END STOCK MAGAZINE STORAGE DEVICE

A magazine storage device is disclosed. The magazine storage device is part of an end stock assembly for a long gun and may have a plate that is formed to complement the shape of a magazine. The magazine storage device may secure a magazine in a recess. The magazine may be frictionally secured. The magazine may be flush with the end stock when inserted.

Description
BACKGROUND

1. Field of the Invention

The present application relates generally to firearms and more specifically to magazine storage devices connected to a firearm.

2. Description of the Related Art

Firearms such as long guns typically hold a plurality of cartridges in a magazine, which may be integrated into the firearm or may be detachable. Firearms with detachable magazines have the advantage of being quickly reloadable with another detachable magazine that is loaded with ammunition. As such, an operator of a firearm may carry extra magazines.

Typically, extra magazines may be carried in a pocket, bag, or case that is external to the firearm and/or firearm case, if present. Also, a firearm case may have space for one or more extra magazines.

Alternatively, a firearm may comprise a mechanism for holding one or more extra magazines, which may be convenient to an operator. Often, these mechanisms are attached to a firearm after manufacture and extend out from the attached portion of the firearm. Mechanisms that extend or protrude from a portion of a gun stock may be uncomfortable or inconvenient for an operator when operating the firearm. Further, a firearm case that is made to fit the unaltered firearm may not accommodate the additional mechanism requiring the removal of the mechanism prior to storage in the firearm case.

The present disclosure is directed to overcoming, or at least reducing the effects, of one or more of the issues set forth above.

SUMMARY

An embodiment of a magazine storage device is disclosed. The magazine storage device may comprise an insert that may have a magazine recess. The magazine recess may be configured to accept one magazine. The insert may be configured to be secured within an opening in a firearm end stock. The magazine recess may be configured to frictionally secure a magazine. The magazine storage device may further comprise a plate connected to the firearm end stock. A portion of the plate may have a substantially complementary shape to a magazine. The insert may have a plurality of magazine recesses, and each may be configured to accept a magazine.

An embodiment of an end stock is also disclosed. The end stock may comprise a body having a shoulder plate, a first opening in the body. The first opening may be positioned to one side of the shoulder plate and may be configured to secure a magazine. The body may further comprise a top portion and a lower portion, which may extend from the top portion. The lower portion may include the first opening. The top portion, and the lower portion may be formed as a single piece. The first opening may be formed within the single piece. The first opening may be configured to frictionally secure a magazine. The end stock may further comprise a middle portion that may be secured partially within the first opening. The first opening in the body may be configured to secure a magazine within the middle portion. The end stock may further comprise a plate. The plate may be molded to match a portion of the magazine. The end stock may further comprise a second opening configured to secure a magazine. The end stock may further comprise a plate that may substantially cover one side of the first and second openings and may have two contoured portions that each are substantially complementary to the contour of a portion of the magazine. The body may further comprise a top portion and a lower portion extending from the top portion. The first opening and the second opening may be formed into the lower portion. The magazine may be flush with the end stock when secured within the first opening.

An embodiment of a firearm is also disclosed. The firearm stock may comprise a firearm stock, a receiver connected to the firearm stock, and an end stock having a first side and a second side. The end stock may be connected to the firearm stock and may comprise a first recess. The first recess may extend from the first side toward the second side and may be configured to secure a magazine to the end stock. The recess may be configured to frictionally secure the magazine. The firearm may further comprise a plate connected to the end stock. The first recess may extend through the second side and the plate may be configured to connect to the first side to substantially cover the recess. The plate may be configured to connect to the second side to substantially cover the recess. The firearm may further comprise a second recess, which may be configured to secure a magazine. The firearm may be a .22 caliber long gun.

These and other embodiments of the present application will be discussed more fully in the description. The features, functions, and advantages can be achieved independently in various embodiments of the claimed invention, or may be combined in yet other embodiments.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

In the following description, reference is made to the accompanying drawings that form a part thereof, and in which is shown by way of illustration specific exemplary embodiments in which the invention may be practiced. These embodiments are described in sufficient detail to enable those skilled in the art to practice the invention, and it is to be understood that modifications to the various disclosed embodiments may be made, and other embodiments may be utilized, without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention. The following detailed description is, therefore, not to be taken in a limiting sense.

FIG. 1 perspective view of an embodiment of a firearm 100, including a firearm stock 120 having a forend 122 and a pistol grip 126, a receiver 110 connected to the firearm stock 120, a barrel 114 connected to the receiver 110 and to the firearm stock 120. A bolt 112 and a trigger group 124 may operatively connect to the receiver 110. The firearm 100 may be embodied by any of a plurality of suitable long guns, such as, for example, a .22 caliber rifle, a RUGER® 10/22®, a pump action shotgun, or another suitable long gun, as would be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art, given the benefit of this disclosure.

