BED STORAGE SYSTEM

Abstract

A bed storage system includes at least one storage area in easily reachable proximity to a user of a bed. The bed bag apparel can include a fabric strip with two side-by-side pouches sewn directly on each side of the fabric strip. The pouches can be sewn into the fabric strip on three sides leaving the top side open to form a bag. A pocket can be located at a backside of each of the two side-by-side pouches. Additionally, anchoring sections including anchoring mass can maintain the fabric strip against a mattress. The pouches hang off on the left and right side of the bed when the fabric strip is laid across the bed. Such bed bag apparel can provide convenient access to double-pouch storage areas on both sides of the bed.

Description

TECHNICAL FIELD

Embodiments are generally related to beds and bedding such as sheets, comforters, blankets, duvet, quilts, coverlets, etc. Embodiments are also related to storage compartments configured for use with bedding. More particularly, the present invention relates to bed bags as a means to provide additional storage compartments along the side of a bed beneath the beds surface near the head of a bed.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

Convenience has become ever more important in modern day society, such that most people like to have a number of items within arms reach of their bed. For example, tissues, eye glasses, medication, flashlight, and television remote control may be required in middle of the night wherein a bed occupant does not desire to get up out of the bed and turn on a bedroom light to find a required object. Such objects can be placed on a night stand to provide a convenient access to items. However, due to the size and configuration of the room, it may not be always possible to have the nightstand immediately beside both sides of the bed. Thus, it has become desirable to have a place to keep often used items in an easily accessible location as close to the bed as possible. In the art, there presently exist a variety of known bed sheets for mattresses, with the bed sheets having pouches and the like for placement of such objects. There are also bedding accessories that can be placed on top of sheets near the pillow area on a bed mattress for storing items. FIG. 1, labeled as “prior art” illustrates a bed including the use of such a bed storage accessory 120 place on top of a bed mattress 105 and associated bedding 107 near the headboard 112 of the bed 100 where pillows 109 are generally located. The typical bed 100 includes a frame 110, bed mattress 105, and box spring 115.

Over the past several years, developments in areas such as electronics, healthcare, home and personal security, household conveniences, and food and beverage preparation have resulted in an onslaught of small, portable items that are frequently utilized by individuals while lounging in, sleeping in or otherwise occupying a bed. Such items are generally placed either on the bed surface, on a bedside table, balancing on the top of headboards, and/or on the floor, all leading to increased clutter on and around the bed and/or resulting in the inability to quickly and conveniently access such items while in bed. Also new to the bed market are split, adjustable beds that are located side by side as a king-sized bed, but allowing two occupants to select various upright positions for the head and foot of their respective beds. These adjustable beds normally have wireless remote controls that require storage in association with the side of a king-sized bed it is associated with.

What is needed is a convenient system or product that can enable the storage of portable items, such as remote controls, medicines and other personal items, in convenient, hidden locations with relation to a user's location in a bed and that can remain in place when located on a mattress. What is also needed is a system or product that will enable storage when used with modern, split-king (side-by-side twin) bed configurations. These needs are addressed by the present invention.

BRIEF SUMMARY

The following summary is provided to facilitate an understanding of some of the innovative features unique to the present invention and is not intended to be a full description. A full appreciation of the various aspects of the embodiments disclosed herein can be gained by taking the entire specification, claims, drawings, and abstract as a whole.

It is, therefore, one aspect of the present invention to provide for an improved bedding storage apparatus.

It is another aspect of the present invention to provide an improved bed storage system with storage areas in easily reachable proximity to bed users.

It is yet another feature of the present invention that the bed storage system be anchorable underneath a bed mattress such that the bed storage system is retained against the surface of the bed mattress, and does not easily wrinkle.

It is another feature of the present invention that the bed storage system can be used with split-king bed configurations, which are now becoming widely available.

