Adjustable Handgun Support
A novel handgun support includes a vertically adjustable stand and horizontally adjustable shoulder support that are pivotally mounted together with a handgun holder fixedly mounted on the top end. The assistance in holding a handgun from two directions greatly increases the steadiness in aiming a handgun in target shooting.
The present application relates to an adjustable support, and more particularly to an adjustable support for handguns in target shooting so that a handgun can be held firmly and steadily during shooting and aiming.
Note that the points discussed below may reflect the hindsight gained from the disclosed inventions, and are not necessarily admitted to be prior art.
Handgun shooting is difficult to control due to the fact that it is difficult to hold a handgun steady. A number of handgun support designs have been developed for the purpose of assisting a handgun user in holding the handgun. For example, the U.S. Pat. No. 6,016,620 describes a handgun support apparatus that is amounted to the elbow of a handgun user to steady the aim.
Another example is described in WO 2005/119161 A1 PCT patent application publication that describes an extractable shoulder support for a handgun with complicated locking mechanism.
However, most of the prior designs are not sufficient for accurate handgun target shooting. There exists a continuing need for a new and improved handgun support apparatus which is adjustable to a user's condition and assists a user in handgun target shooting.
SUMMARYThe present application discloses a novel adjustable handgun support apparatus that assists a user's arm in holding handgun during aiming from both horizontal and vertical directions.
In one embodiment, an adjustable handgun support includes an adjustable vertical stand support and an adjustable vertical shoulder support which are pivotally mounted together for storage and easy movability.
In one aspect of an embodiment, the handgun support comprises a plurality of sections of support rods that are slidingly assembled together and detachable with threaded nuts. The threaded nut assembles present a “closed” and “open” positions in adjusting the length of an assembly.
In one aspect of an embodiment, the upper portion of a threaded sleeve of the nut matches to a first sized support rod and the lower portion of the threaded sleeve of the nut matched to a second sized support rod, and the two sized support rods are adjustably assembled together with the threaded nut.
In one aspect of an embodiment, one upper support rod that is near to the sitting of a handgun is wrapped with foaming material for increased friction for hand gripping.
The disclosed innovation, in various embodiments, provides adjustability in both horizontal and vertical directions, thus greatly increasing the stability provided to the handgun in target shooting. Pivotally mounted stand support and arm support are assembled with a plurality of nuts threaded to match two different sizes, providing a simple mechanism for both flexibility and steadiness.
The disclosed invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which show important sample embodiments of the invention and which are incorporated in the specification hereof by reference, wherein:
The numerous innovative teachings of the present application will be described with particular reference to presently preferred embodiments (by way of example, and not of limitation). The present application describes several embodiments, and none of the statements below should be taken as limiting the claims generally.
For simplicity and clarity of illustration, the drawing figures illustrate the general manner of construction, and description and details of well-known features and techniques may be omitted to avoid unnecessarily obscuring the invention. Additionally, elements in the drawing figures are not necessarily drawn to scale, some areas or elements may be expanded to help improve understanding of embodiments of the invention.
The terms “first,” “second,” “third,” “fourth,” and the like in the description and the claims, if any, may be used for distinguishing between similar elements and not necessarily for describing a particular sequential or chronological order. It is to be understood that the terms so used are interchangeable. Furthermore, the terms “comprise,” “include,” “have,” and any variations thereof, are intended to cover non-exclusive inclusions, such that a process, method, article, apparatus, or composition that comprises a list of elements is not necessarily limited to those elements, but may include other elements not expressly listed or inherent to such process, method, article, apparatus, or composition.
It is contemplated and intended that the design apply to various designs of handguns and pistols by providing a set of standard fitting handgun holders. For clarity reason, only one type of handgun is shown in the figures. The handgun support may be made of any suitable material, and preferably light metal or hard plastic.

Both vertical stand 101 and horizontal shoulder support 103 are adjustable in length. Stand 101 comprises a plurality of sections of rod assembly slidely mounted together with multiple threaded nuts 109. Each section can be slide out to form a stretched “open” position of stand 101 in adjusting the length. Shoulder support 103 is preferably comprised of two sections connected with threaded nut 109 with the free end mounted with an arm or shoulder handle 107 that is configured to fit the shoulder or upper section of a human torso. On the top end of stand 101 is mounted a handgun holder 105 that is configured to fit and hold the grip panel of a handgun.
