Bucket style outdoor swing seat cover

A bucket style outdoor swing seat cover is disclosed. This device provides protection for infants/toddlers against the extremely hot surface generated by the sun on the seat, and the inherent germs left behind on the swing seat from previous use by other infants/toddlers. This device is comprised of a low loft batting covered by cloth material on either side of the batting constituting 3 layers of protection, adjustable nylon/VELCRO fasteners and elastic hems to create a more “snug” fit.

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61/015,421 filed Dec. 20, 2007, which is incorporated herein in its entirety.

FIELD AND BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention is a fitted, cloth bucket style outdoor swing seat cover, which is made up of the following required elements: (1) cloth material; (2) elastic; (3) battling; (4) nylon straps; and (5) VELCRO fasteners. These elements are connected as follows: batting is sewn between two layers of cloth material. VELCRO fasteners are sewn onto nylon straps. Nylon straps are sewn into top seam of cover. Elastic bands are sewn into the top seam where the nylon/VELCRO fasteners are attached. It should be further noted that: (a) the seat cover can be made of various materials, such as but not limited to plastic or a disposable material, but cloth is preferable; (b) the VELCRO closure can be made of various materials, such as but not limited to snap closures or hooks, but VELCRO is preferable; (c) the batting liner can be made of various materials, such as but not limited to foam, but batting is preferable; (d) nylon straps can be made of various materials, such as but not limited to strings, or a cotton blend strap, but nylon straps are preferable.

The cover slides down into the bucket swing aligning the leg holes with the swing leg holes. The front and the back sections of the seat cover fold over the front and back sections of the bucket swing. The adjustable nylon/VELCRO fasteners attach on both the left and right sides of the bucket swing. The elasticized hem allows the cover to fit snuggly around the front and the back of the bucket swing.

This cover prevents the heat of the swing from burning the child's legs and also keeps germs off of the child by covering the areas where small children most likely put their hands and mouth.

One of the things that make the present invention unique is the “adjustable” nylon/VELCRO fasteners on each side of the cover. This allows for the cover to fit snuggly around the outside of the bucket swing. Without these “adjustable” fasteners, the cover would not be able to fit around the large metal attachments that connect the bucket swing to the chain. This specific detail is what sets this cover apart from the current prior art.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

Reference is now made to the drawings. In the drawings:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the cover in use with an infant in a bucket style outdoor swing.

FIG. 2 is a perspective view showing the cover (50) in the “opened” position locating element as listed: elasticized hem (10); nylon straps (20); VELCRO fasteners (30) and a layer of low loft batting (40).

FIG. 3 is a view of the cover (50) in the “opened” position showing the location of the layer of batting (40).

FIG. 4 is a plain view of an elasticized hem (10) and adjustable nylon straps (20) with attached VELCRO fasteners (30) for a bucket style outdoor swing seat cover according to the embodiment of the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Referring now to FIG. 1, there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the present invention, showing the cover used with an infant in a bucket style outdoor swing.

As shown in FIG. 2, the cover has two layers of cloth material (50) lined with low loft batting (40). The adjustable nylon straps (20) with VELCRO fasteners (30) are sewn into the top and bottom elastic hem (10) to provide the most secure fit possible.

Referring now to FIG. 3, there is illustrated the body (50) of the cover in an “opened” position. The cover has a low loft batting (40) lined in between two layers of cloth material to provide added comfort to the user. As shown in FIG. 4, this illustration shows the elasticized hem (10) that runs across the top front and top back of the cover to provide a better “stretch” when securing the cover to the swing. Also shown in FIG. 4 are two adjustable nylon straps (20) with VELCRO fasteners (30) sewn onto the straps. The nylon straps can be attached, detached and reattached to create the best fit possible around the circumference of the swing.

Claims

1. A bucket style outdoor swing seat cover comprising:

a cloth material portion that is the body of the product;
a batting liner that is sewn in between the cloth material to provide comfort to the user;
a nylon strap portion for attaching the body of the cover to each side of the bucket swing;
a VELCRO portion that is sewn onto the nylon straps connecting the two straps to help hold the cover securely in place.
