DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

To overcome the issues with prior children's toys which are not educational nor imaginatively stimulating, a combination stuffed toy which has characteristics of multiple kinds of entities has been developed. In some embodiments, the combination stuffed toy has characteristics of both an animal and a plant. In other embodiments, the combination stuffed toy has characteristics of both a musical instrument and an animal such as an eleflute (elephant plus flute). In yet other embodiments, additional combinations of entities are possible such as foods and animals, for example, a gnoodle (gnu plus noodle). In yet other embodiments, an object-animal toy includes a star-bengalled banner (star-spangled banner plus bengal). Although plant-animal combination toys are described further herein, the following applies to any combination of entities within a combination stuffed toy.

Plant-animal combination toys combine plant features and animal features to form a plant-animal combination. Plant features include plants, trees, fruits, vegetables and any other plant life. Animal features include any living animal or extinct animal such as dinosaurs. One of the main benefits of plant-animal combination toys is that they enable children to learn about plants and animals. Preferably, plant-animal combination toys utilize a literary art referred to as portmanteau. Portmanteau refers to forming a word by combining the sounds and meanings of two different words. Each of the plant-animal combination toys are portmanteau words since they combine a plant and an animal into a single object whose appearance is representative of both the plant and the animal. Furthermore, plant-animal combination toys are formed where part of the plant and part of the animal sound similar/same or are spelled similarly/same. For example, a pumpkitten plant-animal combination toy combines a pumpkin and a kitten because the last syllable of pumpkin, “kin” has a similar sound to the first syllable of kitten, “kit.” In some embodiments, having a similar sound includes at least one syllable sounding similar. In some embodiments, having a similar sound includes the pronunciation of two letters the same such as “ki” in pumpkin and “ki” in kitten. In some embodiments, the similar sounds are at the end of the first word and the beginning of the second word, such as pumpkitten. In some embodiments, the similar sounds are able to be anywhere in either of the words. Porcupineapple is an example where a porcupine and a pineapple are combined where they share the “pine” syllable as well as sharing a component spelled similarly or the same. In some embodiments, having similar spelling includes a sequence of at least two letters being the same such as “pine” in porcupine and pineapple for porcupineapple or “mon” in persimmon and monkey for persimmonkey. In some embodiments, having similar spelling includes a sequence of at least three letters being the same. Porcupineapple and persimmonkey are again examples of such.

For children and adults, plant-animal combination toys are able to bring imaginative enjoyment by combining a plant and an animal into one object. The overall appearance of the plant-animal combination toys are highly decorative and creative. Initially, when a person sees a plant-animal combination toy, he/she typically needs to think to determine what plant and what animal are combined to form the plant-animal combination toy. For the most part, simple stuffed animals look like the animal they are meant to represent which requires very little thought even for a child. By the age of two, many toddlers are able to recognize a “bear” stuffed animal when pointed to by a parent, thereby providing little intellectual stimulation for anyone older than two. However, when first discovering a plant-animal combination toy, even adults do not immediately know what the object is, therefore requiring thought processes. For example, when looking at the exemplary plant-animal combination toy in FIG. 1, most likely it is not immediately clear that the object is a pineapple combined with a porcupine, referred to as a porcupineapple. Thus, the plant-animal combination toy provides intellectual stimulation for a much larger group than simple stuffed animals.

Furthermore, plant-animal combination toys also provide intellectual stimulation in that once a child or adult sees a plant-animal combination toy and understands the concept of combining a plant with an animal, typically he/she will try to mimic the concept and come up with his/her own plant-animal combination toys. For example, if a parent shows a plant-animal combination toy to a child and the child understands the concept, the parent and child are able to play a game of one saying a plant and the other coming up with an animal that is able to fit with the plant to form a plant-animal combination toy according to the specifications described above. Another game is for people, preferably of similar ages, to see who is able to come up with the most plant-animal combination toys not already in existence.

As described above, each of the plant-animal combination toys itself is a kind of literary art referred to as portmanteau. Therefore, plant-animal combination toys are a creative way to teach children and adults about an important aspect of the English language. Lewis Carroll's famous poem, Jabberwocky, utilizes portmanteau throughout; however, some people do not understand or do not enjoy the complexity of the poem. Plant-animal combination toys are a much simpler way of illustrating and explaining portmanteau. Furthermore, plant-animal combination toys enable parents to generate an interest in the English language in their children at a young age.

In addition to the intellectual uses of plant-animal combination toys, they are able to bring personal enjoyment through other means as well. Plant-animal combination toys are able to be used as toys. Plant-animal combination toys are able to be used as decorations. A room filled with plant-animal combination toys not only adds plant life to the room but wildlife as well. Plant-animal combination toys are able to be used as pillows for resting or for a sense of security when one needs to hold onto something. Plant-animal combination toys are also able to be collected.

