Golf Club Head that Reduces a Contact Resistance with the Ground

A golf club head includes a head body having a grounding face. The grounding face has a front portion and a rear portion. The rear portion of the grounding face is formed with a recessed portion. The recessed portion is provided with at least one protruding boss. Thus, the contact area between the grounding face of the head body and the ground is reduced largely by provision of the recessed portion to reduce the friction and resistance of the grounding face of the head body and to increase the striking force of the head body so as to increase the travel distance of the golf ball and to increase the striking effect of the head body.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a golf club head and, more particularly, to a golf club head that reduces a contact resistance with the ground.

2. Description of the Related Art

A conventional golf club head in accordance with the prior art shown in FIGS. 4 and 5 comprises a head body 1 having a side provided with a striking face 12 and a bottom provided with a grounding face 11. In operation, when the striking face 12 of the head body 1 is driven by the user to hit a golf ball 2, the grounding face 11 of the head body 1 contacts the ground 3. However, the grounding face 11 of the head body 1 has a whole surface contacting the ground 3 so that the contact area between the grounding face 11 of the head body 1 and the ground 3 is increased largely to increase the friction and resistance of the grounding face 11 of the head body 1 applied by the ground 3 and to decrease the force of the head body 1 applying on the golf ball 2, thereby decreasing the travel distance of the golf ball 2, and thereby decreasing the striking effect of the head body 1.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a golf club head, comprising a head body having a bottom provided with a grounding face. The grounding face of the head body has a front portion and a rear portion located beside the front portion. The rear portion of the grounding face of the head body is formed with a recessed portion. The recessed portion of the grounding face of the head body is provided with at least one protruding boss.

The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a golf club head that efficiently reduces a contact resistance with the ground.

Another objective of the present invention is to provide a golf club head, wherein the contact area between the grounding face of the head body and the ground is reduced largely by provision of the recessed portion of the grounding face of the head body to reduce the friction and resistance of the grounding face of the head body and to increase the striking force of the head body so as to increase the travel distance of the golf ball and to increase the striking effect of the head body.

A further objective of the present invention is to provide a golf club head, wherein the protruding bosses provide a support between the grounding face of the head body and the ground so that the head body is driven to strike the golf ball exactly and stably, thereby enhancing stability of operation of the head body.

A further objective of the present invention is to provide a golf club head, wherein each of the protruding bosses has a specific gravity different from that of the head body to change a center of gravity of the head body so that the head body has different ball striking effects by changing the specific gravity of each of the protruding bosses, thereby facilitating the user operating the head body.

Further benefits and advantages of the present invention will become apparent after a careful reading of the detailed description with appropriate reference to the accompanying drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Referring to the drawings and initially to FIGS. 1 and 2, a golf club head in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises a head body 4 made of iron material and having a side provided with a striking face 45 and a bottom provided with a grounding face 41. The grounding face 41 of the head body 4 has a front portion 43 and a rear portion located beside the front portion 43. The rear portion of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 is formed with a recessed portion 42. The grounding face 41 of the head body 4 has a mediate portion formed with a stepped shoulder 46 located between the front portion 43 and the recessed portion 42.

The recessed portion 42 of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 is provided with at least one protruding boss 44. Preferably, The recessed portion 42 of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 is provided with a plurality of protruding bosses 44 which are spaced from each other. The recessed portion 42 of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 is located at a height greater than that of the front portion 43 of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4. The recessed portion 42 and the front portion 43 of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 have a height differential at least greater than 1 mm (millimeter).

The protruding bosses 44 are fixed on the recessed portion 42 of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 by press, welding, brazing, screwing or casting. The protruding bosses 44 are arrange in a line and are spaced from each other equally. Alternatively, the protruding bosses 44 are arrange in an oblique line or arc-shaped manner. Each of the protruding bosses 44 has a substantially semi-spherical (oblong, elongated or irregular) cross-sectional profile and has a specific gravity different from that of the head body 4 to change a center of gravity of the head body 4. Each of the protruding bosses 44 can be processed by a surface treatment. Each of the protruding bosses 44 has a bottom located at a height equal to that of a bottom of the front portion 43 of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4. The protruding bosses 44 occupy an area that is smaller than 30% (thirty percent) of that of the front portion 43 of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4.

In operation, when the striking face 45 of the head body 4 is driven by the user to hit a golf ball 5, the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 contacts the ground 6. At this time, only the front portion 43 and the protruding bosses 44 of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 contact the ground 6, and the protruding bosses 44 occupy an area that is smaller than 30% of that of the front portion 43 of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 so that the contact area between the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 and the ground 6 is reduced largely to reduce the friction and resistance of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 applied by the ground 6 and to increase the force of the head body 4 applying on the golf ball 5 so as to increase the travel distance of the golf ball 5 and to increase the striking effect of the head body 4. In addition, the protruding bosses 44 provide a support between the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 and the ground 6 so that the head body 4 is driven to strike the golf ball 5 exactly and stably, thereby enhancing stability of operation of the head body 4.

