MAKEUP SHIELD

A makeup shield includes a mask and handle. The mask has comprises an edge with at least two concave edge portions. The mask is conformable to different areas of a human face. The handle allows the mask to be placed or pressed against the human face. A first concave edge portion may contour to the natural curvature of a human eye. A second concave edge portion and the first concave edge portion may conform to one or more sections of a human orbital bone.

Description
FIELD

The present disclosure generally relates to a makeup shield that can be used during the application of makeup. Embodiments of the disclosure generally relate to a makeup shield having a plurality of concave edge portions.

SUMMARY

The present disclosure generally relates to a makeup shield comprising a mask and a handle. In exemplary embodiments, the mask may comprise one or more edges including at least a first concave edge portion and a second concave edge portion. The mask may bend or flex so that the first concave edge portion is conformable to at least one of a natural curvature of a human eye and a natural curvature of a first portion of a human orbital bone and the second concave edge portion is conformable to a second portion of a human orbital bone.

In exemplary embodiments, the first concave edge portion may have a curvature that is different than a curvature of the second concave edge portion. In some embodiments, the first concave edge portion may be located near the second concave edge portion, for example, adjacent to the second concave edge portion.

In exemplary embodiments, one or more parts of the shield which are intended to come in contact with human skin may be made from hypoallergenic materials, such as, for example silicone.

In exemplary embodiments the shield may be used in the process of applying makeup. For example, the makeup shield may be applied against a human face so that the first concave edge portion of the mask flexes to conform to at least one of a natural curvature of a human eye and a natural curvature of a first portion of a human orbital bone and the second concave edge portion of the mask flexes to conform to a second portion of a human orbital bone. Cosmetic products including makeup may then applied to portions of the human face left exposed by the makeup shield.

In some embodiments, the shield may be located so the mask is placed above an eye so that the first concave edge portion is located between the eye lid of the eye and the upper eyelashes of the eye. In some embodiments the shield may be placed below an eye so that the first concave edge portion is located between the eye lid of the eye and the lower eyelashes of the eye.

In exemplary embodiments, the shield may be located with the mask is placed below an eye so that the first concave edge portion conforms to the natural curvature of the first portion of the orbital bone of the eye and the second concave edge portion conforms to the second portion of the orbital bone of the eye.

In exemplary embodiments, the shield may be used to apply cosmetic products, including at least two or more of eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow, and the any other type of makeup to exposed areas of the human face, such as, for example, eyelashes, eyelids, skin, etc.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Various exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure generally relate to a makeup shield used for preventing cosmetic products from coming into contact with a user's face.

FIGS. 1-14 show a makeup shield, generally designated by reference numeral 10, according to exemplary embodiments, that may be used during the application of makeup, such as, for example, eye shadow, mascara, eyeliner, and the like. In exemplary embodiments, the same shield may be used to apply different kinds of make depending upon the placement of the shield in the proximity of the eye. Further in exemplary embodiments the same shield may be used to apply makeup to the area proximate to the area of the right eye as well as to the area proximate to the left eye pending upon the side of the shield covering the face.

Referring to FIG. 1, the makeup shield 10 includes a mask, generally designated by reference numeral 20, and a handle 15. The mask 20 may include a top edge made up of a number of concave edge portions, such as a first concave edge portion 25 and a second concave edge portion 30. The mask 20 may include one or more other edges, such as edge 50 that may connect the handle 15 to the mask 20 through a stem 60.

In various exemplary embodiments, the mask 20 and stem 60 may be one piece, but need not be. In some embodiments, the stem may made of one or more materials that are different from the materials used to form the mask 20. The stem 60 may be connected to the handle 15 and/or the mask in any suitable manner, such as, for example, epoxy, glue, heat, fasteners, friction, magnets, etc.

