Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a rest for a gun that enables a user to position their gun on their lap while they are hunting.

2. Description of Related Art

Hunting is an activity enjoyed by many people. Some hunters hunt for food, and are able to provide a stock of meat for their families after just a few hunting trips. The sport hunters may receive notoriety and fame for the type of animal they kill depending on size, type, location and abundance. Many people like to use a rifle or shotgun to shoot their prey, because of the weapon's reliability and portability. Both amateur and professional hunters pride themselves on their accuracy in shooting, because it typically reflects the success of their hunt.

While many people love hunting, they do not love hauling all of the heavy equipment needed including the gun, ammunition, camouflage, rests and the like. During the hunting trip, hunters often have to sit or squat in one position while waiting for their prey. After a while the hunter's legs can become fatigued and exhausted, making it extremely difficult to keep the knees together and stop them from shaking This will later affect their accuracy to shoot, and longevity at location.

It would be beneficial in the art to provide a device that assists a user to remain more comfortable while sitting or squatting in their primary hunting location. It would also be desirable in the art to provide a device that includes a support that allows the user to rest their gun relieving the effort required to hold it.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the prior art, the general purpose of the present invention is to provide a device that rests on a user's legs to support a gun barrel while hunting, configured to include all of the advantages of the prior art, and to overcome the drawbacks inherent therein.

Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a leg supported gun rest that wraps around the user's legs in order relieve the energy needed to hold their legs in a stationary position.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a leg support gun rest that includes a support that swivels upon the rest to position the gun barrel as desired by the user.

To achieve the above objects, in an aspect of the present invention, a leg supported gun rest is described comprising a base, where the base extends across a lap of a user; a pair of rounded ends on the base, where the pair of rounded ends wrap around the user's legs; a support attached to a top of the base; and a U-shaped rest on the support, where the U-shaped rest receives a barrel of a gun. The ends may extend and retract within a central portion of the base to comfortably adjust the width of the base. The support may swivel upon the base to allow the position of the gun barrel to be adjusted.

These together with other aspects of the present invention, along with the various features of novelty that characterize the present invention, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed hereto and form a part of this present invention. For a better understanding of the present invention, its operating advantages, and the specific objects attained by its uses, reference should be made to the accompanying drawings and descriptive matter in which there are illustrated exemplary embodiments of the present invention.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The advantages and features of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following detailed description and claims taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing in which:

FIG. 1 depicts a perspective view of a leg supported gun rest in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The present invention relates to a rest for a gun that enables a user to position their gun on their lap while they are hunting. The invention provides a leg supported gun rest to simultaneously anchor a gun and to supports the user's knees while hunting. The leg supported gun rest includes a base that wraps around the top of the user's legs. With their thighs in the base the user may relax their legs while seated, because the base holds the knees together. From the base extends a support which enables a gun to rest above the user's lap. The leg supported gun rest is simple and practical to use. It helps to not only provide effortless support for the knees, but allows the user to rests their gun while they are waiting in a single position during hunting.

Turning now descriptively to the drawings, referring to FIG. 1, a perspective view of a leg supported gun rest 100 is shown in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. The leg supported gun rest 100 includes a base 102 which extends across a lap of a user. The base 102 includes a pair of rounded ends 104 which extend downward to wrap around the sides of the user's legs. The base 102 may be a thin bar or frame that wraps around the thighs or knees of the user. Alternatively, the base 102 may a wide platform. Accordingly, the base 102 may be made from a lightweight metal or plastic for portability.

Each end 104 inserts into a central portion 112 of the base 102. The ends 104 slide in and out of the central portion 112 to adjust the width of the base 102 as needed by the user. The ends 104 may be adjusted up to 3 or 4 inches on each side. The central portion 112 may range in width between 6-8 inches, preferably 7 inches. The total width of the base 102 may range from 13 inches at its smallest to 20 inches at its widest. The ends 104 include a plurality of holes 105 which receive a pin 107 in the central portion 112. The plurality of holes 105 receives the pin 107 to allow the ends 104 to be securely adjusted within the central portion 112. The pin 107 is lifted to adjust the pair of ends 104. Once the ends 104 reach the optimal position the pin 107 is pressed into one of the plurality of holes 105 to lock the ends 104 in place. The pin 107 may be a peg flip pin or any other type of securing mechanism.

Extending up from the central portion 112 of the base 102 is a support 106. The support 106 may include a U-shaped rest 108 to allow the user to place a barrel of their gun between the upward projections of the U. The U-shaped rest 108 may be position atop a bar 110 which maintains the support 106 in an upright position. The bar 110 may enable the U-shaped rest 108 to swivel as desired by the user. This permits the user to adjust where they rest their gun barrel on their lap.

The leg supported gun rest 100 may be covered with a rust-proof coating since the primary use is outdoors which may include inclement weather. The leg supported gun rest 100 may be painted with a camouflage design or wrapped in a camouflaged cover to match the user's clothing while on the hunt. Options for camouflage may be real tree or mossy oak. Beneath the base 102 may be a foam lining 114 which provides a soft and comfortable feel against the user's thighs and knees. Accordingly, the U-shape rest 108 may be padded to prevent scratching on the gun barrel. During use, the leg supported gun rest 100 allows the user to comfortably rest their gun on their lap while hunting. The rest holds the user's legs together without engaging the muscles so the user can relax while they wait. With the adjustable ends 104 the user is able to change the width of the base 102, thereby providing the optimal leg position for comfort while the user waits to take a shot.

The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The exemplary embodiment was chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the invention and its practical application, to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the invention and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated.