In addition, each of the protruding bosses 44 has a specific gravity different from that of the head body 4 to change a center of gravity of the head body 4. In such a manner, when each of the protruding bosses 44 has a specific gravity greater from that of the head body 4, the head body 4 has a lower center of gravity, and the golf ball 5 is traveled at a greater height. On the contrary, when each of the protruding bosses 44 has a specific gravity smaller from that of the head body 4, the head body 4 has a higher center of gravity, and the golf ball 5 is traveled at a smaller height. Thus, the head body 4 has different ball striking effects by changing the specific gravity of each of the protruding bosses 44, thereby facilitating the user operating the head body 4.

In addition, each of the protruding bosses 44 can be processed by a surface treatment so that each of the protruding bosses 44 is wear-resistant and has a smaller resistance, thereby enhancing the functions of the head body 4.

As shown in FIG. 3, the head body 7 is made of wooden material, and the recessed portion 72 of the grounding face 71 of the head body 7 is provided with a plurality of protruding bosses 73. The protruding bosses 73 are arrange in arc-shaped manner. Each of the protruding bosses 73 has a substantially oblong cross-sectional profile.

Accordingly, the contact area between the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 and the ground 6 is reduced largely by provision of the recessed portion 42 of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 to reduce the friction and resistance of the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 and to increase the striking force of the head body 4 so as to increase the travel distance of the golf ball 5 and to increase the striking effect of the head body 4. In addition, the protruding bosses 44 provide a support between the grounding face 41 of the head body 4 and the ground 6 so that the head body 4 is driven to strike the golf ball 5 exactly and stably, thereby enhancing stability of operation of the head body 4. Further, each of the protruding bosses 44 has a specific gravity different from that of the head body 4 to change a center of gravity of the head body 4 so that the head body 4 has different ball striking effects by changing the specific gravity of each of the protruding bosses 44, thereby facilitating the user operating the head body 4.

Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment(s) as mentioned above, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the scope of the present invention. It is, therefore, contemplated that the appended claim or claims will cover such modifications and variations that fall within the true scope of the invention.

Claims

1. A golf club head, comprising a head body having a bottom provided with a grounding face; wherein

the grounding face of the head body has a front portion and a rear portion located beside the front portion;
the rear portion of the grounding face of the head body is formed with a recessed portion;
the recessed portion of the grounding face of the head body is provided with at least one protruding boss.

2. The golf club head in accordance with claim 1, wherein the recessed portion and the front portion of the grounding face of the head body have a height differential at least greater than 1 mm (millimeter).

3. The golf club head in accordance with claim 1, wherein the recessed portion of the grounding face of the head body is provided with a plurality of protruding bosses which are spaced from each other.

4. The golf club head in accordance with claim 1, wherein the grounding face of the head body has a mediate portion formed with a stepped shoulder located between the front portion and the recessed portion.

5. The golf club head in accordance with claim 1, wherein the recessed portion of the grounding face of the head body is located at a height greater than that of the front portion of the grounding face of the head body.

6. The golf club head in accordance with claim 3, wherein the protruding bosses are fixed on the recessed portion of the grounding face of the head body.

7. The golf club head in accordance with claim 3, wherein the protruding bosses are arrange in a line.

8. The golf club head in accordance with claim 3, wherein the protruding bosses are spaced from each other equally.

9. The golf club head in accordance with claim 3, wherein each of the protruding bosses has a substantially semi-spherical cross-sectional profile.

10. The golf club head in accordance with claim 3, wherein each of the protruding bosses has a specific gravity different from that of the head body to change a center of gravity of the head body.

11. The golf club head in accordance with claim 3, wherein each of the protruding bosses can be processed by a surface treatment.

12. The golf club head in accordance with claim 3, wherein each of the protruding bosses has a bottom located at a height equal to that of a bottom of the front portion of the grounding face of the head body.

13. The golf club head in accordance with claim 3, wherein the protruding bosses occupy an area that is smaller than 30% (thirty percent) of that of the front portion of the grounding face of the head body.

14. The golf club head in accordance with claim 3, wherein

when the striking face of the head body is driven to hit a golf ball, the grounding face of the head body contacts a ground;
only the front portion and the protruding bosses of the grounding face of the head body contact the ground.

15. The golf club head in accordance with claim 3, wherein the protruding bosses are arrange in arc-shaped manner.

16. The golf club head in accordance with claim 3, wherein each of the protruding bosses has a substantially oblong cross-sectional profile.
