Abstract

A kit including first and second fabric wherein the first fabric sheet has a length in a range of from 40 to 90 inches and a width in a range of from 30 to 80 inches, wherein the first fabric sheet is folded; a second fabric sheet, wherein the second fabric sheet has a length in a range of from 10 to 30 inches and a width in a range of from 10 to 20 inches, wherein the second fabric sheet is folded; a package containing the folded first sheet and the folded second sheet, wherein the package has a package length in a range of from 6 inches to 36 inches and a package width in a range of from 4 inches to 24 inches, and wherein the package is sealed so as to enclose the folded first sheet and the folded second sheet.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

This application is a Section 111(a) application relating to and claiming the benefit of commonly-owned, co-pending U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 63/024,241, filed on May 13, 2020 and entitled “HYGIENIC MATTRESS TESTING KIT,” the contents of which are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to hygienic bedding testing kits and, more particularly, hygienic mattress testing kits and pillow testing kits for consumers and purchasers of same.

SUMMARY OF THE DISCLOSURE

In some embodiments, a kit includes a first fabric sheet of a first fabric, wherein the first fabric includes at least one of polyester or rayon, wherein the first fabric sheet has a first unfolded size including a first length and a first width, wherein the first length is in a range of from 40 inches to 90 inches, and wherein the first width is in a range of from 30 inches to 80 inches, wherein the first fabric sheet is folded so as to have a first folded length that is less than the first length and so as to have a first folded width that is less than the first width; a second fabric sheet of a second fabric, wherein the second fabric includes at least one of polyester or rayon, wherein the second fabric sheet has a second unfolded size including a second length and a second width, wherein the second length is in a range of from 10 inches to 30 inches, and wherein the second width is in a range of from 10 inches to 20 inches, and wherein the second fabric sheet is folded so as to have a second folded length that is less than the second length and so as to have a second folded width that is less than the second width; a package containing the folded first sheet and the folded second sheet, wherein the package has a package size including a package length and a package width, wherein the package length is in a range of from 6 inches to 36 inches, and wherein the package length is greater than or equal to the first folded length and is greater than or equal to the second folded length wherein the package width is in a range of from 4 inches to 24 inches, wherein the package width is greater than or equal to the first folded width and is greater than or equal to the second folded width, and wherein the package is sealed so as to enclose the folded first sheet and the folded second sheet.

In some embodiments, the first fabric and the second fabric are a same fabric. In some embodiments, the same fabric includes polyester and rayon. In some embodiments, the same fabric is a nonwoven fabric. In some embodiments, the same fabric further comprises an antimicrobial additive.

In some embodiments, the first length is 60 inches, the second width is 40 inches, the second length is 20 inches, and the second width is 15 inches.

In some embodiments, the first fabric has a first fabric thickness that is in a range of from 4 mils to 30 mils, and the second fabric has a second fabric thickness that is in a range of from 4 mils to 30 mils.

In some embodiments, the first folded length and the second folded length are a same folded length, and the first folded width and the second folded width are a same folded width.

In some embodiments, the first fabric has a first fabric weight that is in a range of from 0.5 ounces per square yard to 2.5 ounces per square yard, and the second fabric has a second fabric weight that is in a range of from 0.5 ounces per square yard to 2.5 ounces per square yard.

In some embodiments, a method includes providing a nonwoven fabric; cutting the nonwoven fabric so as to produce a first fabric sheet and a second fabric sheet, wherein the first fabric sheet has a first unfolded size including a first length and a first width, wherein the first length is in a range of from 40 inches to 90 inches, and wherein the first width is in a range of from 30 inches to 80 inches, wherein the second fabric sheet has a second unfolded size including a second length and a second width, wherein the second length is in a range of from 10 inches to 30 inches, and wherein the second width is in a range of from 10 inches to 20 inches; providing a package, wherein the package has a package size including a package length and a package width, wherein the package width is in a range of 4 inches to 24 inches, and wherein the package length is in a range of 6 inches and 36 inches; folding the first fabric sheet so as to have a first folded length that is less than the package length and so as to have a first folded width that is less than the package width; folding the second fabric sheet so as to have a second folded length that is less than the package length and so as to have a second folded width that is less than the package width; placing the folded first fabric sheet and the folded second fabric sheet within the package; and sealing the package so as to enclose the folded first fabric sheet and the folded second fabric sheet therein.