As illustrated in FIG. 1, the firearm 100 further comprises an embodiment of an end stock 130 in accordance with the current disclosure. The end stock 130 may connect to the firearm stock 120, such as, for example, by installing onto an end shaft (not shown) of the firearm stock 120. Alternatively, the end stock 130 may be connected to the firearm stock 120 with a fastener or may be connected directly to the receiver 110, as would be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art, given the benefit of this disclosure.

The end stock 120 comprises a top portion 134 that extends from the firearm stock 120 and connects to a shoulder plate 132 at an end, which may be placed on the shoulder of an operator when operating the firearm 100. A lever 131 may be actuated by an operator to allow the position of the end stock 130 to be changed, such as, for example, to extend the end stock 130 away from the firearm stock 120, adjusting the overall length of the firearm. The end stock 120 further comprises a magazine storage device 140 comprising a rear plate 142 that may be connected to the end stock 130 with a plurality of fasteners 144.

FIGS. 2A, 2B, and 2C illustrate an embodiment of an end stock 230 comprising an embodiment of a magazine storage device 240. FIG. 2A is a left side view and FIG. 2B is a right side view of the end stock 230. As shown, the end stock 230 comprises a top side 234 with a shoulder plate 232 at one end. The end stock 230 further comprises a magazine storage device 240, which comprises a front plate 246 and a rear plate 242 that are connected to the end stock 230 by a plurality of connectors 244. Also shown are magazine recesses 248, which are a complementary shape and size to a magazine 450 (shown in FIG. 4), such as a rotary magazine. The magazine recesses 248 are substantially the same, and thus, magazine 450 may be inserted into any of the magazine recesses 248 for storage. The magazine 450 may be frictionally held in place by one or more of the walls of the magazine recess 248.

FIG. 2C shows a cut away top view of the end stock 230 along the line 2C-2C (shown in FIG. 2A). As shown in FIG. 2C, the rear plate 242 may include a contour which may be substantially complementary to a contour of a side of the magazine 450. The magazine 450 may be flush with the front plate 246 when inserted into the magazine recess 248 and thus may be secured within the dimensions of the end stock 230. Alternatively, the front plate 246 may be a portion of a side of the end stock 230, and the magazine 450 may be substantially flush with the side of the end stock 230 when secured within the magazine recess 248.

A firearm 100 comprising the end stock 230 may hold a total of three magazines 450; two in the end stock 230 and one in the magazine port 116 (shown in FIG. 1). Further, because the magazines 450 may be held substantially within the external dimensions of a firearm 100, the firearm may be stored and/or transported in a firearm case with or without one or more magazines in the magazine storage device 240. In other embodiments of a magazine storage device 240, an alternative number of magazine recesses 248 may be included in the magazine storage device 240, such as a single magazine recess 248 or greater than two magazine recesses 248, as would be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art, given the benefit of this disclosure.

FIGS. 3A and 3B are perspective views of an embodiment of an end stock 330 comprising an embodiment of a magazine storage device 340. FIGS. 3A and 3B show a top portion 334 connected to a shoulder plate 332, a plurality of magazine recesses 348, a front plate 346, and a rear plate 342. The front and rear plates 346, 342 may be connected to the end stock 230 by a plurality of fasteners 344.

FIG. 4 is an exploded perspective view of an embodiment of an end stock 430 comprising an embodiment of a magazine storage device 440 from a similar perspective as FIG. 3A. The end stock 430 comprises a top portion 434 connected to a shoulder plate 432. Additionally, the end stock 430 comprises a front plate 446 and a rear plate 442 that may be connected by a plurality of connectors 444. The magazine 450 is also shown and may be inserted into and frictionally held by a magazine recess 448.

In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 4, magazine recesses 448 are included a lower portion which extends from the top portion 434 of the end stock 430. When installed the magazine 450 may be flush with the front plate 446. In some embodiments of a magazine storage device 440, the front and rear plates 446, 442 may be reversible so as to be able to connect to either the right side or the left side of the end stock 430 allowing magazines 450 to be inserted either from the right side or the left side of the end stock 430.

FIG. 5 is an exploded perspective view of an embodiment of an end stock 530 comprising an embodiment of a magazine storage device 540. The end stock 530 comprises a top portion 534 connected to a shoulder plate 532. A magazine 550 is also shown and may be inserted into a magazine recess 548. The magazine 550 may be frictionally secured by the magazine recess 548. Additionally, the end stock 530 comprises a front plate 546 and a rear plate 542.

