Core XT trainer bag

The design of a center weight lift bar, internal weights and strategically placed hand grips satisfies the different requirements for health and martial arts training that are presently not met by existing conventional training bags. The redesigned Core XT Trainer Bag is not only designed for a variety of exercises, the bag also employs the maximum in safety technology to avoid contact injury to the users. The extensive versatility of this trainer bag makes it a highly usable training tool due to it's replacement of multiple single function bags.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field

The invention pertains to the field of “heavy exercise bags” used in the conditioning phase of martial arts, sports and physical fitness. Existing heavy bags are limited to single functions such as striking or grappling. Hanging bags are restricted to striking and in general cannot be utilized for grappling. Basically, the sole function of a hanging bag is strictly for striking to develop boxing and kickboxing skills only.

2. Prior Art

Freestanding bags that are used for clinching are limited for striking functions due to the weighted down nature of the upright stands. The bags with light stands that can be used for grappling are not suitable for power strikes due to the lighten nature of the stands. Bags with extra heavy stands for maintaining upright positions are not conducive for grappling.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The Core XT Trainer Bag referred to as the Invention is a newly redesigned multi-function boxing, martial arts, sports fighting, physical fitness and conditioning bag. Designed with multiple handgrips and a centered iron weight lift bar, this all-in-one bag can be used for the numerous styles of martial arts training and strength conditioning. The Core XT Trainer Bag is designed so that it can be used to develop athleticism, strength training and to increase cardiovascular capacity.

The manner of greatest use of the Invention is the versatility for striking, ground and pound, grappling, take-down and throws that require a variety of techniques in the different styles of martial arts. Additionally the Invention can be used in complex multi-joint training, weight lifting and short duration high intensity strength training. While each technique and exercise requires a particular function, this invention meets all the demands of the various physical drills.

Striking is the act of throwing punches or kicks with knees, elbows or forearms on a bag held in a standing position secured by a partner. In this position, the added grips allow the partner to move the bag so that the practitioner can refine the accuracy and direction of his strikes. Utilizing the different parts of the body as weapons, these assorted types of striking are now possible in this scenario.

Striking from the clinch is a solo specific training exercise where the practitioner holds the bag in a clinch type position by the various grips. Clinching is defined as having some sort of grip and control on an opponent (bag) while in a standing position. In this scenario of “clinching”, the striker will use close-in weapons such as knees, elbows or short hand punches to strike the opponent while maintaining strict control over said opponent (bag).

Ground and Pound is the action of having your opponent (bag) down on the ground while inflicting a barrage of strikes on the opponent thus maintaining a dominant position to strike and control. To maintain this level of control, the body weight is used on the downed opponent (bag) with grappling techniques to maintain a clear advantage. The bag is mobile enough to be used as an opponent that when down is venerable to be slammed and struck in the downed position. Lacking a heavy stand the bag is suitable for any number of grappling positions and wrestling holds.

Striking a downed opponent is an exercise in which an opponent (bag) is knocked down while the opposing fighter is still standing. In this scenario, the standing opponent can deliver methodical strikes such as kicks and long punches to the downed opponent (bag). The mobility of the bag allows for the reverse of this scenario where a grounded opponent can counter strike at the standing opponent(bag). This partner scenario is only possible when the standing opponent is holding the bag upright so that the grounded fighter can deliver defensive strikes to the standing opponent.

Striking from the guard is a technique where the striker is on the bottom and has the opponent (bag) clutched between his legs so that he can deliver knee or elbow strikes to the opponent (bag). The portable design of the bag allows for these various holds and strikes to be readily executed. There is no hindrance limit to any training steps due to the extensive versatility of the bag to be easily hung, held in any position or clinched or thrown by it's multiple grips.

As designed the bag can be readily used in lifting, which is the function of moving and accelerating a load (bag) in a series of various ranges of motion. In this technique, the bag is lifted using multi-joint complex movements as opposed to stationary standardized exercise such as a bench press. On a bench press, the person is moving a load, but is restricted to the stationary bench. This device also allows the practitioner to throw, heave and slam the bag using explosive power moves that cannot be executed with a metal barbell.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING

FIG. 1 is an isometric view of the Core XT Trainer Bag showing the location of the two hand openings to allow for gripping the bar for weight lifting.

Item 1 is the completely assembled vinyl covered canvass trainer bag.

Item 2 shows the weight lifting bar in its center location in the trainer bag.

Item 7 locates the openings for hand access to the weight lifting bar, item 2.

Item 8 shows the vertical belt strap handles running vertically on opposite sides of the trainer bag.

Item 9 shows the four circumference belt strap handles in each position on the trainer bag.

Item 10 locates the Velcro lock seal system on the inner edge of the end seal cap, item 11.

Item 11 is the end seal cap that locks in the weights item 4, the lift bar item 2, and the high-density protective foam item 6.

FIG. 2 is a cross-section showing the placement of the weights, lift bar and high-density foam in the trainer bag.

Item 3 locates the 3-inch diameter washers spot-welded to each end of the weight bar item 2, to lock in the weights and prevent them from slipping of the bar.

Item 4 are the PVC sand filled sealed pipes that serve as the balanced weights in the trainer bag.

Item 5 are the four locking rings with three centered hex screws that keep the weights item 4 locked in place.

Item 6 is the tightly packed high-density protective foam filling the entire interior of the bag. This foam surrounds the weights and lift bar to protect the user from direct contact with the weights thus avoiding injury

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The Invention is a redesigned heavy striking bag that has a series of grips (straps) on the outer plane so that the bag can be grappled, thrown, hung, lifted, carried, maneuvered or held upright in place. These various actions are normally executed with several different bags; however, this redesigned bag replaces the existing bags by functioning as a single do-all bag.

As part of the series of improvements the Invention is fortified with an iron-lifting bar located in the center of the bag. The sand-filled PVC sealed pipes serve as weights and as a stiffener to keep the bag from sagging or collapsing after a series of strikes. Conventional bags have a tendency to sag and thus lose their form after some rough usage.

To protect the striker from injury due to the centered weight lifting bar and weights, a thick layer of high-density foam encloses the bar and weights. This preliminary assembly is then inserted in an exterior vinyl covered canvass bag that is sealed with a Velcro lined locking cap. The outer bag, with grip assemblies in place, is covered with a smooth vinyl coating that will protect the user against skin abrasions, cuts or chafing from rough contact with the bag.

Claims

1. The Invention is comprised of a unique highly versatile trainer bag, unlike any presently available, in that it meets all the various requirements of strength, cardiovascular and martial arts training and conditioning.
