method. The think film prevents the dust from sticking to the surface, and when the tire of the vehicle runs over the surface, the surface gets cleaned. A protective layer can also be included on the outer surface of reflective layer 4 of main body 1. The protective layer can be formed by painting a layer of resin or paint, or other anti-erosion material to prolong the life span of the present invention.
In all the above embodiments, the main body is made of transparent tempered glass material with good light penetration effects. Any other similar material, such as transparent tempered plastic or color tempered plastic can also be used. This structure has the advantage of lower manufacturing cost, but the disadvantage of shorter life expectancy
In summary, the present invention provides a warning apparatus with a main body having at least two injection units on the top and at least two reflection units on the bottom to achieve reflectivity for visual warning. The structure is monolithically formed, and thus is durable and easy to manufacture.
Although the present invention has been described with reference to the preferred embodiments, it will be understood that the invention is not limited to the details described thereof. Various substitutions and modifications have been suggested in the foregoing description, and others will occur to those of ordinary skill in the art. Therefore, all such substitutions and modifications are intended to be embraced within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