In some embodiments, the step of providing the nonwoven fabric comprises producing the nonwoven fabric, and wherein producing the nonwoven fabric comprises steps of: providing fibers; applying a binder to the fibers to produce a nonwoven fabric; heating the nonwoven fabric to drive off excess water; applying a finish bath to the nonwoven fabric, wherein the finish bath includes a binder and an antimicrobial additive; and drying the nonwoven fabric.

In some embodiments, the step of sealing the package comprises hermetically sealing the package.

In some embodiments, the first folded length and the second folded length are a same folded length, and the first folded width and the second folded width are a same folded width.

In some embodiments, the nonwoven fabric includes polyester, rayon, and an antimicrobial additive.

In some embodiments, the nonwoven fabric has a fabric thickness that is in a range of from 4 mils to 30 mils

In some embodiments, the nonwoven fabric has a fabric weight that is in a range of from 0.5 ounces per square yard to 2.5 ounces per square yard,

In some embodiments, a method includes providing a packaged kit including a first folded fabric sheet and a second folded fabric sheet sealed within a package, wherein the first folded fabric sheet comprises a first fabric, and wherein the second folded fabric sheet comprises a second fabric; unsealing the package; removing at least one of the first folded fabric sheet or the second folded fabric sheet from within the package; unfolding the at least one of the first folded fabric sheet or the second folded fabric sheet, wherein the first fabric sheet has a first unfolded size including a first length and a first width, wherein the first length is in a range of from 40 inches to 90 inches, and wherein the first width is in a range of from 30 inches to 80 inches, and wherein the second fabric sheet has a second unfolded size including a second length and a second width, wherein the second length is in a range of from 10 inches to 30 inches, and wherein the second width is in a range of from 10 inches to 20 inches; positioning the at least of the first fabric sheet or the second fabric sheet over a selected at least one of an upper surface of a mattress or an upper surface of a pillow; testing the selected at least one of the upper surface of the mattress or the upper surface of the pillow by laying on the at least one of the first fabric sheet or the second fabric sheet; removing the at least one of the first fabric sheet or the second fabric sheet from the selected at least one of the upper surface of the mattress or the upper surface of the pillow; and disposing the at least one of the first fabric sheet or the second fabric sheet.

In some embodiments, the first fabric and the second fabric are a same fabric. In some embodiments, the same fabric includes polyester and rayon. In some embodiments, the same fabric has a fabric thickness that is in a range of from 4 mils to 30 mils. In some embodiments, the same fabric has a fabric weight that is in a range of from 0.5 ounces per square yard to 2.5 ounces per square yard. In some embodiments, the same fabric includes an antimicrobial coating.

In some embodiments, the step of removing at least one of the first folded fabric sheet or the second folded fabric sheet from within the package comprises removing both the first folded fabric sheet and the second folded fabric sheet from within the package, the step of unfolding the at least one of the first folded fabric sheet or the second folded fabric sheet comprises unfolding both the first folded fabric sheet and the second folded fabric sheet, the step of positioning the at least of the first fabric sheet or the second fabric sheet over a selected at least one of an upper surface of a mattress or an upper surface of a pillow comprises positioning the first fabric sheet over the upper surface of the mattress and positioning the second fabric sheet over the upper surface of the pillow, and the step of testing the selected at least one of the upper surface of the mattress or the upper surface of the pillow by laying on the at least one of the first fabric sheet or the second fabric sheet comprises testing both the upper surface of the mattress and the upper surface of the pillow by laying on both the first fabric sheet and the second fabric sheet.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

Referring to FIGS. 1 through 3, in an embodiment, a hygienic mattress test kit 10 (“the kit 10”) includes a first fabric sheet 12, a second fabric sheet 14, and a package 16 containing the first fabric sheet 12 and the second fabric sheet 14. In an embodiment, the first fabric sheet 12 is adapted (e.g., sized and shaped) to be positioned on and at least partially cover an upper surface 18 of a mattress 20. In an embodiment, the second fabric sheet 14 is adapted (e.g., sized and shaped) to be positioned on and at least partially cover an upper surface 22 of a pillow 24. In an embodiment, the first fabric sheet 12 is an antimicrobial fabric sheet. In an embodiment, the second fabric sheet 14 is an antimicrobial fabric sheet. In an embodiment, the first fabric sheet 12 is disposable. In an embodiment, the second fabric sheet 14 is disposable.