In some alternative embodiments, the front plate 546 and/or the rear plate 542 may be integrated as part of the end stock 530. As such, the magazine recesses 548 would be closed recesses, extending from one side of the end stock 530 toward, but not through, the other side of the end stock 530. In such alternative embodiments, the magazine recess 548 would be substantially closed with respect to the magazine 550.

In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 5, a plurality of magazine recesses 548 are included in a middle portion 549 or insert that is separate from the end stock 530. The front and rear plates 546, 542 may be connected to the middle portion 549 and may capture the middle portion 549 within a lower portion that extends from the top portion 534 of the end stock 530. In some alternative embodiments, the middle portion 549 may be connected to a recess, or a wall, for example, under the top portion 534 and/or to the shoulder plate 532, or may be connected in another suitable configuration, as would be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art, given the benefit of this disclosure. Also, in some alternatively embodiments of a magazine storage device 540, the front plate 546 and/or the rear plate 542 may be part of the middle portion 549, as would be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art, given the benefit of this disclosure. Additionally, in some embodiments of a magazine storage device 540, the front and rear plates 546, 542 may be reversed so as to be able to connect to either the right side or the left side of the end stock 530.

Although various embodiments have been shown and described, the invention is not so limited and will be understood to include all such modifications and variations as would be apparent to one skilled in the art. For example, equivalent elements may be substituted for those specifically shown and described, certain features may be used independently of other features, and the number and configuration of various vehicle components described above may be altered, all without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Such adaptations and modifications should and are intended to be comprehended within the meaning and range of equivalents of the disclosed exemplary embodiments. It is to be understood that the phraseology of terminology employed herein is for the purpose of description and not of limitation. Accordingly, the foregoing description of the exemplary embodiments of the invention, as set forth above, are intended to be illustrative, not limiting. Various changes, modifications, and/or adaptations may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of this invention.

Claims

1. A magazine storage device comprising:

an insert having at least one magazine recess, the at least one magazine recess being configured to accept at least one magazine that is configured to be inserted into a magazine port of a firearm receiver,
wherein the insert is configured to be secured within an opening in a firearm end stock.

2. The magazine storage device of claim 1, wherein the at least one magazine recess is configured to frictionally secure at least one magazine.

3. The magazine storage device of claim 1, further comprising a plate connected to the firearm end stock, wherein at least a portion of the plate has a substantially complementary shape to at least one side of at least one magazine.

4. The magazine storage device of claim 1, wherein the insert has a plurality of magazine recesses, each configured to accept at least one magazine.

5. An end stock comprising:

a body having a shoulder plate;
a first opening in the body, the first opening being positioned to one side of the shoulder plate and being configured to secure at least one magazine,
wherein the first opening has a shape and contours that substantially mirror the shape and contours of a portion of the at least one magazine.

6. The end stock of claim 5, the body further comprising a top portion and a lower portion extending from the top portion, the lower portion including the first opening.

7. The end stock of claim 6, wherein the top portion, and the lower portion are formed as a single piece and the first opening is formed within the single piece.

8. The end stock of claim 5, wherein the first opening is configured to frictionally secure at least one magazine.

10. The end stock of claim 5, further comprising a plate, the plate being molded to match at least a portion of at least one magazine.

11. The end stock of claim 5, further comprising at least a second opening configured to secure at least one magazine.

12. The end stock of claim 11, further comprising a plate substantially covering one side of the first and second openings and having two contoured portions that each are substantially complementary to the contour of at least a portion of at least one magazine.

13. The end stock of claim 11, the body further comprising a top portion and a lower portion extending from the top portion, wherein the first opening and the second opening are formed into the lower portion.

14. The end stock of claim 11, further wherein at least one magazine is flush with the end stock when secured within the first opening.

15. A firearm comprising:

a firearm stock;
a receiver connected to the firearm stock and having a magazine port;
at least one magazine that is adapted to be inserted into the magazine port;
an end stock having a first side and a second side and being connected to the firearm stock, the end stock comprising at least a first recess, the first recess extending from the first side toward the second side and being configured to secure at least one magazine to the end stock.

16. The firearm of claim 15, wherein the recess is configured to frictionally secure the at least one magazine.

17. The firearm of claim 15, further comprising a plate connected to the end stock, wherein the first recess extends through the second side and the plate is configured to connect to the first side to substantially cover the recess.

19. The firearm of claim 15, further comprising at least a second recess configured to secure at least one magazine.

20. The firearm of claim 15, wherein the firearm is a.22 caliber long gun.

21. The magazine storage device of claim 1, wherein the first opening has a shape and contours that substantially mirror the shape and contours of a portion of the at least one magazine.

22. The end stock of claim 5, wherein the first opening extends from one side of the end stock through to another side of the end stock.
