Alternative Handgun Accessory Mount
A method and apparatus for attaching a standard mounting rail to a handgun. Such method and apparatus providing for quicker and cheaper modification of the handgun and its accessories. This method and apparatus connects the standard mounting rail system to the handgun at two points rather than at the traditional one point, increasing reliability and stability.
1. Field of Invention
This application relates to methods and mechanisms for attaching accessory parts to firearms, toy guns, and other dischargeable devices, particularly to methods and mechanisms for attaching accessory parts to handguns.
2. Prior Art
Many shooters enjoy and appreciate the value of adding accessory parts to their weapons. On most firearms, standard rail systems are integrated in the firearm so as to allow easy customizability of the weapon through the addition and modification of accessories; however, most pistols and handguns lack such rail systems. Some other accessory attachment methods utilize clamps, welding, adhesives, male and female counterparts, or integrating screws. Presently, those who wish to add accessories to their pistols or handguns must employ a gunsmith or have considerable skill in the field of weapon modifications to integrate a mount with the weapon. This method of integrating a mounting system with the weapon is cumbersome and expensive. In addition, these rail systems generally only have one point of contact with the handgun and are therefore prone to falling off unexpectedly or shifting from their intended positions. Precision sights and other mounts become useless if they shift unexpectedly, so the stability of a mounting mechanism is very important.
There exists a need for an inexpensive and timely method or apparatus for securely integrating a detachable mounting system onto a pistol or handgun:
3. Objects and Advantages
Accordingly, several objects and advantages of this invention are:
-
- (a) to attach accessory parts to the handgun with two contact points to increase stability;
- (b) to allow for the quick attachment and detachment of accessory parts to the weapon;
- (c) to allow for attachment and removal of the mounting system without leaving significant alterations to the original weapon;
- (d) to allow for the attachment of accessory parts to the weapon without the need for a professional gunsmith or the excessive costs associated with said gunsmith.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a consideration of the drawings and ensuing description.
SUMMARYThe following summary is provided to facilitate an understanding of some of the innovative features unique to the embodiments and is not intended to be a full description. A full appreciation of the various aspects of the embodiments can be gained by taking the entire specification, claims, drawings, and abstract as a whole.
In accordance with the present invention a method and apparatus for attaching a mounting system to a handgun by way of a plurality of parts securing said rail to the handgun above the slide rail (as is conventionally done) as well as to the back of the slide rail, and integrating these two top and rear pieces for added stability and ease of manufacture.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION—FIGS. 1-5With reference now to the drawings, as can be seen in