• • Prebonding—applying a water-based, soft acrylic binder to nonwoven fibers. The soft acrylic binder holds and binds the fibers of the fabric.
  • Applying soft heat to the fabric to drive off excess water.
  • Finish Bonding—applying the fabric finish bath comprising water, water-based soft acrylic binder, and the antimicrobial additive. In an embodiment, the finish bath includes a range of 0.1% to 5% antimicrobial additive. In an embodiment, the finish bath includes a range of 0.1% to 4% antimicrobial additive. In an embodiment, the finish bath includes a range of 0.1% to 3% antimicrobial additive. In an embodiment, the finish bath includes a range of 0.1% to 2% antimicrobial additive. In an embodiment, the finish bath includes a range of 0.1% to 1% antimicrobial additive. In an embodiment, the finish bath includes a range of 0.1% to 0.5% antimicrobial additive.
  • Drying the fabric.
  • Cutting the fabric into sized sheets.
  • Folding the sized sheets.
  • Placing the folded sheets within a package.
  • Sealing the package.

In an embodiment, the folded first and second fabric sheets 12, 14 are packaged within the package 16. In an embodiment, the package 16 includes a plastic package. In an embodiment, the folded first and second fabric sheets 12, 14 are self-contained and sealed within the package 16. As used herein, the term “sealed” means hermetically closed off. In an embodiment, the kit 10 includes only one of the first fabric sheet 12 and only one of the second fabric sheet 14.

In an embodiment, the kit 10, and particularly, the first and second fabric sheets 12, 14, are adapted for single, individual use. In an embodiment, the package 16 is unsealed or broken by a user and the first and second fabric sheets 12, 14 are removed therefrom. In an embodiment, the user unfolds the first and second fabric sheets 12, 14 after removal from the package 16 and prior to use. In an embodiment, a user, and preferably the consumer, positions the first fabric sheet 12 on the upper surface 18 of the mattress 20 in a location where the consumer intends to lay on and test the mattress 20. In an embodiment, the consumer positions the second fabric sheet 14 on the upper surface 22 of the pillow 24 in a location where the consumer intends to lay his/her head on the pillow 24. In an embodiment, the kit 10 is adapted for use at bedding and sleep product retail stores, furniture stores, department stores, bedding and sleep product showrooms, bedding and sleep product trade shows, or other locations showcasing bedding and sleep products. In an embodiment, the kit 10 is adapted for use by a single user. In an embodiment, the kit 10 is adapted for use by a single user for a single mattress 20 and/or a single pillow 24. In another embodiment, the kit 10 is adapted for use by a single user for a plurality of the mattresses 20 and/or a plurality of the pillows 24. In an embodiment, the first fabric sheet 12 does not substantially interfere with the structure and function of the mattress 20 and, more particularly, the texture, tactility and feel of the mattress 20 when the consumer lays thereon. In an embodiment, the second fabric sheet 14 does not substantially interfere with the structure and function of the pillow 24 and, more particularly, the texture, tactility and feel of the pillow 24 when the consumer lays his/her head or body thereof. In an embodiment, the first and second fabric sheets 12, 14 are soft, lightweight, and include a strength to avoid tearing and splitting when a consumer tests the mattress 20 and the pillow 24.

In an embodiment, a method comprises the steps of:

• • Providing a kit comprising a self-contained, sealed package including a folded first fabric sheet and a folded second fabric sheet.
  • Providing the kit to a consumer.
  • Opening the self-contained, sealed package by the consumer.
  • Removing the folded first fabric sheet and the folded second fabric sheet from the self-contained, sealed package by the consumer.
  • Unfolding the first fabric sheet and the second fabric sheet by the consumer.
  • Positioning the first fabric sheet on an upper surface of a mattress by the consumer.
  • Positioning the second fabric sheet on an upper surface of a pillow located on the mattress by the consumer.
  • Testing the mattress and the pillow by the consumer by directly laying on the first fabric sheet and the second fabric sheet.
  • Removing the first fabric sheet from the mattress and removing the second fabric sheet from the pillow.
  • Disposing the first and second fabric sheets.

