Depth enhancing artistic display arrangement

A display assembly for presenting a work or art in a three-dimensional format comprising a window frame having facia boards and a lower sill defining a periphery of the display assembly, a housing arranged on a rearside of the window frame, and a unitary rectilinear backer panel having a front side and a back side. The backer panel is formed into a supported three dimensional presentation. The work of art is displayed upon the front side of the backer panel. The backer panel has an array of score lines cut into its back side, to permit the backer panel to remain unitary and also be effectively bent and formed into the three dimensional presentation.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

This invention relates to decorative window-like displays for attachment to wall surfaces to represent artistic works in a three dimensional display or format

2. Prior Art

The present invention relates to a format for displaying a work of art as a three dimensional presentation. That work of art is to be adhereingly applied to a display panel. This arrangement is an improvement on my earlier invention as shown in my U.S. Pat. No. 5,265,360, used Nov. 30, 1993, incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.

That window view assembly in the '360 patent comprised a window display of a plurality of individual panels set angularly within a housing framework on the inner side of a window frame. The individual panels of artwork were disposed in a supportive arrangement which required careful alignment of such individual panels and the visible discontinuities in that artwork along the perimeter of those individual panels.

It is an object of the present invention to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a method of displaying an existing work of art in a three dimensional representation.

It is yet still a further object of the present invention to provide a display of an existing work of art without having to show any discontinuities between adjacent panels.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to the unique presentation of a work of art in a three-dimensional presentation, preferably within a window frame and having a housing enclosure arranged on the rearside thereof.

The work of art utilized in the present invention applied to a rectilinear paper or fiberboard backer panel of corresponding size. The display panel assembly, consisting of the print or work of art applied to the backer panel, will be then be manipulably shaped into a particular three dimensional configuration. That three dimensional configuration will be inserted within an enclosure housing arranged to the back side of a window frame display assembly. The window frame display assembly will have facia boards on its front side, with a lowermost window sill, so as to provide the appearance of a typical window.

The display panel assembly will be supported within the top of the window housing, by a panel-backer insert. The panel-backer insert, may have a plurality of lights, such as for example, LEDs, for controllably establishing one or more lights onto the three-dimensional display of the artwork on the display panel assembly within the window frame assembly.

The print or art work on the front (display) side of the backer board and the rear side of that backer panel will both be carefully manipulated. The rear side of that backer panel, preferably comprised of paper board, will have a first score line and a second score line, each parallel to one another, extending at least partially vertically within that display panel backside. Those score lines (score line being a partial depth cut, about one-half way through the material) will requiredly only go part way through that backer board. The score lines will preferably extend at least two thirds of the way down the vertical length of that display panel assembly. The lowermost portion of those scroll lines will stop at a transverse scroll line extending transversely across a partial mid-portion width of the rear side of the backer panel.

The juncture of the vertical scroll lines, and the single transverse score line, comprises a point from which a “through-cut” is made through the backer panel and the art work print on the front side of that paper board backer panel, the display panel assembly. That diagonal cut of the lower portion of the display panel assembly goes from that juncture point to its respective lowermost corner on the display panel assembly. A generally triangularly shaped portion is cut from each respective corner on the lower portion of the display panel to effect proper fitting of the display panel assembly within the back housing once the display panel is formed for proper display purposes, into its three dimensional shape.

The display panel assembly is thus bent along the score lines including both the vertical parallel scroll lines, and the scroll line through the juncture of the two points at the lower end of those vertical scroll lines. The lowermost segment of the unitary display panel assembly generally comprises a truncated triangle. That truncated triangle has a lower edge which is bent forwardly along the mid-portion transverse score line so as to abut the lowermost edge of the frame on the window frame display arrangement. That is, the lower edge of the triangle is manipulatively arranged to be immediately adjacent the back edge of the window sill. The side portions of the work of art have side edges which abut the facia boards on the side of the window frame display assembly.

The display panel has an upper edge which is formed into a three-dimensional three-sided configuration which mates with the panel backer insert arranged within the upper end of the inside of the rectilinear housing attached to the back side of the window frame display assembly.

Thus a single sheet of a work of art may be applied adheredly to the front side of a backer panel paper board arrangement, and the backside of that paper board panel is thus merely scored along certain particular lines and cut completely through on several diagonal lines, so as to permit that single display work of art to be gracefully and readily formed into a three dimensional display without requiring separation or cutting of the backer panel or the work of art into individual parcels thereof. Such a three dimensional format effects the work of art into an accentuated display, particularly when placed within the window framed display assembly having a window-paned grid arrangement along its front face.

