Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The Christian cross, generally seen as a representation of the instrument of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, is the best-known religious symbol of Christianity. It is related to the crucifix (a cross that includes a representation of Jesus' body) and to the more general family of cross symbols. The cross-shaped sign is represented in its simplest form by a crossing of two lines at right angles.

The cross is often shown in different shapes, sizes, and styles and is used not just for its ornamental value, but also for its religious significance. Specifically, it is generally shown as both empty and in crucifix form, that is, with a figure of Christ affixed to it. Roman Catholic, Anglican and Lutheran depictions of the cross are often crucifixes, in order to emphasize that it is Jesus that is important, rather than the cross in isolation. However, some other Protestant traditions depict the cross without the corpus, interpreting this form as an indication of belief in the resurrection rather than as representing the interval between the death and the resurrection of Jesus. Regardless of the interpretation, none of the existing crosses or crucifixes truly embodies and symbolizes the resurrection of the spirit of Jesus Christ after his body died on the cross.

Thus, what is needed is a symbol of eternal salvation that will serve as a reminder of Jesus' last miracle on the cross, when he looked up to heaven and said: “Father, to you, I command my spirit” and his spirit went up from the cross.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The cross pendant of the present invention is a unique cross design never before seen on any cross.

According to an aspect of the invention, the top part of the cross is completely open, symbolizing the resurrection of the spirit of Jesus Christ after his body died on the cross.

According to another aspect of the invention, the cross hangs from a chain that forms a triangular shape.

According to still another aspect of the invention, the triangular shape chain is attached to separate parts of the top of said cross. An opening separates the parts.

According to a further aspect of the invention, the cross has a first end portion, a second end portion and a middle portion longitudinally extending between said first end portion and said second end portion.

According to another aspect of the invention, the length of the middle portion forms a cross, wherein the first end portion and the second end portion are located at an uppermost position of said cross, unconnected and separated by an opening.

According to one aspect of the invention, a cross has a pass-through opening extending across said cross, said pass-through opening also defined by interior surfaces of said cross and an opening located at an uppermost position of said cross.

According to another aspect of the invention, the opening is structurally connected to the interior surfaces and not enclosing the pass-through opening.

According to still another aspect of the invention, a cross is made by a shaping element that forms the shape of said cross.

According to a further aspect of the invention, a pass-through opening extending across the cross is defined by the shaping element and an upper opening that prevents enclosing said pass-through opening.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

These and other aspects and advantages of the present invention are more apparent from the following detailed description and claims, particularly when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. In the drawings:

FIG. 1 shows a front view of the cross pendant according to the present invention.

Throughout the figures, the same reference numbers and characters, unless otherwise stated, are used to denote like elements, components, portions or features of the illustrated embodiments.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The cross pendant of the present invention will be explained in conjunction with FIGS. 1-5.

The cross pendant 1 as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 comprises a cross shaping element having a right side 1a, a left side 1b, a lower part 1c and an upper part 1d. In a preferred embodiment, a portion of the right side 1a and the left side 1b are formed in a pyramid shape at right angles. As can be seen, upper part 1d comprises an opening located between upper part portions 1d1 and 1d2. In a preferred embodiment, upper part portions 1d1 and 1d2 are formed in a semi heart shape. The opening extends into an internal open space 1e of the cross 1. The boundary or perimeter of the internal open space 1e is at least partially defined by the internal surfaces 1f of the cross shaping element and the opening located between upper part portions 1d1 and 1d2 as shown in FIG. 2. Thus, forming a cross having a middle pass-through opening extending across a rear surface (not shown) and a front surface of said cross and having an upper part opening as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. The cross 1 of the present invention, can also be provided with any symbol. In a preferred embodiment, a symbol 4 such as a figure of Jesus Christ can be positioned within the middle pass-through opening to symbolize that his spirit went up from the cross as illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2. A chain element 3 is provided to hang the cross of the present invention to a necklace as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5. Chain element 3 comprises a first chain section 3a coupled to the upper part portion 1d1 of the cross 1 by means of a joining ring 2a, a second chain section 3b coupled to the upper part portion 1d2 of the cross 1 by means of a joining ring 2b. Both chain sections 3a and 3b are joined together at one end by means of a necklace passing element 3c forming a triangular shape arrangement as shown in FIG. 1.

FIG. 3 shows another embodiment of cross pendant according to the present invention. It should be clear from the Figures that regardless of the specific form and shape of the cross, it is critical for the upper part to be open, wherein the uppermost portion of the cross is not continuous as the left, right and lower portions of the cross made of a single shaping element. As can be seen, the shaping element comprises a first end portion 1d1, a second end portion 1d2 and a middle portion (1a, 1b, 1c) shaped in the form of a cross. Both end portions 1d1 and 1d2 are located at an uppermost part of the cross 1 and are separated by the opening 1d.

FIGS. 4 and 5, illustrate the cross pendant of the present invention embodied in a necklace used by a person. As can be seen, the important feature is that an upper part is open providing a pass-through opening non-completely enclosed regardless if the pendant is a cross or a crucifix.

The cross or crucifix of the present invention can be made of any suitable material that is generally used to make jewelry accessories such as but not limited to: gold, silver, wood, plastic, and stainless steel.

Because many varying and differing embodiments maybe made within the scope of the inventive concept herein taught and because many modifications may be made in the embodiment herein detailed in accordance with the descriptive requirement of the law, it is to be understood that the details herein are to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
