Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates to the field of gift wrap. More specifically, the present invention relates to adjustable, reusable gift wrap and accessories.

Typically once a gift is received its decorative wrap is thrown away, resulting in increased landfill and the need to purchase new decorative wrap with each subsequent gift. This has a substantial cost to our environment, not only in terms of increased waste but also the increased energy consumption required to produce and transport replacement disposable gift wrap.

BACKGROUND-PRIOR ART

Despite the fact that prior fabric gift wrap inventions exist, their lack of success in the marketplace could be attributed to the following considerations: they are too complicated to use, they do not resemble traditional gift wrapping, they do not offer variety and novelty in their design, they require additional supplies, they are not adaptable to many shapes and sizes, nor are they form fitting

Some have developed sacs or sleeve components that do not conform to the shape or size of the gift item. For example Myers U.S. Pat. No. 5,161,895; Eaddy U.S. Pat. No. 4,726,509; U.S. Pat. No. 4,712,726 and U.S. Pat. No. D306,697; have developed gift boxes or containers with integrated decorative elements which simplify wrapping however they limit the size and shape of the gift item and take away from the pleasure of trying to guess the item according to its shape and size.

Moor have developed reusable wrapping to be used in conjunction with a gift box. Savage, Tommy U.S. Pat. Nos. 5,836,508; 5,826,402; 5,769,770; 5,740,959; 5,584,429; 5,245,815; Gloutnez, Janet CA 2,105,715; Dahan David U.S. Pat. No. 5,518,313; which again limits the size and shape of the gift item as well as adding the extra effort of acquiring a perfectly sized gift box.

To fasten the gift wrapping, some have postulated the use of glue or other adhesives; Weder U.S. Pat. No. 5,111,638; Kitchin Jonathan P; Sarkar Manisha US 20050276953; Clarke-Bolling, et al: U.S. Pat. No. 5,392,983; This limits the reusability of every part of the gift wrapping system which will eventually require that one will need to acquire additional glue or adhesive in order to reuse this wrapping.

Additional wraps with limited sizing options are Uyehara; Stacy US 20100127052 limited by its four flaps design as well as Yates, et al. U.S. Pat. No. 5,407,125; Selga U.S. Pat. No. 5,004,144; and Lester Matthew WO 0064762 who have permanently attached the fastening element to specific locations on the wrapping without many options for size adjustments.

Other gift wrapping systems are not designed to enclose the gift item completely. Vincenzo, Chiavacci FR 2665114; Hughes; Tanya Diana; et al. US 20100064634 which is not esthetically ideal.

Other designs rely on their stretch properties to tightly surround the gift item. French, Judith U.S. Pat. No. 5,743,458 and U.S. Pat. No. 5,529,395; Spizman, Robyn F; Rivman, Hillary J US 20070041670. Use of stretch material distorts any image printed on the wrapping and is limited by its stretch capabilities to accommodate different sizes.

Wilson Suzanne Louise; Merrick Deborah Joan; Brito Larry John WO 0168474 have added a record keeping element to their wrapping, however their record keeping element is not designed to keep a historic record of possession and further does not indicate reusability of either the tag component or the wrap component.

None of these references discloses all the features of my own U.S. Pat. No. 2,659,850 (2009). My own patent allowing almost unlimited options of closely fitting to different sizes and shapes of items while maintaining a snug fit enveloping the gift as well as being simple to use esthetically pleasing while allowing creativity by the user and being all inclusive with all components being reusable.

Furthermore, the additional record keeping element to the present invention encourages reuse of the gift wrap by providing a chain of possession of the gift wrap which adds history and consequently, interest and participation.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

Considered broadly, gift wrapping according to the invention are of the reusable type comprising a covering element of a supple material, a fastening element with adjustable properties and an optional record keeping accessory. When used in conjunction said elements result in an esthetically pleasing, easy to use, reusable snug fitting gift wrap which can be adjusted to fit gifts of many varying sizes and shape with no additional elements needed and with the added motivational factor resulting from the record keeping accessory.
