BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of Invention

This invention generally relates to bed sheets, and more particularly to a combination fitted bottom sheet, flat top sheet and pillow cases, wherein the sheets are split longitudinally along a generally medially disposed seam and with each half of each sheet comprising a different fabric for the purpose of providing two separate heating or texture properties, allowing for shared use of one bed by individuals who desire different temperature or fabric properties for their sleeping environment. The pillow cases are double sided, providing a choice of materials on each side of the pillow.

2. Prior Art

Customarily, a bed mattress is covered by a fitted bottom sheet which spans the top and sides of the mattress, wherein an elastic gather is used to pull taught the fitted bottom sheet at the sides or overlapping the bottom of the mattress. Upon the fitted sheet is placed a top (or cover) sheet, and upon that is placed a blanket or two, and a bedspread is usually placed thereover, as desired. This bedding arrangement is conventional and ubiquitous in bedding applications.

However, in many instances, where a bed is shared by two persons, the bed occupants have different temperature or fabric texture requirements and can only sleep comfortably if the bedclothes provide for a warmer or cooler environment, or a different fabric texture than may be desired by their sleep partner.

Accordingly, it would be extremely beneficial if somehow bedding could be designed such that a single bed could provide two separate temperature or textile zones thereby allowing two individuals with different sleep temperature or bedding material preferences comfortably to share the same bed.

SUMMARY

The present invention is a longitudinally divided fitted bottom bed sheet and flat top bed sheet combination wherein the fitted bottom and flat top bed sheets are each split along a generally medially disposed, longitudinally oriented seam to thereby provide two well demarcated, mutually separated and adjoining sleeping regions of the single bed to the satisfaction of those preferring to sleep in incompatible temperatures or in sheets of different materials or both. Double sided pillow cases wherein each side of the pillow is composed of a different material extends the benefits provided by the bed sheets to the pillows as well.

The advantage of the present invention is that individuals who desire to share the same bed but had difficulty doing so due to requiring a warmer or cooler sleeping environment than their partner, or who preferred a particular bed sheet material over another, may now share the same bed comfortably. This is particularly advantageous in that two sets of sheets will not have to be laundered for a shared bed. The flexibility in choice of material combinations for the bed sheets allows the bed sheets to accommodate a wide variety of temperature and fabric preferences.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION—FIRST EMBODIMENT—FIGS

One embodiment of the sheets is illustrated in FIG. 1 (top view of bottom sheet) and FIG. 2 (top view of top sheet). Both the fitted bottom sheet and flat top sheet are identical with the exception that an elastic gather (not shown) may be incorporated into the bottom sheet to pull the bottom sheet taught over the mattress.

The bottom sheet comprises a left hand panel 1 and a right hand panel 2, wherein each panel is composed of a different material to provide separate temperature or comfort qualities within the same sheet shared by two occupants of a bed. The top sheet similarly comprises a left hand panel 3 and right hand panel 4. The two halves of the bottom sheet 1 and 2, are joined by a seam 5 running down the center of the sheet. The two halves of the top sheet 3 and 4 are similarly joined by a central seam 5. The pillow, FIG. 2, is double sided, with one side 6 composed of one choice of material and the other side 7 composed of an alternative material.

In the preferred embodiment, the bottom bed sheet FIG. 1, top bed sheet FIG. 2 and pillow cases FIG. 3 are composed of ½ Polar Fleece (100% Polyester) and ½ Percale (50% Polyester, 50% Cotton) wherein the bottom bed sheet FIG. 1, will have a left hand panel 1 composed of Polar Fleece (100% Polyester) and a right hand panel 2 composed of Percale (50% Polyester and 50% Cotton). The top bed sheet will share the same composition as the bottom bed sheet and will have a left hand panel 3 composed of Polar Fleece (100% Polyester) and a right hand panel 4 composed of Percale (50% Polyester and 50% Cotton). The pillows FIG. 2, will similarly have one side 6 composed of Polar Fleece (100% Polyester) and the other side 7 composed of Percale (50% Polyester and 50% Cotton).

However, the bed sheets and pillow case can be composed of any combination of materials that provide separate comfort or temperature zones. For example, the bed sheets and pillow cases, while retaining the above configuration, may utilize the following material combinations: Polar Fleece (100% Polyester) and Satin (100% Polyester Satin); Polar Fleece (100% Polyester) and Flannelette; Satin (100% Polyester satin) and Percale (50% Polyester, 50% Cotton); Flannelette and Percale (50% Polyester, 50% Cotton); or Polar Fleece (100% Polyester) and Satin Charmeuse.

OPERATION—FIRST EMBODIMENT—FIGS

The manner of using the bed sheets is straightforward. The bottom bed sheet FIG. 1 will be available to fit standard mattress sizes. The user simply fits the bottom bed sheet FIG. 1 onto the mattress. A matching top bed sheet FIG. 2 is then placed on top of the bottom bed sheet FIG. 1, with the left hand panel 3 of the top bed sheet FIG. 2, resting on top of the left hand panel 1 of the bottom bed sheet FIG. 1, thereby creating a sleeping area, comprising one half of the bed, in which the material of the sheets used on one half of the bed differs from the material used on the other half of the bed. Pillows are simply selected by the occupant of the bed either to match the sheets used or based on material preference.

Conclusions, Ramifications, and Scope

Accordingly, the reader will see that, according to one embodiment of the invention I have provided, one panel of each of the bottom and top bed sheets and one side of the pillow cases is composed of a Polar Fleece (100% Polyester) and the other panel of the bottom and top sheet and reverse side of the pillow is composed of Percale (50% Polyester, 50% Cotton). While the above description contains a number of specifications, these should not be construed as limitations on the scope of any embodiment, but as exemplifications of the presently preferred embodiments thereof. Many other ramifications and variations are possible within the teachings of the various embodiments and the bed sheets can be made to accommodate various temperature or texture preferences of the occupants of a shared bed. Thus there is a wide variety of material combinations that may be incorporated into the dual comfort bed sheets and pillow cases. Thus the scope of the invention should be determined by the appended claims and their legal equivalents, and not by the examples given.
