Cylindrical Smoking Device

In some embodiments, a cylindrical smoking device made from a rectilinear sheet of flexible paper-like material. The sheet is die cut to form a taller portion and a shorter portion. The shorter portion is folded into an accordion shaped member. The longer portion is rolled around the accordion shaped member form in a cylindrical shape where the accordion shaped member is captured within the cylindrical shape. The cylindrical shape is retained by gluing the trailing edge of the taller portion to a location at the mid portion of the taller portion. The recess formed between the top of the cylindrical shape and the top of the accordion portion is capable of retaining a small amount of smoking material.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

This invention relates generally to the field of smoking devices and more specifically to a disposable cylindrical smoking device. Smoking devices of all shapes and forms have been used to hold smoking material for the purpose of inhaling the smoking materials into the lungs of the user.

A cigarette is a common form of smoking device that includes a paper wrapper that is cylindrical in shape and retains smoking material. When cigarettes are burned, the paper around the smoking material is incinerated as the smoking material itself is incinerated until the main portion of the cigarette is reduced to ash. Some types of smoking material require a location at one end of the cylindrical housing for a small amount of smoking material to reside.

Conventional smoking devices involve using a non-disposable device for inserting a small amount of smoking material at one end and then drawing in smoke through the remainder of the cylinder. However, these conventional smoking devices are relatively expensive and needs to be cleaned after each use for it to properly function. patent application Ser. No. 11/788,043 discloses a smoking pipe made from disposable material that include multiple components including a filter portion and a separate rolled end tip where smoking material is placed in the central portion of the cigarette shaped device. However, there is a deficiency in that the device is made of multiple pieces that need to be assembled during production, causing the device to be relatively expensive for use as a disposable item.
Thus, there is a demand for an improved smoking device that allows for the burning of smoking material, without burning the paper around the smoking material, while also being cheap enough for disposal or compost. This device is an important convenience that does not exist on the market do to these manufacturing challenges.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The primary object of the invention is to provide a disposable cylindrical smoking device that allows a user to insert a small amount of smoking material in the front end of the device, light and inhale only the smoke material, and then dispose of the device.

Another object of the invention is to provide a disposable cylindrical smoking device that can be rolled from a single die-cut sheet of a paper material that is coated with a burn resistant coating.

Another object of the invention is to provide a disposable cylindrical smoking device where the paper material is folded in an accordion shape within the cylindrical outer housing, creating a support and recess for the smoking material.

Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following descriptions, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein, by way of illustration and example, an embodiment of the present invention is disclosed.

In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention, there is disclosed a cylindrical smoking device comprising: a rectilinear sheet of flexible paper-like material, said sheet die cut to form a taller portion and a shorter portion, said shorter portion folded into an accordion shaped member, said longer portion rolled around said accordion shaped member to form a cylindrical shape where said accordion shaped member is captured within said cylindrical shape, said cylindrical shape retained by gluing the trailing edge of said taller portion to a location at the mid portion of said taller portion and said recess formed between the top of said cylindrical shape and the top of said accordion portion is capable of retaining a small amount of smoking material.

Further details of aspect, objects, and advantages of some embodiments are described below in the detailed description, drawings, and claims. Both the foregoing general description and the following detailed description are exemplary and explanatory, and are not intended to be limiting as to the scope of the embodiments

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The drawings illustrate the design and utility of embodiments of the present invention, in which similar elements are referred to by common reference numerals. In order to better appreciate the advantages and objects of embodiments of the invention, reference should be made to the accompanying drawings. However, the drawings depict only certain embodiments of the invention, and should not be taken as limiting the scope of the invention.

FIG. 1 is a plan view of the invention in the unfolded condition, as according to some embodiments.

FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the invention in the partially folded condition, as according to some embodiments.

FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the invention in the fully folded condition, as according to some embodiments.

FIG. 4 is a side section view that bisects the invention, as according to some embodiments.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

In the following description, numerous specific details are set forth to provide a more thorough description of the specific examples described herein. It should be apparent, however, to one skilled in the art, that one or more other examples and/or variations of these examples may be practiced without all the specific details given below. In other instances, well known features have not been described in detail so as not to obscure the description of the examples herein. For ease of illustration, the same number labels are used in different diagrams to refer to the same items; however, in alternative examples the items may be different.

FIG. 1 shows a plain view of the invention 100. A flexible rectilinear paper-like sheet includes a tall portion 2 and a short portion 4. The short portion 4 can be folded along dotted lines 16 to form an accordion shape as shown in FIG. 2. The long portion 2 is then wrapped around the accordion portion 4 to form a cylindrical shape as shown in FIG. 3. The depressed area 18 as shown in FIG. 3 allows for inserting a small amount of smoking material 14 as shown in the side section view in FIG. 4. The cylindrical shape is maintained by gluing the far side of long portion 2 to a mid-portion of long portion 2 as shown in FIG. 3.

FIG. 1 shows dimension lines that indicate the preferred size of the overall sheet as well as the die cut and fold lines. The overall length of the rectilinear sheet may be longer or shorter as shown by dimension 20. For example, in one embodiment, the overall length of the rectilinear sheet is 55 mm as shown by dimension 20. It should be appreciated that other embodiments may have longer or shorter rectilinear lengths. The short portion 4 is approximately fifty-two millimeters tall. It should be understood that the depressed portion for holding smoking material can be varied by increasing or decreasing the height and/or diameter of short portion 4. This feature is important when it becomes necessary to install a specific amount of smoking material, such as in the pharmaceutically prescribed dispensing of cannabis or CBD material.

First dotted line 7 indicates the overlapping glue line as shown by dimension line 6. The distance between fold line 22, fold line 24, and fold line 26 may vary in lengths depending on the size of the sheet. The width of the final section 28 at the right end of the rectangle can also have longer or shorter distances between folds for various sized embodiments.

In one embodiment, the paper-like sheet is coated with burn resistant material such as powdered oyster shells which provides the intended heat resistance without being harmful to the user. The entire device is 100% biodegradable or organic in nature.

The above described and illustrated invention provides the user with an inexpensive and disposable smoking device that allows the user to smoke small amounts of smoking material in a convenient manner.

While the invention has been described in connection with a preferred embodiment, it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention to the particular form set forth, but on the contrary, it is intended to cover such alternatives, modifications, and equivalents as may be included within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.

1. In the foregoing specification, the invention has been described with reference to specific embodiments thereof. It will, however, be evident that various modifications and changes may be made thereto without departing from the broader spirit and scope of the invention. The specification and drawings are, accordingly, to be regarded in an illustrative rather than restrictive sense.
