Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention generally relates to head wear and, in particular, to a form fitting head wrap that allows the wearer to accessorize while also accommodating personal items that always are carried when not at home. Keeping outer eyewear on one's head while not in use while engaged in sports and/or other activities can be problematic. String-type eyewear keepers can be unattractive and uncomfortable. Finding places to store such basic items as identification cards, keys, etc. while engaged in vigorous activities can be difficult, especially when one cannot or does not want to carry a handbag, wallet, glass case, etc.

As can be seen, engaging in certain activities can present a challenge with respect to keeping glasses and small personal items out of the way yet handy.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.

Broadly, an embodiment of the present invention generally provides a form fitting head wrap.

The embodiment of a head wrap illustrated in the FIGs may include a fabric external shell or body panel 1, including right and left body panels 1a, 1b; a mesh fabric shell insert or liner panel 2, including right and left liner panels 2a, 2b. A headband which consists of a leather panel 3 which may be any other suitable material; a headband liner which consists of a terry cloth panel 10 which may be any other absorbent material. These two panels are sewn together to form the headband. The headband may include a nylon compartment 14 or any other suitable material. The zipper 4 in conjunction with zipper key 4e may be inserted into headband which is sewn to the nylon compartment 14 then secured with two zipper stops 4a, 4b made from leather and two metal rivets 4c, 4d or any other suitable material. The nylon lined zippered compartment 14 can be incorporated into either side of the headband. The headband may also include right and left leather eyewear holders 5a, 5b, secured by rivets 5c, on the right and left sides, respectively, of the headband; small pieces of cowhide or other material may be cut to support the rivets from the inside of the headband. Two extra long ties 6a, 6b with special ends 6c, 6d may be sewn to the left and right bottom end of the headband to be used as added security of the head wrap and also for style. The head wrap may further include darts 7 that can be found in the main body of head wrap panel 1 and in the liner insert panel 2. An elastic band 8 may include a two-part fabric tube 8a, and fastening tape closure 8b and 8c such as Velcro(R). A tail portion of main body panel 1 and panel 11 may form a concealed compartment 17 secured by a snap 9a, 9b. The panels of the head wrap may be joined with various forms of stitching at the seams 15, including topstitching 12 and arrowhead stitching 13.

The following list of components of one embodiment of the head wrap of the present invention and their dimensions, which are approximate, is provided by way of example and not limitation. Four panel pieces may be cut to form the external body shell 1,1a, and 1b; while tail 1 and 11 form a compartment 17. Three panel pieces may be cut to form the insert liner shell 2, 2a, and 2b. One panel piece of leather 3 or suitable material may be cut to 21″ by 3¼″; one panel piece of terry cloth 10 for liner or suitable absorbent material may be cut to 21″ by 3¼″; sewn together they may form the headband. Two panel pieces of material may measure 16″ by 2⅞″ to form the two extra long ties 6a, 6b. One piece of elastic band 8 may measure 6″ by ⅞″ and may be cut into two 3″ by ⅞″ pieces. Two panel pieces of material may measure 3″ by 2⅞″ to form the tubes 8a that will encase the elastic band 8 at each end. The fastening tape strip 8b and 8c may be cut to 1½″ long to be applied to the ends of the elastic band 8. The zipper 4 may be cut to 5″ by 1″. Two leather pieces may be cut to 1″ by 1⅜″ for the two zipper stops 4a, 4b. Two nylon panels may be cut to 5″ by 3″ for the compartment 14. Two medium weight leather pieces may be cut to 2″ by ¾″ for the eyewear holders 5a, 5b; two ½″ by ½″ cowhide pieces or other suitable material may be cut to support rivets 5c. Any appropriate thread may be used to sew the panel pieces together.

To use the head wrap, a wearer may place the head wrap onto his or her head with the tail 1, 11 above or below the elastic band 8. The wearer may secure the head wrap and may adjust the fit of the head wrap by using the fastening tape closure 8b, 8c. The extra long ties 6a, 6b may be tied in a knot to secure the head wrap during a rigorous activity. The wearer may secure his or her outer eyewear while riding motorbikes, bicycles, or walking by inserting the ear temples of the eyewear in the space between the headband and eyewear holders 5a, 5b when not in use. The wearer may place small items such as a key, ring or money into the nylon lined compartment 14 that may be closed by a zipper 4 in conjunction with a zipper key 4e. Items such as ID or credit cards can be placed in tail compartment 17 and secured by snap 9a, 9b.

The head wrap may provide a form fitting, comfortable head covering that protects the head from the sun, dirt and wind. It may offer absorbent liners, such as the liner shell insert, that serves as a moisture barrier in the hot weather and a heat retainer in cold weather. The nylon lined zippered compartment 14 may be incorporated into the headband on either side. The tail 1, 11 may include a concealed compartment or pocket 17 secured by snap 9a, 9b. The elastic band 8, fastening tape closure 8b and 8c may enable the head wrap to be marketed and worn as a “one size fits most” head wrap. The extra long ties 6a, 6b may allow the wearer to secure his or her hair during a rigorous or windy activity, as well as, just for decoration and style. The head wrap may also be worn under other protective head coverings if so desired.

It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
