Retinoyloxy (substituted) methyl butyrates useful for the treatment of cancer and other proliferative diseases

This invention relates to the novel compounds of Formula (I) and pharmaceutical compositions containing same, to methods of treating, preventing or ameliorating cancer and other proliferative diseases in a subject in need of such treatment comprising administering a compound of Formula (I) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts and prodrugs thereof. ##STR1##

Claims

1. A compound which is trans-retinoyloxymethyl butyrate.

2. A pharmaceutical composition useful for the treatment of cancer and other proliferative diseases comprising a therapeutically-effective amount of a compound of claim 1 and a pharmaceutically-effective carrier of diluent.

3. The pharmaceutical composition of claim 2 wherein said disorder is a leukemia.

4. A pharmaceutical composition useful as a differentiating agent or an anti-proliferation agent comprising a therapeutically-effective amount of a compound of claim 1 and a pharmaceutically-effective carrier or diluent.