The handle 15 may be composed of any suitable material, for example, wood, plastic, metal, polymers, and combinations thereof. The handle 15 may also have any suitable shape, such as, for example, cylindrical, flat, rectangular, square, etc. In exemplary embodiments the handle may be reversibly removable from the shield. In some embodiments, the handle 15, may adapted to can be magnetically connect to other freestanding makeup brushes and/or makeup shields, for example, as is described in U.S. Provisional Patent Application 61/492,510, the contents of which are incorporated by reference in its entirety as set forth herein.

According to exemplary embodiments, the mask 20 may be a substantially planar object with a substantially uniform width or may have a width that varies, such as, for example, a tapered width. The mask 20 may be made of any materials appropriate for contact with a human face and appropriate for shielding makeup. For example, the mask 20 may be made of one or more hypoallergenic materials, such as, for example, silicone. In exemplary embodiments, at least the portion of the mask 20 intended to be in contact with human skin may be made of one or more hypoallergenic products. Further, in exemplary embodiments, the mask 20 may be flexible and in some embodiments can conform or wrap around one or more areas of a human face, such as, for example areas in proximity to a human eye as shown in FIGS. 8-10.

Referring to FIGS. 2-3, in some exemplary embodiments, a front surface 40 and a back surface 45 of the mask 20 may be smooth and substantially flat. In various exemplary embodiments, the front surface 40 and/or the back surface 45 of the mask 20 may vary in texture. For example, the surfaces 40 and 45 need not be smooth, and in exemplary embodiments, one or more of surfaces 40 and 45 may be rough. This may, for example, help trap or hold any makeup that comes into contact with the surface 40, or may help prevent the mask 20 from slipping after being placed on a human face. In some embodiments, one or more of the surfaces 40 and 45 may also be bumpy or hilly. It should also be appreciated that even though in FIGS. 2-3 the front surface and back surface are designated by numerals 40 and 45 respectively, that in exemplary embodiments, the front surface and back surface may be considered interchangeable with respect to each other, e.g., the front surface may be considered the back surface and the back surface may be considered the front surface.

In exemplary embodiments, shield 10 may include or act as an adhesive. For example, in some embodiments, the shield may be made so that one or more of the front surface and back surface may contain an adhesive thereon, such as glue, epoxy, tape, etc. In exemplary embodiments, the front and back surface may include a removable layer covering a sticky surface underneath. For example, in use, a removable layer may be fastened to the mask 20 and removed by any suitable methods. In some embodiments, the removable layer may be attached like a sticker and removed by peeling off. The removable layer may be disposable or may be reattached or affixed repeatedly to the mask 20 after removal.

After exposing a sticky layer, the shield 10 may be placed so that the sticky layer surface is applied against a human face. After use, the peelable layer may be placed back on the sticky surface. In other embodiments, the material comprising the surface of the front and back surface may also be one that is naturally sticky without requiring any additional adhesive materials. In some exemplary embodiments, tape, single, double-sided, etc. may be used to temporarily affix a makeup shield to a human face.

The mask 20 may have a uniform width, such as, for example in the ranges of approximately 1/64 to ¼ inches, ⅛ to ¼ inches, 1/16 to ⅛ inches, 1/64 to 3/32 inches, and 1/32 to 1/16 inches. However, in other exemplary embodiments, the width of the mask 20 may be non-uniform. For example, referring to FIGS. 4-5, the width of the mask 20 may taper such that the width decreases in a vertical direction from the stem 60 to approximately the top of the mask 20. According to exemplary embodiments, the width of the mask may vary or taper along directions other than the vertical direction. For example, referring to FIGS. 6-7, the width of the mask 20 may decrease in a direction from approximately the center to the sides of the mask.

Referring back to FIG. 1, the length and the curvature of the first concave edge portion 25 may be based on the dimensions of the average human face and/or dimensions of the average human eye. For example, in exemplary embodiments, the length of the first concave edge portion 25 may approximately range from 1.25 to 1.75 inches, 1.4 to 1.6 inches, 1.25 to 1.5 inches, and/or rom 1.45 to 1.55 inches. Similarly, the length of the second concave edge portion may approximately range from 0.5 to 1 inches, 0.5 to 0.75 inches, 0.6 to 0.8 inches and/or from 0.625 to 0.875 inches. It should be appreciated that the dimensions of the make up shield 10, such as length, width and/or thickness may be increased and/or decreased without departing from the spirit and/or scope of the present disclosure.

