Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of Invention

The present invention applies to both zip up and pull over type sweatshirts. The two designs are the same with the exception of a small triangular material piece at the front of the pull-over sweatshirt that allow for expansion as the sweatshirt is pulled over the head (see FIG. 0009).

2. Description of Related Art

Hooded sweatshirts are produced as zipper front or pull over. The hoods are constructed of various weight materials, but even the thickest, due to the way they are attached, can not be adequately pushed to the side or back to form a soft pillow like surface. Consequently, a need has been identified for a sweatshirt with a padded, two-way zipper that can be both worn as a fashion or utility item and used as a pillow or neck support—most especially when traveling, hiking, camping, waiting in public places, as well as for sports teams (high school, college, professional). The development of the padded, two-way zipper hooded sweatshirt fulfills this need.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

This is a hooded sweatshirt, with the hood being padded, attached by a two way zipper. The two-way zipper allows the wearer to unzip the hood and bring it to one side or the other (depending on the direction unzipped) without becoming unattached. This allows the wearer to fold, roll, ball, or crumple up the entire hood and create a small pillow to lean or rest against. The padding in the hood creates a pillow-like cushion.

Use

The hood can be unzipped in either direction to create a pillow for either the left or right side. It can be used while sitting up and leaning to the side, such as a passenger in a car, truck, bus, train, or plane, or as a cushion while sitting on a bench or the ground. It can also be used as a pillow while lying down or sleeping. When lying down on one's back, such as when camping or hiking, both sides can be unzipped towards the middle to create a larger pillow in the middle (see FIG. 10). The padded hood also can be rolled down to create a neck support while driving or lying down. This invention is not limited to the ideas mentioned above, but rather can be used in any way, and at any time the wearer desires a soft place to lay their head.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PICTURES

FIG. 1 shows a side view of a zipper front sweatshirt with padded hood, attached by a two-way zipper 2.

FIG. 2 shows a front view of a sweatshirt (unattached) hood 1, two way zipper 2, and sweatshirt body 3.

FIG. 3 shows a side view of (unattached) hood 1, two-way zipper 2 and sweatshirt body 3.

FIG. 4 shows both zippers being unzipped toward the middle, showing how the two-way zipper 2 allows the hood to be unzipped in either direction and not become unattached from the sweatshirt. Notice the zipper cover flap 4.

FIG. 5 shows the two way zipper 2 being unzipped to the left, demonstrating how the two way zipper allows the hood to be unzipped completely to one side while still leaving the hood attached. Notice the zipper cover flap 4.

FIG. 6 show the two way zipper 2 being unzipped to the right, demonstrating how the two way zipper allows the hood to be unzipped completely to one side while still leaving the hood attached. Notice the zipper cover flap 4.

FIG. 7 shows three layers of the hood: lining 6, with zipper cover flap 4 attached, padding 5, and outer shell 1.

FIG. 8 shows the outer shell 1 pulled back exposing the padding 5.

FIG. 9 shows the pullover sweatshirt. The construction of the hood is the same, and it is also attached by a two way zipper 2. The only difference is the triangle of material at the front of the neck 7, to allow for expansion as sweatshirt is pulled over the head.

FIG. 10 shows the sweatshirt with both sides of the two way zipper 2 unzipped towards the middle to create a pillow in the middle. FIG. 10 also shows the flap that is used to cover the zipper, thus preventing the wearer's neck from irritation 4.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The present invention is a sweatshirt with a padded hood attached by a two way zipper. The invention applies to both zipper front (FIG. 4) and pull over (FIG. 9) sweatshirts. The sweatshirt is what would be considered a “regular” sweatshirt, having a body and two sleeves (FIG. 1). Sweatshirt materials may vary in weight or fabric.

The hood will be attached by a two way zipper (FIG. 2), which allows the hood to be unzipped in either direction: to the left (FIG. 5), to the right (FIG. 6), or both sides to the middle (FIG. 2).

The hood will consist of three layers: the outer layer, a middle layer of poly fiber padding, and an inner layer to sandwich the padding (FIG. 7). The base of the hood will have a flap (FIG. 10) which will cover the zipper to prevent the zipper from rubbing on the wearer's neck.

The pull over sweatshirt will have a patch of material in the front to allow for expansion as sweatshirt is pulled on over the head(FIG. 9) Displayed is a triangle of material.

Claims

1. A sweatshirt with a padded hood attached by a two way zipper. The two way zipper allowing the hood to be unzipped to either side or to the middle without becoming unattached.

2. The hood of said sweatshirt of claim 1 will be comprised of three layers, an outer shell made of material similar to that of said sweatshirt, a middle layer made of polyfiber, and an inner layer also made of material similar to said sweatshirt.

3. The hood of the said sweatshirt of claim 1 will be attached by a two way zipper at the base of the neck.

4. On the pull over model of said sweatshirt of claim 1 a piece of material will separate each end of the zipper at the front of the sweatshirt, thus allowing for expansion as the sweatshirt is pulled over the head.

5. A flap of material at the base of the inside of the hood as said in claim 2 will cover the zipper to prevent the zipper from rubbing on the wearer's neck.