FIG. 1 illustrates a side isometric view of an exemplary plant-animal combination toy 100. The exemplary plant-animal combination toy 100 in FIG. 1 is a porcupineapple which combines a porcupine and a pineapple. The plant-animal combination toy 100 includes a plant component 102 and an animal component 104. While there are two components, the plant component 102 and the animal component 104, the plant-animal combination toy 100 still preferably closely resembles both the plant and the animal, such that a person is able to determine the plant and the animal from which the plant-animal combination toy is derived. Furthermore, although the plant component 102 and the animal component 104 are able to be separately distinguished, one plant-animal combination toy is also able to be recognized. For example, plant-animal combination toys are not simply an animal holding a plant or eating a plant; rather, the plant and animal are joined together to form a plant-animal combination toy. For this exemplary plant-animal combination toy 100, the head and feet are standard porcupine parts, and the body and tail are a pineapple. The plant component 102 and the animal component 104 form a cover which contains stuffing material. In some embodiments, the plant component 102 and the animal component 104 are made from the same material, and in some embodiments, they are made from different materials. In some embodiments, the materials used for each component are representative of the plant and/or animal. Preferably, the materials used are plush. In some embodiments, other materials besides plush are used such as other fabrics or leather. In some embodiments, the materials contain a texture such as a sticky texture, a rough texture, a soft or hard texture to represent an object with that feature. In some embodiments, the texture of the plant component 102 is different from the texture of the animal component 104. Additionally, in some embodiments, the color of each component is able to contribute to identifying the representative identity. For example, a mint green color is useful in identifying the mint leaves as ears of an otherwise green-colored elemint.

FIG. 2 illustrates a side cross-sectional view of an exemplary plant-animal combination toy 100. As described above, the plant-animal combination toy 100 includes a plant component 102 and an animal component 104. The plant component 102 and the animal component 104 form a cover which contains stuffing material 106. The stuffing material 106 is able to be any kind of stuffing such as polyfiber filling, feathers, cotton, sand, beans and pellets. The stuffing material 106 is inserted into any desired locations.

FIG. 3 illustrates a side isometric view of an exemplary plant-animal combination toy 300. The exemplary plant-animal combination toy 300 in FIG. 3 is an elemint which combines an elephant and mint. The plant-animal combination toy 300 includes a plant component 302 and an animal component 304. For this exemplary plant-animal combination toy 300, the ears, tip of tail and near the tusks are mint leaves and the body, legs, tusks, head and trunk are standard elephant parts.

FIG. 4 illustrates a flowchart of a process of manufacturing a combination toy. In the step 400, a cover is generated. The cover is generated by coupling together multiple components representing multiple entities such as a plant component and an animal component, or whatever entities the components are. In some embodiments, each of the plant component and the animal component comprise more than one piece of material, and in some embodiments, they each comprise a single piece of material. Preferably, the cover is generated of fabric, and the plant and animal components are coupled by stitching. However, in alternative embodiments, the cover is of other materials such as leather for a cow in a cowlrabi (cow plus kohlrabi). As described above, the material of the plant and animal components are able to be the same or different. Furthermore, the mechanism for coupling the plant and animal components is also able to be something other than stitching including but not limited to glue, staples, a zipper, string, buttons and hook and loop material such as Velcro®. In the step 402, stuffing material is inserted into the cover. Preferably, the stuffing material is polyfiber filling. Preferably, the polyfiber filling is stuffed into the cover until the combination toy is of an appropriate density. The polyfiber filling is able to be inserted using other methods as well. Furthermore, other types of stuffing material are able to be used as well including, but not limited to feathers, cotton, sand, beans and pellets. These stuffing materials are inserted appropriately, such as by pouring the sand into the cover. In some embodiments, multiple parts of the combination toy are filled separately such as a head, feet, arms or other parts. Additionally, different stuffing materials are able to be used for different parts of each combination toy. For instance, feet of a combination toy are able to contain sand while the body of the combination toy contains polyfiber filling, so that the feet dangle yet the body remains soft. Internal wiring is also able to be included if desired and/or appropriate. For example, for a gingeraffe (ginger plus giraffe) which is able to have long legs and a long neck, it may be desirable to utilize internal wiring to support the legs and neck. In some embodiments, additional steps are utilized to manufacture the combination toy. For example, a head, feet, legs, arms and/or other body parts are generated separately and are then coupled to the body. Objects are able to represent plant and animal features, such as buttons to represent eyes.

The parts of each plant-animal combination toy that correspond to a plant and the parts that correspond to an animal depend on the specific plant-animal combination toy. The objective is for the plant-animal combination toy to maintain a realistic appearance. For some plant-animal combination toys, replacing the ears of the animal with the plant is preferable. For some plant-animal combination toys, replacing the body or another body part is better. Furthermore, some plant-animal combination toys are able to have different plant-animal configurations. For example, a lemonkey (lemon plus monkey) in one configuration has a lemon abdomen with the rest of the body looking like a regular monkey. In another configuration, the mouth of the monkey is two lemon halves and a lemon is attached at the end of the tail, while the rest of the monkey is standard.