In use, before the application of makeup, the mask 20 of the makeup shield 10 may be placed against a human face, such as, for example, in the proximity of a human eye. For example, the makeup shield 10 may be held by the handle 15 so as to allow a user to easily position the mask 20 so that portions of the face may be blocked while other portions of the face are exposed for the application of makeup. In exemplary embodiments, at least a portion of the shield may be angled relative to the stem 60 so as to allow the mask 20 to cover an area of the face.

FIG. 8 shows the mask 20 placed against a human face 810 below the eye 820. For example, the mask 20 may be positioned to cover areas of the face corresponding to the eye socket and/or orbital bones. The inside concave edge 25 may be located closer to a nasal bone or nose of the face 810 than outside concave edge 30.

In exemplary embodiments, the mask 20, after being placed against the human face, 8 may bend and/or conform such that the first concave edge portion 25 and the second concave edge portion 30 of the mask 20 at least partially traces the outline or edge of the eye socket. For example, the mask 20 may be pressed or applied such that the front surface 40 or back surface 45 is flush with the human face 810.

According to exemplary embodiments, after applying the mask 20 of the makeup shield 10 to the human face 810, one or more cosmetic products may be applied. Eye makeup, such as, for example, eye shadow may be applied to and/or around an eye 820 with the mask 20 located beneath. Depending on the type of cosmetic used, the shield 10 may cover the face and prevent makeup from being applied to unwanted areas. For example, during application, excess makeup may fall and land on the mask 20 instead of the face. Also, during makeup application, an accidental or inadvertent movement may occur. The shield 10 with the mask 20 covering at least a part of the skin above the eye socket, may prevent unintentional and unwanted contact of the cosmetic product with the face 810.

FIG. 9 shows the shield 10 placed such that the first concave edge portion 25 of the mask 20 is located just below the eye 820 and underneath the lower eyelashes 825. In some embodiments the mask 20 may conform to the natural curvature, shape or contour of the lower eye.

FIG. 10 shows the shield 10 placed such that the first concave edge portion 25 of the mask 20 is located just above the eye 820 and underneath the upper eyelashes 830. In some embodiments, the mask 20 may conform to the natural curvature, shape or contour of the upper eye.

According to exemplary embodiments, after applying or pressing the mask 20 to or against a human face and underneath eyelashes, eye makeup may be applied. For example, one or more eye makeup products, such as for example, mascara, eyeliner, and the like, may be applied while the shield is positioned as in FIG. 9 or 10. During the application, excess makeup, such as mascara, may be caught and held by the mask 20.

FIGS. 8-10 show a shield placed against a human face in the proximate area of the left eye. It should be appreciated the makeup shield 10 may be reversible. For example, the makeup shield may be placed against a human face so that the back surface is placed against the human, such as for example, in the proximate area of the right eye.

Referring to FIGS. 11-12, in exemplary embodiments, a makeup shield 10 may not have any handle attached to the mask 20. For example, in some embodiments, the mask 20 may simply placed against placed against a human face. In exemplary embodiments, any suitable adhesive 70, may be affixed on or with a front surface 40 and/or back surface 45. The adhesive 70 may be used instead of a handle to place the mask 20 against any desired areas of a human face. For example, referring to FIGS. 13-14, the mask 20 without a handle may be placed against a human face in the proximate area of an eye. The adhesive may allow the mask to adhere to a face without the need of a user holding a handle or having to hold the mask 20 against the face. In other words, the adhesive 70 may allow a user to use both hands during the application of makeup.

It will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that changes could be made to the embodiments described above without departing form the broad inventive concept thereof. It will be understood, therefore, that this invention is not limited to the particular embodiments disclosed, but is intended to cover modifications within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.