While the above method of use of the kit 10 is described with reference to use of the first fabric sheet 12 and the second fabric sheet 14 in conjunction with one another to test both a mattress and a pillow, a consumer instead may use only the first fabric sheet 12 to test only a mattress, or may use only the second fabric sheet 14 to test only a pillow. Additionally, while the kit 10 may be used with mattresses, pillows and other bedding and sleep products, it may be adapted for use with other products, such as furniture, sofas, couches, chairs, recliners, patio and pool seating, automobile seats, public seating, etc.

The embodiments described herein are merely exemplary and that a person skilled in the art may make many variations and modifications without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. All such variations and modifications are intended to be included within the scope of the invention.

Claims

1. A kit, comprising:

a first fabric sheet of a first fabric, wherein the first fabric includes at least one of polyester or rayon, wherein the first fabric sheet has a first unfolded size including a first length and a first width, wherein the first length is in a range of from 40 inches to 90 inches, and wherein the first width is in a range of from 30 inches to 80 inches, wherein the first fabric sheet is folded so as to have a first folded length that is less than the first length and so as to have a first folded width that is less than the first width;

a second fabric sheet of a second fabric, wherein the second fabric includes at least one of polyester or rayon, wherein the second fabric sheet has a second unfolded size including a second length and a second width, wherein the second length is in a range of from 10 inches to 30 inches, and wherein the second width is in a range of from 10 inches to 20 inches, wherein the second fabric sheet is folded so as to have a second folded length that is less than the second length and so as to have a second folded width that is less than the second width;

a package containing the folded first sheet and the folded second sheet, wherein the package has a package size including a package length and a package width, wherein the package length is in a range of from 6 inches to 36 inches, and wherein the package length is greater than or equal to the first folded length and is greater than or equal to the second folded length wherein the package width is in a range of from 4 inches to 24 inches, wherein the package width is greater than or equal to the first folded width and is greater than or equal to the second folded width, and wherein the package is sealed so as to enclose the folded first sheet and the folded second sheet.

2. The kit of claim 1, wherein the first fabric and the second fabric are a same fabric.

3. The kit of claim 2, wherein the same fabric includes polyester and rayon.

4. The kit of claim 2, wherein the same fabric is a nonwoven fabric.

5. The kit of claim 2, wherein the same fabric further comprises an antimicrobial additive.

6. The kit of claim 1, wherein the first length is 60 inches, wherein the second width is 40 inches, wherein the second length is 20 inches, and wherein the second width is 15 inches.

7. The kit of claim 1,

wherein the first fabric has a first fabric thickness that is in a range of from 4 mils to 30 mils, and

wherein the second fabric has a second fabric thickness that is in a range of from 4 mils to 30 mils.

8. The kit of claim 1, wherein the first folded length and the second folded length are a same folded length, and wherein the first folded width and the second folded width are a same folded width.

9. The kit of claim 1,

wherein the first fabric has a first fabric weight that is in a range of from 0.5 ounces per square yard to 2.5 ounces per square yard, and

wherein the second fabric has a second fabric weight that is in a range of from 0.5 ounces per square yard to 2.5 ounces per square yard.

10. A method, comprising:

providing a nonwoven fabric;

cutting the nonwoven fabric so as to produce a first fabric sheet and a second fabric sheet, wherein the first fabric sheet has a first unfolded size including a first length and a first width, wherein the first length is in a range of from 40 inches to 90 inches, and wherein the first width is in a range of from 30 inches to 80 inches, wherein the second fabric sheet has a second unfolded size including a second length and a second width, wherein the second length is in a range of from 10 inches to 30 inches, and wherein the second width is in a range of from 10 inches to 20 inches; providing a package, wherein the package has a package size including a package length and a package width, wherein the package width is in a range of 4 inches to 24 inches, and wherein the package length is in a range of 6 inches and 36 inches;

