Description
BACKGROUND

1. Technical Field

The present disclosure relates to a device for mounting a fan.

2. Description of Related Art

Many electronic devices use fans to cool electronic components. However, shock generated by fans is often transmitted to other components mounted in the electronic device. If the shock is too strong, it will affect the components that rely on mechanical heads to read and write date, such as hard drives and tape drives to work properly, and can even cause errors. Therefore there is room for improvement in the art.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

Many aspects of the present embodiments can be better understood with reference to the following drawings. The components in the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis instead being placed upon clearly illustrating the principles of the present embodiments. Moreover, in the drawings, all the views are schematic, and like reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

FIG. 1 is an exploded, isometric view of an exemplary embodiment of a mounting device, together with two fans.

FIG. 2 is a partially assembled, isometric view of the mounting device of FIG. 1.

FIG. 3 is an assembled, isometric view of the mounting device of FIG. 1

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The disclosure, including the accompanying drawings, is illustrated by way of example and not by way of limitation. It should be noted that references to “an” or “one” embodiment in this disclosure are not necessarily to the same embodiment, and such references mean at least one.

Referring to FIG. 1, an exemplary embodiment of a mounting device for mounting a fan 10 includes a board 20, a frame 30 (labeled in FIG. 2), four fasteners 60, and four shockproof members 40.

The fan 10 includes two spaced plates 12 at opposite ends, each plate 12 defines four corner holes 120.

The board 20 can be installed in an electronic device so that airflow from the fan 10 can be directed as desired. In this embodiment, the board 20 is installed to a bottom wall 70 of a chassis of an electronic device. The board 20 defines a vent 24. A substantially wedge-shaped projection 26 protrudes from the board 20 above the vent 24. Two substantially L-shaped blocking pieces 28 extend from the board 20 at opposite sides of the vent 24. Each blocking piece 28 includes a first piece 280 perpendicular to the bottom wall 70, and a second piece 282 perpendicularly extending from a side of the first piece 280 toward the other blocking piece 28. Each second piece 282 defines two through holes 284.

The frame 30 includes a first cover 32 and a second cover 34. The first cover 32 includes a blocking plate 320 and two side plates 322 perpendicularly extending back from opposite sides of the blocking plate 320. A tab 324 substantially perpendicularly extends out from a bottom side of each blocking plate 320 and defines two fixing holes 326. The second cover 34 includes a blocking plate 341 and an L-shaped blocking portion 340 extending from a top of the blocking plate 341. The blocking portion 340 includes a first portion 344 perpendicularly extending outward from the top of the blocking portion 340 and a second portion 346 perpendicularly extending up from a side of the first portion 344 opposite to the blocking plate 341. A substantially wedge-shaped protrusion 342 protrudes from a side of the second portion 346, facing the first portion 344. The blocking plates 320 and 341 each defines a vent 302 in a center and four corner holes 300 corresponding to the corner holes 120.

Each shockproof member 40 is substantially round, and defines a through hole 42 in a center. The shockproof member 40 is made of elastic material, such as rubber.

Each fastener 60 includes a head 62 and an extension portion 64 extending from the head 62.

Referring to FIG. 2, in assembly, the first and second covers 32 and 34 are attached to opposite ends of the fan 10. The blocking plates 320 and 341 abut against the corresponding plates 12. The side plates 322 abut against opposite sides of the fan 10. The first portion 344 abuts against a top of the fan 10. Eight screws 50 extend through the corresponding corner holes 300 and the corresponding corner holes 120, to fix the fan 10 in the frame 30.

Referring to FIG. 3, the extension portions 64 extend through the corresponding fixing holes 326 and the through holes 42 of the corresponding shockproof members 40, to fix the shockproof members 40 to the bottom surface of the corresponding tabs 324. The heads 62 abut against tops of the tabs 324. The frame 30 together with the fan 10 is then inserted between the blocking pieces 28. The extension portions 64 are then extended through the corresponding through holes 284, until the shockproof members 40 abut against the corresponding second pieces 282. The protrusion 342 is blocked under the projection 26. The vents 302 and the fan 10 align with the vent 24

In uninstalling the fan 10, the second portion 346 is deformed away from the board 20 to disengaging the protrusion 342 from the projection 26. The frame 30 is then moved up to disengage the fasteners 60 from the blocking pieces 28. Therefore, the fan 10 together with the frame 30 can be readily removed

In other embodiment, the protrusion 342 may extend from a side of the top of the blocking plate 341 away from the blocking portion 340.

It is believed that the present embodiments and their advantages will be understood from the foregoing description, and various changes may be made thereto without departing from the spirit and scope of the description or sacrificing all of their material advantages, the examples hereinbefore described merely being exemplary embodiments.