The aforementioned aspects and other objectives and advantages can now be achieved as described herein. A bed bag apparel for storing objects in an easily reachable proximity to a person in a prone position on a bed is disclosed. The bed bag forms a strip (e.g. fabric) that can be laid across a head rest zone of the bed. The strip includes two side-by-side pouches and a hidden pouch on each end of the strip. The two side-by-side pouches can be sewn in three sides with a top side left open to gain access to the pouches. The strip thus comprises a total of four side-by-side pouches and the two hidden pouches that hang off on the left side and the right side of the bed. The strip further includes a number of snap buttons for providing a simple and fast way to adjust the length depending on an application, on which the bed bag is utilized.

The strip comprises various sizes to fit variety of bed sizes such as for example, full, twin, queen and king size. The pattern of the strip and the pouches can be altered to create figures such as for example, heart, apple, and the like to add to bed room decor. The strip can be left permanently on a mattress or easily folded up when traveling to use on other applications. The bed bag can be utilized in various applications such as, for example, picnics tables, banquet tables and the like. In such applications the bed bag can be utilized as a table bag where surface space can be gained by storing eating utensils, paper plates, napkins and the like in the hanging pouches of the strip. Such bed bags can be quickly laid over any application.

A bed storage system having a number of storage areas in easily reachable proximity is disclosed. The bed bag apparel includes a fabric strip with two side-by-side pouches sewn directly on each side of the fabric strip. The pouches can be sewn into the fabric strip on three sides leaving the top side open to form a bag. A pocket can be located at a backside of each of the two side-by-side pouches. Additionally, a number of snap buttons can be attached at various intervals of the fabric strip for adjusting the length of the bed bag apparel. The pouches hang off on the left and right side of the bed when the fabric strip is laid across the bed. Such bed bag apparel can provide convenient access to double-pouch storage areas on both sides of the bed.

The fabric strip can be cut lengthwise in different sizes to fit variety of beds. The bed bag apparel can be left permanently on a mattress of the bed and can be easily folded up when travelling to use on other beds. The colors and patterns of the pouches can be altered to create figures, such as, for example, a heart or an apple, to add to bedroom decor. The bed bag apparel can also be utilized as a table bag for use with a picnic or banquet table. The bed bag apparel can also be utilized by vendors to display products and store tools and/or other marketing items. Such bed bags can be ideal for almost any indoor and outdoor surface to gain space and convenient storage area.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The particular values and configurations discussed in these non-limiting examples can be varied and are cited merely to illustrate at least one embodiment and are not intended to limit the scope thereof.

FIGS. 2-3 illustrate a bed storage system 220 made of fabric base material 222 that can be provided for use over the mattress 105 and includes at least one pouch 225 sewn into the base material 222 as it lies along at least one side of the mattress 105, and two anchoring ends 230 each including anchoring mass 235 located at the edge of each anchoring ends 230. The anchoring masses 235 can be placed in-between the mattress 105 and box spring 115 in a manner that stretches the base material 222 over the top surface of the mattress 105 while the at least one pouch 225 is located on the at least one side of the mattress 105. The anchoring mass 235 can be provided in the form of a sphere, rod, and other shaped material that can be connected to (e.g., sewn onto or into) the edges of the anchoring ends 230. The anchoring mass 235 should only be large enough to hold the anchoring ends 230 when placed in-between the mattress 105 and box spring 115. The anchoring mass 235 should not be too large that they interfere with the comfort of a user (not shown) supported on the top surface of the mattress 105.

The storage system 220 can be made of material similar as bed sheets to ensure comfort of the user and frequent laundering. The fabric base material 222 is ideally located just beneath pillows 109 that are generally located on the top surface of a bed mattress 105 near what is referred to as the “head” of the bed.” The anchoring ends 230 can also be made as sheet-like material and include anchoring mass 235 as end-pieces integrated on the ends of the anchoring ends 230. Anchoring masses 235 can be made of rubber, wood, metal, but ideally will possess enough friction to be held between the mattress 105 and supporting box spring 115. When placed beneath the bed mattress 105 and between the bed mattress 105 and supporting box spring 115, the anchoring sheet 230 and anchoring mass 235 keeps the storage system tightly-fitted to the surface of the bed mattress 105, which is an important features of the storage system 110 because users can wrinkle or displace the storage system when moving during sleep.