folding the first fabric sheet so as to have a first folded length that is less than the package length and so as to have a first folded width that is less than the package width;

folding the second fabric sheet so as to have a second folded length that is less than the package length and so as to have a second folded width that is less than the package width;

placing the folded first fabric sheet and the folded second fabric sheet within the package; and

sealing the package so as to enclose the folded first fabric sheet and the folded second fabric sheet therein.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein the step of providing the nonwoven fabric comprises producing the nonwoven fabric, and wherein producing the nonwoven fabric comprises steps of:

providing fibers;

applying a binder to the fibers to produce a nonwoven fabric;

heating the nonwoven fabric to drive off excess water;

applying a finish bath to the nonwoven fabric, wherein the finish bath includes a binder and an antimicrobial additive; and

drying the nonwoven fabric.

12. The method of claim 10, wherein the step of sealing the package comprises hermetically sealing the package.

13. The method of claim 10, wherein the first folded length and the second folded length are a same folded length, and wherein the first folded width and the second folded width are a same folded width.

14. The method of claim 10, wherein the nonwoven fabric includes polyester, rayon, and an antimicrobial additive.

15. The method of claim 10, wherein the nonwoven fabric has a fabric thickness that is in a range of from 4 mils to 30 mils

16. The method of claim 10, wherein the nonwoven fabric has a fabric weight that is in a range of from 0.5 ounces per square yard to 2.5 ounces per square yard,

17. A method, comprising:

providing a packaged kit including a first folded fabric sheet and a second folded fabric sheet sealed within a package, wherein the first folded fabric sheet comprises a first fabric, and wherein the second folded fabric sheet comprises a second fabric;

unsealing the package;

removing at least one of the first folded fabric sheet or the second folded fabric sheet from within the package;

unfolding the at least one of the first folded fabric sheet or the second folded fabric sheet, wherein the first fabric sheet has a first unfolded size including a first length and a first width, wherein the first length is in a range of from 40 inches to 90 inches, and wherein the first width is in a range of from 30 inches to 80 inches, and wherein the second fabric sheet has a second unfolded size including a second length and a second width, wherein the second length is in a range of from 10 inches to 30 inches, and wherein the second width is in a range of from 10 inches to 20 inches;

positioning the at least of the first fabric sheet or the second fabric sheet over a selected at least one of an upper surface of a mattress or an upper surface of a pillow;

testing the selected at least one of the upper surface of the mattress or the upper surface of the pillow by laying on the at least one of the first fabric sheet or the second fabric sheet;

removing the at least one of the first fabric sheet or the second fabric sheet from the selected at least one of the upper surface of the mattress or the upper surface of the pillow; and

disposing the at least one of the first fabric sheet or the second fabric sheet.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the first fabric and the second fabric are a same fabric.

19. The method of claim 18, wherein the same fabric includes polyester and rayon.

20. The method of claim 18, wherein the same fabric has a fabric thickness that is in a range of from 4 mils to 30 mils.

21. The method of claim 18, wherein the same fabric has a fabric weight that is in a range of from 0.5 ounces per square yard to 2.5 ounces per square yard.

22. The method of claim 18, wherein the same fabric includes an antimicrobial coating.

23. The method of claim 17,

wherein the step of removing at least one of the first folded fabric sheet or the second folded fabric sheet from within the package comprises removing both the first folded fabric sheet and the second folded fabric sheet from within the package,

wherein the step of unfolding the at least one of the first folded fabric sheet or the second folded fabric sheet comprises unfolding both the first folded fabric sheet and the second folded fabric sheet,

wherein the step of positioning the at least of the first fabric sheet or the second fabric sheet over a selected at least one of an upper surface of a mattress or an upper surface of a pillow comprises positioning the first fabric sheet over the upper surface of the mattress and positioning the second fabric sheet over the upper surface of the pillow, and

wherein the step of testing the selected at least one of the upper surface of the mattress or the upper surface of the pillow by laying on the at least one of the first fabric sheet or the second fabric sheet comprises testing both the upper surface of the mattress and the upper surface of the pillow by laying on both the first fabric sheet and the second fabric sheet.
