Surfers' Brush

This invention is a brush designed to remove sand from skin and sporting equipment. It is made of durable design and materials, and manufactured to be economical and appealing to the beachside marketplace. It is of convenient size and has a double-sided head with softer bristles on one side which are most effective on skin and finer types of sand, and firmer bristles on the other side which are most effective on sporting equipment and coarser types of sand.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The field of the invention is brushes and the invention relates more specifically to the purpose of removing sand from skin and from sporting equipment. Sand tends to stick to beach chairs, surfboards, and other sporting equipment, as well as human skin. The use of buckets or bottles of water can be clumsy, and after use, the wet items often attract more sand. And, such buckets or bottles are not always readily available. The use of towels to rub-off sand is rarely totally effective, since the fabric itself retains sand, and then the fabric deposits the sand back onto skin or into a car or wherever it is put next. What is needed is an item that will effectively remove sand without redepositing it elsewhere, a durable item that can be conveniently accessed and economically produced.

In the prior art, there is a Beach Brush described in U.S. Pat. No. 5,485,649. It is described as having a broader range of use including use on animal fur, and as having a design which is more complex including moving parts. The present invention, the Surfers' Brush, effectively accomplishes sand removal from skin and equipment with only two types of bristle stiffness. The omission of the adjustable features results in no loss of the capability of removing sand from the more specific articles mentioned. The present invention is an improvement to the Beach Brush for at least three reasons: First, the Surfers' Brush does not have moving parts that can potentially break and render the brush inoperable or less effective; Second, the Surfers' Brush has a simpler design that can be manufactured more easily and inexpensively, thereby having more potential in the typical beachside convenience store marketplace; Third, the Surfers' Brush has a flat-handle which can easily be produced in attractive sporting colors, such as Red, Aqua Blue, Neon Orange, Neon Green, Neon Yellow, Neon Pink, etc., thereby also contributing to its marketability.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The object of the present invention is to provide a brush that effectively removes sand from skin and sporting equipment such as surfboards and beach chairs, is comfortable to the skin, durable, attractive, and economic enough for the beachside marketplace. The present invention is a brush with a simple handle made of plastic that can be fabricated in attractive sporting colors and with a double-sided brush-head having bristles of two different stiffnesses, one on each side.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING

FIG. 1. is a side view of the present invention brush.

FIG. 2. is a view of the softer-bristled or top side of the brush of FIG. 1.

FIG. 3. is a view of the firmer-bristled or bottom side of the brush of FIG. 1.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The present invention is a brush with a simple handle made of plastic that can be fabricated in attractive sporting colors, and with bristles of two different stiffnesses, one on each side of the brush-head. The softer bristles will be comfortable to the skin and effective for finer types of sand, found for example on Gulf beaches. A Shore hardness near 60 would be sufficient for this purpose. The firmer bristles will be more effective on sporting equipment and for coarser types of sand, found for example on Ocean beaches. A Shore hardness near 70 would be sufficient for this purpose. To keep the cost of manufacturing down, and to facilitate use in crevices, such as the curves in the metal frames of beach chairs, this set of bristles is smaller. It will also be most cost-efficient for the bristles to be of a consistent length. The brush-handle will be made of plastic rather than wood, which would absorb moisture, or metal, which would tarnish or rust. The general size of the brush will be such that it would be convenient to carry in a beach bag or store in a car's glove-box, about the size of an adult person's hand. The Figures below are meant to be conceptual, not exact to scale nor shape. These descriptors are meant to be illustrative, not restrictive; the scope of the invention being indicated by the Claims not the details of construction.

Claims

1. A brush for removing sand from skin and sporting equipment, said brush comprising: a handle portion having thin left and right sides and a flat top and bottom; and, a head portion having a full set of softer bristles on one side and a half set of firmer bristles on the other side; and, the handle portion and the head portion are both straight along the longitudinal axis with no angle on handle nor head, with the bristles perpendicular to the longitudinal axis on each side of the head portion.

2. Said brush of claim 1 is of a simple design meaning there are no moving parts which can potentially break or be obstructed by sand.

3. Said brush of claim 1 has both handle and head portions which are manufactured economically in plastic which is better suited for use in salt-water environments than either metal or wood.