Claims

1. A makeup shield comprising:

a mask including an edge comprising a first concave edge portion and a second concave edge portion, the mask being flexible so that the first concave edge portion is conformable to at least one of a natural curvature of a human eye and a natural curvature of a first portion of a human orbital bone and the second concave edge portion is conformable to a second portion of a human orbital bone; and
a handle connected to the mask.

2. The shield of claim 1, the mask being flexible so that the first concave edge portion is conformable to the natural curvature of a human eye and the natural curvature of the first portion of the human orbital bone

3. The shield of claim 1, wherein the first concave edge portion comprises a curvature that is different than a curvature of the second concave edge portion.

4. The shield of claim 1, wherein the first concave edge portion is located adjacent to the second concave edge portion.

5. The shield of claim 1, wherein the flexible member comprises a hypoallergenic material.

6. The shield of claim 5, wherein the flexible member comprises silicone.

7. The shield of claim 1, wherein the mask comprises a first surface and a second surface, the second surface facing a direction opposite to the first surface, wherein the first surface corresponds to a first human eye of a human face and the second surface corresponds to a second human eye of the human face.

8. A makeup shield comprising:

a mask including an edge comprising a first concave edge portion and a second concave edge portion, the mask being flexible so that the first concave edge portion is conformable to at least one of a natural curvature of a human eye and a natural curvature of a first portion of a human orbital bone and the second concave edge portion is conformable to a second portion of a human orbital bone.

9. The makeup shield of claim 8, the mask further comprising:

a first surface and a second surface, and
an adhesive at least partially covering at least one surface of the mask.

10. The makeup shield of claim 9, the mask further comprising a removable layer attached to a surface of the mask covered at least partially covered by adhesive.

11. The makeup shield of claim 8, further comprising a handle connected to the mask.

12. A method for applying makeup comprising:

providing a makeup shield, the makeup shield comprising: a flexible mask comprising an edge made up of a first concave edge portion and a second concave edge portion; and a handle connected to the mask;
applying the makeup shield against a human face so that the first concave edge portion of the mask flexes to conform to at least one of a natural curvature of a human eye and a natural curvature of a first portion of a human orbital bone and the second concave edge portion of the mask flexes to conform to a second portion of a human orbital bone;
applying cosmetic makeup to portions of the human face left exposed by the makeup shield.

13. The method for applying makeup of claim 12, wherein the step of applying the makeup shield against a human face further comprises placing the mask so that the first concave edge portion is located closer to the center of the human face than the second concave edge portion.

14. The method for applying makeup of claim 12, wherein the step of applying the makeup shield comprises placing the flexible mask above an eye so that the first concave edge portion is located between the eye lid of the eye and the upper eyelashes of the eye, and the step of applying cosmetic makeup comprises applying cosmetic makeup to the upper eyelashes.

15. The method for applying makeup of claim 12, wherein the step of applying the makeup shield comprises placing the flexible mask below an eye so that the first concave edge portion is located between the eye lid of the eye and the lower eyelashes of the eye, and the step of applying cosmetic makeup comprises applying cosmetic makeup to the lower eyelashes.

16. A method for applying makeup of claim 12, wherein the step of applying the makeup shield comprises placing the flexible mask below an eye so that the first concave edge portion conforms to the natural curvature of the first portion of the orbital bone of the eye and the second concave edge portion conforms to the second portion of the orbital bone of the eye, and the step of applying cosmetic makeup comprises applying cosmetic makeup to at least one of the eyelid, skin area underneath eye.

17. The method for applying makeup of claim 12, wherein the step of applying the makeup shield comprises placing the flexible mask so that a first surface of the mask is placed against the face in the proximity a first human eye.

18. The method for applying makeup of claim 17, further comprising:

removing makeup shield from the human face;
applying the makeup shield against a human face wherein a second surface of the mask is placed against the face in the proximity of a second human eye of the human face so that the mask flexes to conform to at least one of a natural curvature of the second human eye and a natural curvature of a first portion of a second human orbital bone and the second concave edge portion of the mask flexes to conform to a second portion of a second human orbital bone; and
applying cosmetic makeup to portions of the human face left exposed by the makeup shield.