The invention thus comprises a display assembly for presenting a work or art in a three-dimensional format comprising: a window frame having facia boards and a lower sill defining a periphery of the display assembly, a housing arranged on a rearside of the window frame, and a unitary rectilinear backer panel having a front side and a back side, the backer panel formed into a supported three dimensional presentation, the work of art being displayed upon the front side of the backer panel. The backer panel has an array of score lines cut into its back side, to permit the backer panel to be bent and formed into the three dimensional presentation. The backer panel has an array of diagonally disposed through cut lines arranged therein to permit the backer panel and the work of art to be further formed into the three dimensional display presentation. The display assembly may include a formed backer panel insert arranged within an upper end of the housing on the rear side of the window frame, to provide support to the upper end of the display panel assembly in said housing on the window frame. A controllable electrically empowered light arrangement may be attached to the backer panel insert to provide directable light to a display onto/behind and/or within the window display assembly. The backer panel insert comprises an inverted trough shaped member, having a shaped rear panel which conforms in shape to the backer panel in its three-dimensional shape at its upper end thereof.

The invention also includes a method of converting a planar work of art into a three dimensional display presentation comprising one or more of the following steps of: arranging the work of art onto a front side of a correspondingly sized rectilinearly shaped backer panel, making a pair of spaced apart, longitudinally extending generally mid-centered, parallel score lines onto a rear side of the backer panel, making a further score line into said backer panel at a lower end of the parallel score lines, cutting a diagonal cut completely through the backer panel and the work of art on the front side of the panel from the ends of the further score lines to respective corners of the backer panel; and bending the backer panel and the work of art on the front side of the backer panel along the score lines, to as to form the panel and work of art into a three dimensional display presentation. The method also includes inserting the three dimensional display presentation into a housing on the rear side of a window frame assembly for effective display of the work of art. The method includes inserting a backer panel insert within the housing to provide support to the backer panel and the work of art.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The objects and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent, when viewed in conjunction with the following drawings in which:

FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of a window frame display assembly having a display panel assembly and work of art arranged therebehind;

FIG. 2 is an elevational view of the backside of the window frame display assembly shown in FIG. 1, without the three dimensional display panel assembly disposed therein;

FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a portion of the window frame assembly and display panel assembly shown in FIG. 1, with portions removed to show features of construction thereof;

FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a panel backer insert which supports the upper end of a display panel assembly housed in the upper end of the window frame display assembly; and

FIG. 5 is a rear elevational view of a display panel backer board showing the back side thereof with the appropriate score lines and diagonal cuts are made so as to permit the three dimensional folding thereof to provide the depth perception to a work of art.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

Referring now to the drawings in detail, and particularly to FIG. 1, there is shown the present invention which comprises a window view assembly 10 presentation comprising a work of art 12 in a three-dimensional presentation, preferably within a window frame 14. A housing enclosure 16 is arranged on the rearside thereof, as represented in FIG. 2.

The work of art 12 utilized in the present invention is applied to a rectilinear paper or fiberboard backer panel 20 of corresponding size, as represented partially in FIG. 3, and in a planar “flat” format in FIG. 5. The display panel assembly 22, consisting of the print or work of art 12 applied to the backer panel 20 will be then be manipulably shaped into a particular three-dimensional configuration, as may be seen in FIG. 1, and as is partially represented in FIG. 3. That three-dimensional configuration will be inserted within the enclosure housing 16 arranged as the back side of a window frame display assembly 10, as represented in FIG. 2. The window frame display assembly 10 will have a three-sided peripheral array of facia boards 24 on its front side, with a lowermost window sill 26, as represented in FIG. 1, so as to provide the appearance of a “typical” window.

The display panel assembly 20 will be supported within the top of the window housing 16 by a panel-backer insert 30, of inverted elongaated trough shape, as shown in FIG. 4. The panel-backer insert 30, may have a plurality of lights 32, such as for example, LEDs, for controllably presenting and diffusably displaying from its front side 31 one or more lights 32 onto the three-dimensional display of the artwork 12 on the display panel assembly 20 within the window frame assembly 10. Other lights may be arranged behind the panel assembly 20, showing through openings therein, not represented for clarity of viewing,

The print or art work 12 attached onto the front (display) side of the backer panel 20 and the rear side of that backer panel 20 will both be carefully manipulated. The rear side of that backer panel 20, preferably comprised of paper board, will have a first score line 40 and a second score line 42, each parallel to one another, extending through no more than partially vertically within the rearside of the display panel assembly 20. Those score lines 40 and 42 (a score line being a partial depth cut, about one-half way through the material) will requiredly only go part way through that backer panel assembly 20 (board). The score lines 40 and 42 will preferably extend at least about two thirds of the way down (along) the vertical length of that display panel assembly 20, as represented in FIG. 5. The lowermost portion of those score lines 40 and 42, those locations being indicated as “L1” and “L2” in FIG. 5, will stop at a relatively short transverse score line 44 extending transversely across a partial mid-portion width (only between the parallel score lines 40 and 42, points L1 and L2) of the rear side of the backer panel assembly 20.

