Abstract

A rotatable curtain rod assembly having an arcuate elongated rod that is attached to a pair of rotatable connecting members.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

This invention is directed toward a shower curtain rod and more particularly a curved or arcuate shower curtain rod that rotates.

Curved or arcuate shower curtain rods are well known in the art. By curving outwardly, away from a bathtub, the rod, which holds a shower curtain, creates a larger space in which to shower, while this is beneficial for showering, when the shower is not in use, the rod remains in an outward position which encroaches on the space available in the bathroom outside of the bathtub. Therefore, a need exists for a device that addresses this deficiency.

An objective of the present invention is to provide an arcuate shower curtain that is rotatable.

Another objective of the present invention is to provide a shower curtain rod that creates space in a bathtub when in use and reduces space when not in use.

These and other objectives will be apparent to one skilled in the art based on the following disclosure.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

A rotatable curtain rod assembly having an elongated rod attached to a pair of connecting members. The connecting member has a first member attached to a wall and a second member that rotatably fits over the first member. The first and second members have stops that are positioned to engage one another. A bracket is attached to the second member and is received within the elongated rod.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

The curtain rod assembly 10 includes an arcuate elongated rod 12 attached to a pair of rotatable connecting members 14. The connecting member 14 is of any shape, size and structure that permits the rod 12 to rotate from a first position to a second position. In an exemplar embodiment the connecting member 14 has a first member 16 that is attached to a wall 18 or support structure. The first member 16 has a first end 20, a sidewall 22, and an open second end 24. On the inner surface of the sidewall 22 are a pair of inner stops 26. The first member 16 is connected to the wall 18 in any conventional manner such as screws.

A second member 28 has a first end 30, a sidewall 32, and an open end 34. Extending inwardly from the first end 30 is an outer stop 36. The second member 28 rotatably fits over the first member 16 such that the outer stop 36 extends into the first member and lies in the same rotational plane as the inner stops 26.

Attached to the outer surface of the first end 30 of the second member 28 is a bracket 38. The bracket 38 has a base 40 and a stem 42 that extends outwardly, preferably at an angle in relation to the central axis of the base 40. The rod 12 fits over the stem 42 such that the rod 12 is attached to the connecting members 14. A piece of trim 44 fits over the bracket 38 for aesthetic purposes.

In operation, once assembled, the rod is placed in a first position where greater space is provided in the bathtub. In the first position the second member 28 is rotated about the first member 16 such that the outer stop 36 engages the inner stop 26 furthest away from the bathtub. To move the rod 12 to the second position where greater space is provided in the bathroom the rod is manually raised such that the second member 28 rotates about the first member 16 until the outer stop 36 engages the inner stop 26 that is closer to the bathtub.

Therefore, a rotatable shower curtain rod assembly has been disclosed that at the very least meets all the stated objectives.

Claims

1. A curtain rod assembly, comprising:

a pair of connecting members having brackets that are rotatably attached to the connecting members; and

an elongated rod attached to the bracket.

2. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the connecting members have a first member and a second member that is rotatably attached to the first member.

3. The assembly of claim 2 wherein the bracket is attached to the second member.

4. The assembly of claim 2 wherein the first member and the second member have stops positioned to engage one another.

5. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the bracket has a base and a stem that extends outwardly and angularly from the base.