Pouches 225 will ideally extend along the sides of the bed 105 just below the surface of mattress 105 above the box spring 115. Although items can be stored in a lower location, e.g., below the mattress 105 (below its bottom edge), lower pouch locations would be inconvenient for users of limited mobility (e.g., medical patients and elderly). Furthermore, such a location is typically reserved for a bed skirt (not shown) when used and it will likely interfere with the appearance of the bed skirt or reveal a unsightly bulge from the storage system stored contents because of its location beneath most comforters.

FIGS. 4-6 illustrate a perspective view of a bed storage system used on a split-king adjustable bed. As shown in FIGS. 4-6, a bed storage system 320 used with a split-king bed will only have a pocket or pouch 325 located on the outer side of the bed mattress 105. The inner side of the bed mattress 105, however, would not likely benefit from a pocket or pouch because the pouch 325 would interfere with the neighboring mattress 205 when either is mechanically moved from incline to decline positions. What can be included on the inner side, however, is an anchoring edge 330 with an anchoring mass 335, so that the bed storage system 320 will remain tightly placed against the top surface of the bed mattress 105.

FIG. 7 illustrates a plan view of a bed storage system 400, similar to that of FIGS. 2-3, laying flat on a surface revealing all aspects of the bed storage system for use with a typical bed having access to both left and right sides.

FIG. 8 illustrates a plan view of a bed storage system 500, similar to that of FIGS. 4-6, laying flat on a surface revealing all aspects of the bed storage system for use with a split-king bed having access to both left and right sides.

FIG. 9 illustrates a plan view of a bed storage system 600 laying flat on a surface revealing all aspects of a bed storage system for use with a bed. The bed storage system of FIG. 9 includes a third storage area accessible at the top, “head” area of a bed, which is an alternate embodiment.

As described previously, the bed storage system can have pouches or pockets. Multiple pouches can be located on one side of the bed storage system and the pouches can be sewn directly onto each end of a base material that can be provided as a long fabric strip that can reach around the top surface, sides and also underneath a substantial part of a mattress. The fabric strip is ideally flexible material which can comprises a network of natural or artificial fibers. The pouches 320 on each end of the bed bag apparel 300 can provide larger storage space. The fabric strip 310 is laid across the bed 350 at a head-rest zone of the bed 350 so that the pouches 320 can hang off at both sides, and possibly to top of, the top mattress of the bed.

The width of the fabric strip can be cut to 22 inches so that it fits conveniently underneath the pillow area of the bed. The width and height of the pouches can be measured 18 inches and 13 inches respectively. These dimensions are described for purposes of clarity and specificity; however, they should not be interpreted in any limiting way. However, it will be apparent to those of skill in the art that other dimensions can be utilized as desired without departing from the scope of the invention. The pouches of the bed storage system can be sewn directly into the fabric strip on three sides leaving the top side open to form a bag for depositing objects, such as, television remote-controls, keys, etc. The fabric strip can be cut into different lengths to fit into a wide variety of beds. The bed bag apparel can be fit into variety of mattresses, such as, full, twin, king, queen, split-king, and the like.

It will be appreciated that variations of the above-disclosed and other features and functions, or alternatives thereof, may be desirably combined into many other different systems or applications. Also that various presently unforeseen or unanticipated alternatives, modifications, variations or improvements therein may be subsequently made by those skilled in the art which are also intended to be encompassed by the following claims.

Claims

1. A bed storage system, comprising:

a fabric strip having at least one pouches sewn directly on at least one of a left side and a right side of said fabric strip; and

an anchoring section having an end and including an anchoring mass connected to the end of the anchoring mass, said anchoring section for tightly retaining the fabric strip on the surface of a bed mattress.

2. The bed storage system of claim 1 further comprising said fabric strip extending over the top, head section of said mattress and including a pouch located at the top of said mattress.

3. The bed storage system of claim 1, wherein said fabric comprises a plurality of colors and a plurality of patterns.

4. The bed bag apparel of claim 1 wherein said fabric strip comprises a cloth material including at least one of silk, cotton and polyester.

5. The bed bag apparel of claim 1 wherein said fabric strip is cut to a width that fits at least one of the following sizes of said mattress:

full size;

twin size;

king size; or

queen size.