The junctures of the vertical scroll lines 40 and 42, and the single transverse score line 44 (L1 and L2), each comprises a point from which a “through-cut” 46 and 48 are made completely through the thickness of the backer panel assembly 20 and the art work print 12 on the front side of that paper board backer panel assembly 20, that is, the display panel assembly 22. The diagonal cuts 46 and 48 of the lower portion of the display panel assembly 22 goes from the juncture points L1 and L2 to their respective lowermost corners 50 and 52, as shown in FIG. 5 on the display panel assembly 20.

A pair of generally triangularly shaped portions 60 and 62 are cut from each respective corner 50 and 52 on the lower portion of the display panel assembly 20 to permit proper fitting of the display panel assembly 20 within the back housing 16, as partially shown in FIG. 3, once the display panel assembly 22 is formed three dimensionally, for proper display purposes by bending along the score lines 40, 42 and 44, into its three dimensional shape.

The display panel assembly 22 is thus bent along the score lines 40, 42 and 44 including both the “vertical” parallel score lines 40 and 42, and the transverse score line 44 through the juncture of the two points L1 and L2 at the lower end of those vertical score lines 40 and 42, as shown in FIG. 5. The lowermost segment 70 of the unitary display panel assembly 22 generally comprises a truncated triangle 73. That truncated triangle has a lower edge 72 which is bent forwardly along the mid-portion transverse score line 44 so as to abut the lowermost edge 74 behind the sill 15 on the window frame display arrangement 10. That is, the lower edge of the triangle 72 is manipulatively arranged to be immediately adjacent the back edge of the window sill 15. The side portions 12A and 12B of the work of art 12 have side edges 76 and 78 which abut the facia boards 14 on the side of the window frame display assembly 10.

The display panel assembly 22 has an upper edge 80 which is formed into a curvilinear, three-dimensional three-sided configuration which mates with a shaped rear inner edge 82 of the panel backer insert 30 arranged within the upper end of the inside of the rectilinear housing 16 attached to the back side of the window frame display assembly 10, as represented in FIGS. 1 and 4. The shaped rear edge 82 conforms to the shape of the upper end of the display panel 20 when that panel 20 is formed and bent.

Thus a single sheet of a work of art 12 may be applied adheringly to the front side of a backer panel 20 (paper board arrangement), and the backside of that paper board panel 20 is thus merely “scored” along certain particular lines 40, 42 and 44, and also cut completely through on several diagonal lines 47 and 48, so as to permit that single display work of art 12 and 20 to be gracefully and readily formed into a three dimensional display assembly 22 without requiring separation or cutting of the backer panel 20 or the work of art 12 into individual parcels thereof. Such a three dimensional format effects the work of art into an accentuated display, particularly when placed within the window framed display assembly 10 having a window-paned grid arrangement 90 along its front face, as represented in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, or other insert view perspective interface or view “interfering” member.

Claims

1. A display assembly for presenting a work or art in a three-dimensional format comprising:

a window frame having facia boards and a lower sill defining a periphery of said display assembly;
a housing arranged on a rearside of said window frame; and
a unitary rectilinear backer panel having a front side and a back side, said backer panel formed into a supported three dimensional presentation, said work of art being displayed upon said front side of said backer panel.

2. The display assembly as recited in claim 1, wherein said backer panel has an array of score lines cut into its back side, to permit said backer panel to be bent and formed into said three dimensional presentation.

3. The display assembly as recited in claim 2, wherein said backer panel has an array of diagonally disposed through-cut lines arranged therein to permit said backer panel and said work of art to be further formed into said three dimensional display presentation.

4. The display assembly as recited in claim 1, including a curvilinearly formed backer panel insert arranged within an upper end of said housing on said rear side of said window frame, to provide support to the upper end of said display panel assembly in said housing on said window frame.

5. The display assembly as recited in claim 4, including a controllable electrically empowered light arrangement attached to said backer panel insert to provide directable light to a display within said window display assembly.

6. The display assembly as recited in claim 4, wherein said backer panel insert comprises an inverted trough shaped member, having a shaped rear panel which conforms in shape to said backer panel in its three-dimensional shape at its upper end thereof.

7. A method of converting a planar work of art into a three dimensional display presentation comprising:

arranging said work of art onto a front side of a correspondingly sized rectilinearly shaped backer panel;
making a pair of spaced apart, longitudinally extending generally mid-centered, parallel score lines onto a rear side of said backer panel,
making a further score line into said backer panel at a lower end transverse of said parallel score lines;
cutting a diagonal cut completely through said backer panel and said work of art on the front side of said panel from the ends of said further transverse score lines to respective adjacent corners of said backer panel; and
bending said backer panel and said work of art on the front side of said backer panel along said score lines, to as to form said panel and work of art into a three dimensional display presentation.

8. The method as recited in claim 7, including:

inserting said three dimensional display presentation into a housing on the rear side of a window frame assembly for effective display of said work of art.

9. The method as recited in claim 8,

inserting a three dimensionally shaped backer panel insert within said housing at an upper end thereof, to provide support to said backer panel and said work of art at an upper end thereof within said housing.
