DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 7 thereof, a new cocking device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 7, the crossbow cocking device 10 generally comprises a first strap 12 having a first end 14 and a second end 16 wherein the first and second ends 14, 16 define a V-shape. The first strap 12 forms first and second overlapping sections 18, 20. The first and second ends 14, 16 define an aperture 22 extending from a top side 24 to a bottom side 26 of the first strap 12 when the first end 14 is coupled to the second end 16. The aperture 22 is configured for positioning around a wrist 28 of a user.

A first fastener 30 is coupled to the first strap 12. The first fastener 30 is coupled to the first and second overlapping sections 18, 20 wherein a circumference of the aperture 22 is adjustable. The first fastener 30 comprises complementary portions 32, 34 of hook and loop fastener. Each of the complementary portions 32, 34 of hook and loop fastener of the first fastener 30 may be an elongated strip positioned on the bottom side 26 of the first strap 12 proximate a bottom end 36 of each of the first and second ends 14, 16 of the first strap 12. A second fastener 38 is coupled to the first strap 12. The second fastener 38 may be positioned on the top side 24 of the first strap 12 proximate the bottom ends 36. The first fastener 30 and the second fastener 38 couple the first and second ends 14, 16 of the first strap 12. The second fastener 38 may comprise a buckle, snaps, or the like.

A pair of supplemental straps 40 couples the second fastener 38 to the first strap 12. Each of the supplemental straps 40 is coupled to an associated one of the first and second ends 14, 16 of the first strap 12. The supplemental straps 40 are positioned on the top side 24 of the first strap 12 proximate the second fastener 38. A plurality of apertures 42 may be positioned in one of the supplemental straps 40 wherein the second fastener 38 is configured to extend through a selectable one of the apertures 42. A pair of openings 44 may be positioned in the second fastener 38 wherein each of the supplemental straps 40 extends through an associated one of the openings 44 to couple the supplemental strap 40 to the second fastener 38. A supplemental fastener 46 couples the second fastener 38 to the first strap 12. The supplemental fastener 46 comprises complementary portions 48, 50 of hook and loop fastener. Each of the complementary portions 48, 50 of hook and loop fastener of the supplemental fastener 46 may comprise an elongated strip. The complementary portions 48, 50 of hook and loop fastener of the supplemental fastener 46 comprises a strap portion 52 and a fastener portion 54 wherein the strap portion is coupled to the first strap 12 and the fastener portion 54 is coupled to the supplementary strap 40 proximate the second fastener 38.

A second strap 56 is coupled to and extends outwardly from the first strap 12. Each of the first strap 12 and the second strap 56 are preferably made from nylon. The second strap 56 has a first portion 58 spaced from a second portion 60. A ring 62 couples the first portion 58 to the second portion 60 wherein the ring 62 extends through openings 64 in each of the first portion 58 and the second portion 60. The ring 62 is coupled to a first end 66 of the second portion 60. A third fastener 68 is coupled to the second strap 56. The third fastener 68 has a first side 70 opposite a second side 72. The third fastener 68 is arcuate and may comprise a hook 74, The second side 72 of the third fastener 68 is configured for coupling to a string 76 of a crossbow 78. An adjustment fastener 80 may be coupled to the second strap 56. The adjustment fastener 80 has a pair of openings 82 through which the second strap 56 extends wherein the adjustment fastener 80 permits adjustment of a length of the second strap 56. Each of the ring 62, the hook 74, and the adjustment fastener 80 are preferably made from plastic. An arcuate depression 84 may extend downwardly into the third fastener 68. The depression 84 may be positioned on a top side 86 of the third fastener 68 and is configured to provide improved grip on the device 10. An opening 88 is positioned in the first side 70 of the third fastener 68 wherein a second end 90 of the second portion 60 extends through the opening 88 and couples the second portion 60 to the third fastener 68.

The ring 62 has a diameter between approximately 0.5 centimeters and 3.0 centimeters and a thickness between approximately 0.05 centimeters and 0.5 centimeters. The second fastener 38 has a height between approximately 0.5 centimeters and 5.0 centimeters, Each of the supplemental straps 40 has a width between approximately 0.5 centimeters and 3.5 centimeters. The supplemental fastener 46 has a length between 3.5 centimeters and 7.5 centimeters and a width between 0.5 centimeters and 4 centimeters.

The third fastener 68 has a length between approximately 2.0 centimeters and 8.0 centimeters and a width between approximately 0.5 centimeters and 3.0 centimeters. The third fastener 68 preferably has an angle between twenty and forty degrees proximate the second side 70. The adjustment fastener 80 has a width between approximately 0.5 centimeter and 3.0 centimeters. The first and second ends 14, 16 of the first strap 12 have a length between approximately 15.0 centimeters and 24.0 centimeters and a width between approximately 1.0 centimeter and 7.0 centimeters. The first strap 12 has a width between approximately 1.0 centimeter and 7.0 centimeters and a thickness between approximately 0.2 centimeters and 2.0 centimeters. The second strap 56 has a width between approximately 0.5 centimeters and 3.0 centimeters.

In use, as stated above and shown in the Figures, the first strap 12 is positioned around a wrist 28 of a user, The second side 72 of the third fastener is coupled to the string 76 of the crossbow 78. The string 76 is then pulled back toward the user. In this manner, the device 10 aids a user in cocking the crossbow 78 more efficiently without the worry of dropping or misplacing the crossbow 78. The length of the second strap 56 is adjustable via the adjustment fastener 80.

With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
