Method and Apparatus for mounting on a Picatinny Rail System

A mounting system for mounting accessories onto a Picatinny rail system distinguished in that the mounting system comprises of mounting base which lies at or below the level of the rails and a mounting base clamp wherein the base clamp has a hole for a screw to be inserted which secures both the base clamp and the base mount onto the rail by engagement of the inserted screw and the Picatinny rail system.

BACKGROUND

Increasing advancements in technology has created an inherent need for firearm users to require weapons capable of supporting an assortment of mountable accessories. Examples of such accessories are flashlights, slings, scopes, bipods, sights, and grips to name a few. The Picatinny rail system is a standardized mounting platform that adheres to standard military specification.

FIELD OF INVENTION

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus which would allow attachments to be mounted on a standard rail mounting system, such as a Picatinny rail system. More specifically, the mounting apparatus provides a secure attachment between the rail system and the mount while also maximizing the usable space on the rail system. Furthermore, this apparatus will be low profile and level with the rail system.

PRIOR ART

The use of mounting rail systems is very common due to the versatility and customizability of a firearm with mounting rails equipped. There are currently U.S patents that provide multiple methods and apparatus' for mounting accessories onto a firearm rail system. For example, U.S. Pat. No. 8,499,484 which is a mounting assembly that provides a secure engagement between a device and a Picatinny rail system.

The drawback with this configuration, as well as many others, is that once mounted, the mounting assembly is bulky, elevated, and obstructs the use of rails that it lies over. Accordingly, there is a need for a mounting assembly that does not obstruct the use of the rails it lies over, while still remaining low profile, easily mountable and still reliable.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The following descriptions are set forth and have been given numerical designations to enable the reader to understand the use of the present invention. The enclosed drawings are purely descriptive and represents one of several configurations the user might apply the present invention. Even though specific configurations and uses are illustrated, it will be apparent to a user that there are multiple configurations of this invention.

FIG. 1 illustrates the mount base (1), the mount base clamp (2), and the screw (3) as one assembly. This assembly should be considered the apparatus. Therefore FIG. 1 illustrates the apparatus.

FIG. 2 illustrates the mount base (1). The illustration shows the tabs (5), female connection (9) and the screw hole (7). Each aspect of the mount base (1) will be further detailed in this description.

FIG. 3 illustrates the mount base (1) upon attachment to the Picatinny rail (4). As shown, it should be clear that the tabs (5) engage the Picatinny rail (4) securing the mount base (1) in place.

FIG. 4 illustrates the mount base clamp (2) and each aspect of the said base clamp. The base clamp (2) is comprised of tabs (6), a screw hole (8) and male connection (10). The importance of each aspect of the base clamp (2) will be further detailed below.

FIG. 5 illustrates a screw (3) that will be used to completely secure the mount base (1) and the base clamp (2) together as shown in FIG. 1.

FIG. 6 illustrates the apparatus attached to the Picatinny rail (4). The method used to attach the Picatinny rail is as follows; Tab (5) is attached to the Picatinny rail. At this point base clamp (2) is inserted via male connection (10) into mount base (1) at female connection (9).

This insertion will engage base clamp (2) at tabs (6) onto the Picatinny rail (4) and also align screw hole (7) and screw hole (8).

Finally screw (3) is inserted into screw hole (8) and is screwed in until it engages screw hole (7) creating a secure attachment between mount base (1), base clamp (2) and Picatinny rail (4) as shown in FIG. 6.

FIG. 7 is the isometric view that shows that the apparatus does not extend above the Picatinny rail system (4), as well as shows that the screw (3) does not extend over the Picatinny rail (4).

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

The present invention provides an apparatus and method for mounting accessories onto a Picatinny rail system. The apparatus will be attached to the Picatinny rail and will provide the user with a low profile mount that does not obstruct rails it is not attached to.

Claims

1. An apparatus and method for mounting on a Picatinny rail system comprising: A mount base; a mount base clamp; and a screw.

2. The mount base from claim 1 further comprising: tabs that engage the Picatinny rail; female connection slot; and a screw hole.

3. The base clamp from claim 1 further comprising: tabs that engage the Picatinny rail;

male connection slot; and a screw hole.

4. The screw from claim 1 will attach to the said mount base and base clamp and does not obstruct the rail.

5. The apparatus will lie below or at the level of the rails on the Picatinny rail system.