In some embodiments, more than one plant and/or more than one animal is able to be included in the plant-animal combination toy such as an eelemint which is a combination of an eel, an elephant and mint. Furthermore, in some embodiments, the number of entities is not limited to two, for example, a combination toy is able to include a plant, an animal and a musical instrument.

Other examples of plant-animal combination toys include, but are not limited to, a bananaconda (banana+anaconda), a persimmonkey (persimmon+monkey), a pumpkitten (pumkin+kitten), a watermelion (watermelon+lion), a tigarlic (tiger+garlic), a puppeanut (puppy+peanut), a puppea (puppy+pea), a celereses monkey (celery+rhesus monkey), a lionion (lion+onion), a lamboo (lamb+bamboo), a carrat (carrot+rat), a gingerman shepherd (ginger+german shepherd), a potatomcat (potato+tomcat), a daizebra (daisy+zebra), a salmoney tree (salmon+money tree), a donkiwi (donkey+kiwi), an antaloupe (ant+cantaloupe), a cantalope (cantaloupe+antalope), a bassparilla (bass+sarsparilla), a bassberry (bass+raspberry), an oreganotan (oregano+orangutan), a kohlrabbit (kohlrabi+rabbit), a broccolion (broccoli+lion), a cilantrout (cilantro+trout), a mangorilla (mango+gorilla), a celeray (celery+sting ray), a polar pear (polar bear+pear), a croccoli (crocodile+broccoli), a nectarhino (nectarine+rhino), a kangaroogula (kangaroo+arugula), a froget-me-not (frog+forget-me-not), a tree otter (tree+sea otter), a mulchure (mulch+vulture), a parrottree (parrot+tree), a centiweed (centipede+weed), a dandelion (dandelion+lion), a camelon (camel+melon), an appleloosa (apple+appaloosa horse), a blackbeary (black berry+black bear), a grizzly pear (grizzly bear+pear), a herbit crab (herb+hermit crab), a hammerhead bark (hammerhead shark+bark), a moosecherry (moose+goose berry), a turkey vulchard (turkey vulture+chard), a lycheetah (lychee+chetah), a pandaikon (panda+daikon), a gingkobra (gingko+king cobra), a chimpansy (chimpanzee, pansy), a bromilipede (bromeliad+milipede), a zebrussel sprouts (zebra+brussel sprouts), a mistletoad (mistletoe+toad), an orangutangerine (orangutan+tangerine), a chimplumzee (chimpanzee+plum), a flamango (flamingo+mango), a squirrelemon (squirrel+lemon), an apricottontail (apricot+cottontail rabbit), a pelicantaloupe (pelican+cantaloupe), a howler monkiwi (howler monkey+kiwi), a pearakeet (pear+parakeet), an armadillo (armadillo+dill), a hippopotamustard (hippopotamus+mustard), a black peopard (black pepper+leopard), a meercatsup (meerkat+catsup), an oreganoceros (oregano+rhinoceros), a cinnamonkey (cinnamon+monkey), a papricock (paprika+peacock), a coffeebara (coffee+capybara), a jaguartichoke (jaguar+artichoke), a kangarutabaga (kangaroo+rutabaga), a kangarhubarb (kangaroo+rhubarb), a kangaradish (kangaroo+radish), a platypussywillow (platypus+pussy willow), a gingkoala (gingko+koala), a green wallabean (green bean+wallaby), a plantypus (plant+platypus), a tomatoad (tomato+toad), an ottumip (otter+turnip), a macawliflour (macaw+cauliflower), a wombeet (wombat+beet), a bumblebeet (bumblebee+beet), a sealweed (seal+sea weed), a broctopus (broccoli+octopus), a seahorseradish (sea horse+horseradish), a crab apple (crab+crab apple), a whalenut (whale+walnut), a cranatee (cranberry+manatee), a carrotfish (carrot+parrotfish), a chocodile (chocolate+crocodile), a coconewt (coconut+newt), a mint chocolate chimp (mint chocolate chip+chimp), a sugarilla (sugar+gorilla), a nectarantula (nectarine+tarantula), a panda berry (panda bear+berry), a mosselot (moss+ocelot), a mossquito (moss+mosquito), a mosstrich (moss+ostrich), a mossprey (moss+osprey), a hippopotamoss (hippopotamus+moss), a rhinocemoss (rhinoceros+moss), a collieflour (collie+cauliflower), a rutabadger (rutabaga+badger), a pomegranape (pomegranate+ape), a pineoceros (pine+rhinoceros), a deer rice (deer mice+rice), a mangopher (mango+gopher), a jaguava (jaguar+guava), a picklelephant (pickle+elephant), a llama bean (llama+lima bean), a manta raisin (manta ray+raisin), a toucantaloupe (toucan+cantaloupe) and a leecheanut (leech+peanut).
